LibreCAD is a free Open Source CAD application for Windows, Apple and Linux.

## LibreCAD Reviews
  ### 1. Designing of Floor Plans & Architect Blocks Made Easy with LibreCAD

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Preet C. | UI/UX Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2021

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

The most thing I like about LibreCAD is I can open the AutoCAD DWG file in LibreCAD and that makes my work easy. The second thing I like most is It is completely free to use and it is available for Windows and Linux operating systems. I can save my work into PDF easily which is great output for showing work to clients.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

The performance of the software is a little bit slower than Autocad so sometimes it crashes while doing work and due to that I lose my work without saving which frustrates me sometimes. I can't able to make 3D models works. There are some limitations in making 2D floor plans.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

I highly recommend LibreCAD for those users who are unable to buy costly private software like AutoCAD. This is the best alternative to AutoCAD. This is open-source and completely free-to-use software, so anyone can download it and use it. The major advantage of LibreCAD is, It is supported on Linux operating system as well.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreCAD is excellent software that helps me to create 2D floor plans. It also helps me to edit projects or architect blocks that are downloaded from the web. I can easily edit the DWG file inside LibreCAD. Sometimes it crashes while opening a larger DWG file, but It is the best alternative for the opening file on a system in which Autocad is not installed.

  ### 2. When you need to create 2D technical drawing I always use LibreCAD.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kiril C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2020

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

LibreCAD is open source and free under GPLv2 licence.
2D drawing application solutuon.
Drawings support layers.
Support multiple languages.
Flexible internal plugin system
Interface developed on Qt library witch makes it cross platform solution.
You can run this application on Linux WIndows or OSx operating system.
reads DWG and DXF files formats thanks to (based on a GNU LibreDWG library)
highly customizable appearance (GUI) Thanks to Qt library.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Because it's a community-drive development is slow.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

You can master using LibreCAD in a few hours.
I would definitely recommend this application for a people looking a 2D drawing solutions.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I make drawings for term papers at university

  ### 3. Good for desing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel H. | Programmer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

it's a decent shop for planning 2D models. It offers a variety of drawing and altering devices that permit the digitisation of topographic outlines rapidly, since from their directions of drawings the components of the territory can be caught rapidly and with a degree of accuracy that is altogether great. The layers can be acquired in a few augmentations, enabling the planner to have the item work from various projects. It is anything but difficult to learn and is exhibited in an agreeable arrangement for new clients. It enables me to produce jpg and png picture groups. The best part it can create .pdf configuration yield for logos and can be easily imparted to others without giving altering rights.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Vectors needs improvement as in when the need is to grow enormous Number of vectors, it gets bit gradually.

Likewise, 3D models plan capacities are absent.

The measure of devices are restricted and certain variants of programming can be temperamental on occasion.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For clients who don't need costly structure virtual products, it's a gift. Exchange off is, it is amazingly constrained, and the way that you can't utilize the most well-known drawing record DWG is a major drawback for me

  ### 4. An opensource alternative but not extremely intuitive to use

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonella M. | Antonella Mangrovia, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

Based on the QCAD software libraries, LibreCAD is another CAD for 2D drawing released under the GPL license. Most of the menus and commands in LibreCAD are very similar to those of AutoCAD, making it a particularly easy-to-use program for all those users already used to using it. LibreCAD allows you to import only files in the DXF format, however, to export files, it allows you to use numerous other formats.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

It's not easy to use because you need to know where to find the commands.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

Not the best opensource CAD

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was looking for a free alternative to AutoCad, but I couldn't work on it well.

  ### 5. A tool for start using CAD system

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eunice S. | Adminstration Professional, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

It is free, nice interphase, quite simple to use, you have the menu of option on the left, the workspace in the middle and the layer options on the rigt, and down you have the commands tools, you can use every tool quickly and the software runs smooth.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

It is too simple, you can only work in 2D you cannot render, and if you compare this sofware with a similar this one has a very short set of tools for editing and the layout process is very annoying and complex.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

You can use LibreCad if you are a novice user of CAD system because it is pretty simple and friendly, but if you want to improve your skills and explode more content in this kind of software better look for another one.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use LibreCAD to develop our new office setting the spaces and places with this tools, we set a draft and later apply some details over it, the results was very simple but very useful, later we have to use another software to develop some topics, especially the modelling.

  ### 6. LibreCAD is a great Design creation tool at NO COST

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rohit N. | Assistant Vice President, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

it's a good shop for designing 2D models. It offers an array of drawing and editing tools that allow the digitisation of topographic charts quickly, since from their commands of drawings the elements of the terrain can be captured quickly and with a level of precision that is significantly good. The layers can be obtained in several extensions, allowing the designer to have the product work from different programs. It is easy to learn and is presented in a friendly format for new users. It allows me to generate jpg and png image formats. The best part it can generate .pdf format output for logos and can be effortlessly shared with others without giving editing rights.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Vectors needs improvement as in when the need is to develop large Number of vectors, it gets bit slowly.
Also, 3D models design capabilities are missing.
The amount of tools are limited and certain versions of software can be unstable at times.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

This software only helps me to do basic designs, I cannot do more than that.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For users who don't want expensive design softwares, it's a blessing. Trade off is, it is extremely limited, and the fact that you can't use the most common drawing file DWG is a big downside for me.

  ### 7. LiberCAD review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ananya J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

This software is fully loaded with a lots of tools to draw. This software is so easy to use, add text at any place and simply save it in the PDF format. LiberCAD is a great option for those people who can't afford to pay for a private software as it already have all the features of a private software too.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Software becomes a bit frustrating when you have to print your drawings because it never as precisely and accurately prints your drawing as you've made it. Except this one this software works great.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreCAD is really a very good software for drawing but the one can do only 2D drawings here not 3D so I switched to another software having also compatibility with 3D drawing.

  ### 8. Great open source alternative to AutoCAD

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

Well it's free to begin with and runs on Linux or Wintel machines. It's similar to autocad and photoshop. And because it's based on Qt library look and feel is familiar to those who have used KDE desktop.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Not being commercially supported like AutoCAD or Photoshop, there are rough edges when it comes to UI but the functionality is OK enough for FREE product.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

Even if AutoCAD is the main tool for folks, I think this is at least worth checking out the application on Linux and checking out their github to see activity and support level of it. Or just use it for the fun of it.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it to draw simple floor plans and blueprints alike.

  ### 9. A good option to design in a free software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Avanish R. | Intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

The big advantage is that you do not have to pay any money to use this software. It is freely available. This software offers the same amount of features that any other software provide with simple interface. You can draw, make measures, add text and put details on the design. You can also download this design in PDF format.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Performance of this software is not that much bad. It is a good but still there are some issues like version.
if you have not updated or not using latest version than some of the feature is not properly work.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Overall, it is freely available. so anyone who want to design can download and use it.

  ### 10. The best experience ever

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

I prefer using this app for geometric construction. This program is lightweight and fast. It reads DWG files, and can export to SVG.Being free open source project, I didn’t expect business grade quality on stuff like this such as the instant support or the integrated help, but the program itself does work very well for what I needed to do.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

I was not so impressed by the most important feature Called object info. Anything after the 1.0.1 Update does not work well with the 0SX any need to upgrade to at least mountain lion 10.8. It is very annoying for those who use the old program

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

Make if more interesting

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the great benefits I found a used and this was it makes a great replacement for auto sketch and DXF files sometimes it crashes but the good news is there’s an auto back up a terribly wax integrated help perhaps is it a license problem the only documentation is in complete, out of date, or very boring without the formatting of long text sometimes it can be hard to fine after getting started and letting some of the shortcuts and learned behaviors, the origins, the relative absolute coordinates, you can produce respectful sketches

  ### 11. librecad, the best for drawings.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raphael O. | administrative assistant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

Librecad offers great starter 2D and 3D design software for the amazing price of free!

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Would be awesome if had more templates or add-ons to add more functionality or capability, but just remember is free and offers a great selection of options for your design

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Is pretty simple to visualize blue prints and edit them example water lines or electric

  ### 14. The great experience that LibreCAD offers me

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marc P. | Especialista en formación, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2018

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

One of the best advantages is that it is open source, which makes it very receptive to improvements and updates, and its users do not have to pay a cent to use all its tools because it is free. This is something that distinguishes it from its major competitors. Its interface is very intuitive, although also a bit unstable, usually without problems or unexpected closures when using it. It also stands out for its ease of installation, being very easy and allowing the installer to be downloaded from various sites like GitHub. Another advantage it offers is that it has a great plugin system to activate and deactivate features. The option that has been most useful to me is the auto-save of designs. Finally, I liked the great compatibility it offers by being able to save in different extensions like .DXF.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

One of the disadvantages of the current version of LibreCAD is the lack of direct documentation (initially, QCAD documentation was included but it was removed). Another disadvantage is the absence of a Model/Paper space, which makes development difficult. The lack of text that adapts to different scales is also notable, and different types of text and dimensions cannot be managed. It is an application with a very outdated interface, which makes it somewhat difficult to use. Lastly, it is a program that offers very basic and simple tools compared to other applications in the same sector.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

LibreCAD is available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and in some of the main GNU/Linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, Suse, among others), so you won't have to worry about the operating system your computer uses. The program is translated into 20 languages, including Spanish (although partially), so you won't have any comprehension issues when using the interface of this application. It is a completely free program, so you won't need to spend any money. Download it!!!

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Thanks to LibreCAD, I have been able to design plans without needing to hire anyone and without anyone having to help me, because I have been able to do it with a great amount of detail due to the simple interface it offers. It has also been very useful for me when making vector designs.

  ### 15. Librecad is very helpful

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

Librecad is free to hack and copy and it does not have any language barriers

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

learning to use it and what it was most beneficial to use for Sometimes

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is beneficial for education to aid students in their learning

  ### 16. A useful tool to get started with CAD software

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2018

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

The biggest advantage of LibreCAD is the fact that it is an open-source program and, therefore, free, making it ideal as a first approach to CAD software and to assess whether to make a larger investment to acquire a more powerful tool. It has basic functionalities, and its interface, although different from other similar reference programs, is particularly simple and intuitive. It has a large community of users online, so it is easy to find tutorials and help online.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

It is a software that, compared to other similar reference ones, offers only its most basic functionalities, so it is not suitable for advanced or professional use. The support and help from the program itself are quite limited, so if you need help, you have to resort to tutorials or assistance from other users online. Visually, it differs quite a bit from other similar programs, so it is initially difficult to get used to.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

It turns out to be an ideal software for getting started in CAD, although not so much for professional use.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CAD drawing, vector design, architectural design, layout of plans

  ### 17. Great simplistic design software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

The software is very intuitive for designing 2-d models and even can be used for 3-d footprint designs. Overall sleek layout and lots of customizable features

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Sometimes layering can be hard to keep track of and some conversions between files don't work.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developing compatible designs in a digital format

  ### 18. Open source CAD tool!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2018

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

LibreCAD is a cross-platform tool based on parametric 3D modeling functions for CAD, directly aimed at mechanical engineering and product design, but it also fits a wide range of uses in engineering, such as architecture or other engineering specialties.

LibreCAD is a cross-platform 2D modeling tool. Created using the source code of another free design tool called QCad Community Edition, its main advantages are being quite lightweight and having an interface quite similar to that of AutoCAD.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

LibreCAD only deals with 2D drawing, it is compatible with DXF files, which it imports very well, and CXF, but it does not support DWG, a mandatory format for those of us who use these platforms.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

For small businesses that do not wish to tackle projects with too much ambition, free licenses can be a perfect alternative to consider.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Planning of mass plans, directions of circulation, organization of linears according to the structuring of sports commerce.

  ### 19. Review of libreCad

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

Open source and simple ui makes it easy to draw in and add details to the drawings.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Pro version is extremely expensive and not likely for small companies to use it.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Architectural firm design outputs. Helped my cousin with this.

  ### 20. A free option for designing

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maryalba G. | Consultor de gestión de proyectos, Food & Beverages, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2018

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

LibreCAD is one of the best options if you want to design a plan or simply put into practice your basic or professional architecture knowledge, all for free and with a quite simplified interface. As with major design programs, with this software you can draw, dimension, modify, consult, search, measure, and of course print, considering each of the parameters of your design in detail. In the drawing section, LibreCAD offers its greatest qualities, given that the interface is so simple that anyone with basic knowledge can create a design in a few minutes. In this sense, the menu unfolds very simply, with shapes and figures on the left side and layers on the right side, as you create and organize them. This is a great help, as it is not necessary to write commands or search through multiple menus for drawing options.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

The program can be truly unstable, in many cases it closes suddenly, and the biggest issues in my case have happened with the print settings, it became practically impossible for me to configure a plan on a letter-sized sheet, since it could never be adjusted to scale. All these are issues that need to be resolved, as they considerably affect the work done with this software.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

This is a tool that can be used by anyone to create a design, it has a simple and intuitive interface that is understandable for any user, regardless of age or experience with this type of program, but they should keep in mind that it is a bit unstable in its operation.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreCAD helped us design a warehouse at a time when we didn't have the resources to hire an external designer, let alone pay for private software. It was actually quite simple to create the design through this program because the drawing section is quite straightforward, and the details are quite noticeable visually.

  ### 21. Good product, does what I need

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2019

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

I like that this product fulfills my needs without being too complex

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

This is a solid product, I don’t have any strong dislikes

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

Solidworks

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple concept designs for early design review

  ### 22. Almost everything you can do with AutoCAD...with open source!!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cristina M. | Líder de Seguridad y PRL tienda, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2018

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

LibreCAD has a simple user interface based on Qt4 libraries. It features a very comprehensive dynamic tool panel, which hides many more functions than can be seen at first glance. We find an application limited to 2D design but with the basics we need.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

The most important problem we face is that it cannot open the DWG files.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Circulation plans in case of emergency, fire, PPE, and SOCO

  ### 23. A bare-bone dxf-based CAD

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francesco S. | Titolare, progettista, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2017

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

It's a simple, portable and free 2D CAD. It reads and writes dxf, an universal format, good to exchange geometric data, and fundamental informations like text and dimensions, but not highly elaborate drawings. It also exports PDFs. SVGs, and bitmaps. The most advanced users could like the possibility to customize it, hack it and copy it, since it is Open Source. The interface is highly customizable.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

The interface is a bit slow and simple, and . Being complete isn't clearly the ambition of this application. Printing dos cale could a

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

Fast, free, portable. Useful in combination with some iPad drawing software.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a simple and portable tool, that fits in a USB key and could help to solve some problem on the working site, or in preparing drawing for cutter machines while other more complete applications are busy doing heavy stuff.

  ### 24. LibreCAD for Web Design

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher M. | Chief Operating Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2017

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

While using LibreCAD I feel like I have so many more options for creating basic shapes and even more complex shapes in comparison to FreeCAD. There is a multitude of features all accessible and organized by dropdown menus.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

The bottom toolbar features grid readouts, hints, and measurements but the text is quite small out of the box and needs to be adjusted.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

If you're going to use LibreCAD for graphic design, it's much different than Photoshop or Illustrator. There's a much steeper learning curve but with the large amount of forums online there is no shortage of learning information.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sometimes there are graphics that clients want that can't be made easily in 2D programs like Inkscape or GIMP, 3D shapes and the ability to bevel, fillet, merge, and mirror makes tasks like this easy.

  ### 25. Very Good

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2018

**What do you like best about LibreCAD?**

It is very easy to use. I like it so much.

**What do you dislike about LibreCAD?**

Sometimes it is slowly, but I don't know if it is the app or network connection.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreCAD:**

Use it for drawing 2D pieces.

**What problems is LibreCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to draw some engineering designs in 2D.
