What I appreciate most about the latest Lacerte (2024) features is the increased convenience and the time they save. One improvement I’ve noticed is the addition of background updates. Now, the software automatically checks for and downloads updates, and all I have to do is close Lacerte to apply them. This means I no longer have to search for patches manually. While I appreciate Lacerte’s capabilities, there are definitely some drawbacks. There is an extensive amount of work performed for this program to run and it shows! The forms fill out correctly, the support line is very helpful, there are a lot of tools and customizable options to help you increase speed and accuracy. The menus are easily navigated, there is a lot of statistical information that can help you and your firm, and the software is integrated with a lot of other softwares such as SmartVault and Doc-U sign which is a huge plus. One of my favorite functions is the "search" bar which is Lacertes own search engine that helps you not only find the rules and regs for tax law, but also how to input it into their software so it populates correctly. There is very very few times multi-state returns get messed up codings with depreciation when proforma'd over between tax years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I switched from a very well known software used by many firms, which had some complexity to it and overrides did not always mean what it said. Lacerte has been so wonderful to use, I found it was easy to integrate clients and the online customer support community helped me easily fix diagnostic errors quicker than placing a call. The amount of features are also on par with the other software available, from trial balance import, to smart re-flow for better results, the K-1 import feature, and the tax analysis for savings is the best. For tax preparation service, I find its just amazing. My only downside is the tracking client feature, I am able to input when data is received to easy know what stage my clients are at, however my status reports are not sortable by date, but I do hope to see that fixed for the future. My favorite part of Intuit Lacerte tax is the opportunity to customize display columns between each client type. For example, because we have multiple tax preparers in this office, it makes it very simple to organize our displays to have the staff preparer next to the client's name. Along with that we use a few other status codes that help us keep track of where we are at with each client with date stamps automatically cueing in. Another thing I truly enjoy is the filter option. Something I struggle with at times is the fact that there is no automatic software updates. When we were in peak tax seasons, there would be times where I would have all of my necessary windows open, just to be told I need to update my Lacerte software and reboot my computer.
