I like how much can be done using the software. It allows you to handle financials, registrar matters, housing, financial aid, it has alumni portals, job postings and employer access. The list could go on. To put it in its simplest form I like Sonis' versatility. It allows us as a small institution to be able to focus on just one software and have everything integrated in a way that easily streamlines processes. The only downside really that I have with Sonis is regarding its aesthetics. It's not the most visually appealing software and to me, this can be a slight hindrance to user engagement. SONIS is a modern, web-based SIS that makes it very easy for digital natives to pick up and use right out of the box. Working with Jenzabar as a true thought partner was one of the most rewarding contracting experiences I have had. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The financial aid platform can be extremely robust, but it did require a separate license and wasn't an expected add-on. Some of the documentation on how to do the configurations wasn't as clear as it could have been. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

When I worked at the Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center, we looked at SONIS for Student Registration and Data on Students for future classes, and I liked the online aspect of it. It would have allowed us to centralize a registration system for our courses, which were not traditional "college" classes, but more like continuing education and adult learning classes in technology. SonisWeb provides a strong, on-line student records database. It has many features that allow us to maintain contact with potential students and monitor their application process. There are so many features to this product but I have not seen good documentation about how the designers anticipated the software would be used. Sometimes we develop a process only to discover that to get the full benefit of the software we should have done certain steps in a different order. As a small technical college we have similar needs to larger two or four year colleges but also have some very unique needs. At the time we made the switch to SonisWeb we found many features of the product that did not work well for us.
