A good tool is one where you can forget about it after it is working. Hevo lets users see a small snippet of the data it is transferring in the sample events, I like the idea of having more visibility into the data transfer (what is being transferred) and would like this idea to be better flushed out. Can I pause the pipeline and then run a single record one at a time and view the record contents? This would help with debugging. **What do you dislike about Hevo Data?** Once the mysql bin log goes out of sync it is very hard to fix data discrepancies between hevo and snowflake. This is game breaking for me and I'd like Hevo to at least be eventually consistent. Right now if the bin log goes down for any reason there is no easy remediation. Running a historical load duplicates data on snowflake and for large dbs historical loads are not feasible. One fix is to allow Hevo to query the latest row id from the destination database and then run a historical load from the source db starting from that point. Hevo can let the user write custom query that runs on the destination and returns a single value that is the most recent row id. Then hevo can use this value to determine where to start re-syncing data. This would allow Hevo to seamlessly recover from cases where the source or destination go out of sync and maintain eventual consistency. Hevo can save the query and use it to automatically recover from any desync. This would be a great feature for me. I'd also like the ability have more control over how data is queried. Right now hevo finds data using a unique key or timestamp. I'd like to write custom sql that selects specifically what records hevo will load. For certain datasets I've been writing custom pipelines that do the above instead of using Hevo and I'd rather Hevo just support these features. **What problems is Hevo Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** Copying data from mysql to snowflake seamlessly. Also, the support team of Hevo is available 24*7 for help and we get a response from them within 5 minutes. 4. And they have cheaper rates as compared to other services like DMS, which will help companies who are switching to data engineering. 5. If you are ingesting your data from a database, you need to create a single pipeline to ingest tables the data of all the schemas, which is the least favourable; otherwise, you need to create a different pipeline for each schema, increasing the number of connections to your database. 2. Not enough control over frequency of data pulls, and experienced some 100% CPU pinning. Hevo's team responds promptly and has a ton of quick support options. They are constantly trying to develop and improve their product. **What do you dislike about Hevo Data?** there is a ton of bugs and features still in development. I was consistently on tech support for random glitches that slowed my work down tremendously. It was very easy to erase tons of work without any version control to get that work back. Their APIs are so convoluted to use, that it makes replication better to do manually. Additionally, the transformations functioned weird where If I tried to delete a column, it would remove the data but not the column. **What problems is Hevo Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** ETL Data Ingestion with manual mapping. Great UI. Nearly alone in allowing incremental Postgres extractions based on a timestamp column rather than WAL logs. Everything just worked, as advertised. **What do you dislike about Hevo Data?** Would like even lower price points for small-data users. We only use about 1/8th of our allowed rows per month, and while HEVO still has the lowest prices of the major vendors for our use case, it could probably be a lot lower. **What problems is Hevo Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used to use the free Matillion Data Loader product. It was limited in some important ways, but free is a pretty compelling price and it allowed us to paper over the shortcomings with more frequent loads. When the Matillion product switched to paid plans only, we went shopping for the best current product/deal for our use case: syncing several database tables from our operational apps to our Snowflake account. HEVO now fills that role admirably with zero maintenance needs. ### 25. The auto-mapping feature makes setting up a SQL database sync relatively quick. They have a lot of different connectors. Their price is more competitive than other products. **What do you dislike about Hevo Data?** We have bought an annual contract for 300 million rows per month, the problem is, if you don't use your 300 million rows per month, it does not carry over to the next month, and databases never sync the exact same amount of rows every month, so you either paying for rows you never sync, or run short and then have to top up by buying more rows, this billing strategy needs to change ASAP. The metadata date rows they add to tables are in Unix timestamp format (__HEVO__INGESTED_AT, __HEVO__LOADED_AT), which is relatively easy to work out, they should just add a proper date time data type to these metadata rows. For all of our SQL databases, we had 1 table with about 34 million rows, but had a composite primary key of 2 columns, they could not sync these tables faster then 1 million rows per day, so it basically took over a month to sync these tables into our Snowflake data warehouse, and even after opening a support ticket, they could not increase the speed of these indivudual tabels sync to get the historical sync completed quicker. **What problems is Hevo Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** We put all our production database data into snowflake for reporting and data analytics, and data science strategies to be done on the data. It's essentially Fivetran with more features and at a fraction of the price. **What do you dislike about Hevo Data?** There are 2 things I dislike: firstly, the destination settings are a bit janky and require you to set up a new database destination every time you want to send data to a different schema. Secondly, the events-based pricing (rather than rows loaded) is annoying and sometimes leads you to quickly use up your quota on connectors you don't really care about. For instance, Facebook and Google Ads involve regular row updates, meaning you have to either set them to very infrequent load schedules (e.g. 24hrs) or move them across to another provider (as in our case). It's very easy to get started with a new pipeline and to re-run data after initially loading it. Hevo gracefully recovers from errors and re-runs automatically when problems are resolved. Being able to easily sample events from a given source and re-run those to test pipelines is a nice feature. Hevo models and workflows are a very simple (and freely offered) implementation of DAGs that allow SQL pipelines to be built... this greatly improved the value we got from Hevo once we started using them. **What do you dislike about Hevo Data?** I wish there was an easier way to manage and re-create pipelines which store the schema mappings. As a result, it is preferable to move configurations into the transformations file, which works fine but I will advise that you do this yourselves so that you're more able to re-create your pipelines as needed. I believe that sometimes the errors Hevo provides specify the transformed object rather than pre-transformation object. This makes it difficult to debug errors in transformations at times. The PostgreSQL destination is somewhat slow with Hevo... it would be great if they used the LOAD interface in PostgreSQL (perhaps with necessary restrictions/limitations) prevent this being a bottle neck. Only being limited to Python2 in the transformations is not ideal. Having access to Python3 or other environments could be powerful as well. Hevo models are great (see above), but there are certainly limitations with these such as Hevo not being able to manage any changing schemas. **What problems is Hevo Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** Hevo helps us move data from multiple source systems into our DW, to then transform that data within the DW and keep the tables consumed by BI up to date and clean. ### 43.
