The performance is just tremendous, it can open almost all the formats whichever the major sizes in micro seconds, I mostly used opening a 32bit HDRI image from that and that too with lots of easy panning and zooming feature. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** Nothing but the editing is very basic, and it is only available in windows. else everything great. **What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problem is to open any files on one tool, and as a Texturing Artist, I need to open many images in the form textures with highest detailed format. Before using IrfanView, I have to use some selective tools for accessing particular formats and that was so furstrating and time consuming to keep it in the memory. It was one of the first included photo viewing software i used back in Win XP-times. It is a very, very basic viewing platform, though it can be extended with plugins or personalized changes; though I almost every time only used the very basic version of IrfanView. It's a very small, good and comprehensive image-viewing software, though, for editing, scaling or optimizing images, IrfanView wouldn't be the software for you. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** IrfanView hasn't changed at all, so it's "Skills" are very limited. It was from the beginning and still is a very, very basic photo-viewing software and nothing beyond that. So for most modern exercises, I think IrfanView is the wrong solution. **What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you?** An easy-to-use software for viewing and opening images (in almost any format, both old and modern image formats) that has been and will always be free and extendible. ### 5. I was introduced to it by a friend and never looked back. A great tool, especially for pictures. Compared to competitors, the program has more options than any other. i like that when wanting to add effects to an image, one can select the effect desired or choose the product pallet and have all of them at your disposal. One can also see the result of the effect on a second display. The program can even open files that no other program can. The AUTO ADJUST COLOR is a fantastic feature. When I think I have a quality image, this feature improves it instantly. I run all my pictures thru this routine. The CAPTURE SCREENSHOT feature is excellent because the image it captures meets the quality standards I would expect. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** The only pitfall I find is when working with the app, and one rolls the wheel on the mouse thinking it will zoom, it does not. It goes to the following picture or displays a message that one has reached the end. **What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you?** I benefit by using Irfanview because it has so many options available in one spot. The fact that it is still kept up over the years. Been using it since the XP days and it's on the top of my list after every reinstall / OS upgrade. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** I had to go looking for plugins at times that did not work, probably would have worked with some troubleshooting, but it's still got that 90's way of doing such things, to make it a very 2023 kinda software, it needs to auto download required dependencies IMO. **What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you?** Easy quick batch coversions were a life saver, also quick edits (with limitaions), resizing options on the fly and easy shortcuts will always make this my go to program :) ### 7. It fits in that well. The depth of plugin support and customization makes worrying about file types a non-issue. Simple actions like browsing images in a directory are seamless. IrfanView has just enough image editing tools to make opening another program unnecessary. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** In my opinion, a few of the default settings are not the best. Changing these settings does add some time to the initial setup process. I have not yet explored the options for configuring an INI file to make setup easier. **What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you?** I needed an image file viewer with better editing tools than what was available by default in Windows. This makes simple for memory the few standard functions that we need to edit a photo or graphic. Also in Irfanview the function of embedding another pic into the existing pic is absolutely userfriendly and simple. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** There should be a simple tool in Irfan to mark a corner or two corners of the rectangular work-space - and to single-click the fade-contrast levels accordingly. That means - if the pic is too shadowy on the right side - as in many face-pics - I should be able to click the right side and CLICK to raise the contrast strong on the right margin and lesser and lesser contrast raised till the median line.. there by fetching the dark side of the face on reasonable par with the intentionally bright side of the face. Not to completely equalize but to fade-equalize the brightening through wave-contrast adjustments. But this is not a very big issue as it might be needed once in ten thousand pics to be edited **What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am a teacher. I create Power Point Presentations. All the basic editing needed for enhancing and managing photographs, including enbedding pic in pic as well as resizing and creating appending pics side by side or vertically to make one pic - all are easy to manage under Irfanview. ### 29. Most of the initial options are fine, but if you use a dual monitor setup, you may want to have it just capture the active monitor so that the resulting image isn’t so big and unwieldy. Take note of the hot key in the top right of the capture dialog box (Ctrl+F11). That’s the key combination that you have to hit to get Irfanview to capture your screen. By the way, when you have option #2 below selected (Capture area), and you use the Hot key, Irfanview will capture your entire desktop. There is almost nothing it won't open, and year after year, the updates and plug-ins have only improved the software. Irfanview is also a great piece of software for batch processing or renaming of images, resizing/cropping, rotating, and adjusting image colors. Also while not extensive, the effects included are very useful for manipulating pictures. It also doesn't hurt that it is freeware and has been well updated and supported for over a decade. This type of longevity from an app, without becoming bloatware is rare and appreciated. It does what it does extremely well, using very few resources (generally) and hasn't changed from its core functionality. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** While Irfanview is primarily an image viewer, I do (at times) which it had more image manipulation capabilities. Also, it's thumbnail gallery view is a little resource-intensive, and its plug-ins for non-image media could be improved. I do wish it had more effects, and/or the effects included had more nuanced settings. Irfanview is my go-to app. It is also excellent at resizing small, low-quality images up to larger sizes while preserving as much quality as can be expected. Irfanview also allows me to side-step all of the (usually inferior) in-house image viewer apps my OS might want me to use. I've used this program for decades, it's my go-to image editor if I can use it. It is considerate about associating file extensions and gives you full control over what to associate with the program so it plays nice with other image editors if you want to use something more powerful for certain types of files. It's also easy to update or change the file associations inside the program in properties and settings. It has a GUI batch image processor built in that is easy to use and reasonably powerful with wildcards and rename pattern naming. **What do you dislike about IrfanView?** One of IrfanViews strength may be a weakness for some - it only manipulates images - it can't create them. When I create "programmer art" I need to use another program. So it's not a general art program. Irfanviews other weakness is it doesn't deal with pngs with transparency well, so I use other software for those. **What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use it to resize images, change the image bit depth, crop images, sharpen the image and convert from one image format to another. The program is small so it loads fast and works well to do a quick change on one or two files but with the batch processor scales well to changing hundreds or thousands of images. It has a number of image utility functions where you can convert a series of images to a larger one, take screen shots, convert an image to grayscale, sepia, do limited color switching and negative the image values to name a few I use a lot, but there are a lot more and there are plug-ins as well. ### 35.
