gvSIG Reviews & Product Details

I believe that gvSIG has advanced a lot compared to when I first used it, around the year 2008. Currently, it provides a complete suite, not only offering the Desktop version for advanced analysis, but also having its online version (cloud data) and mobile version (very good for data collection in the field). It is an open-source program that is also easy to install, and it can be used on various operating systems without problems. It is a very good GIS option. Its graphical interface is less intuitive compared to other GIS software, especially for beginner users. Particularly, I find that the options for cartographic output design are limited, which is why it is not the program I frequently use for this purpose. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Mostly, I liked the 3d Visualization tools. The output of the 3d scenes are great than any other opensource GIS desktop software that I have ever used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It may be the User Interface look. It could be a little more attractive and interactive. Options of selecting symbology and dealing with the labelling properties could be improved.

Easy to install and use. It works on any operating system (Windows, Linux or Mac). There is a version for phones with andriod.

Access to online digital cartography to perform data maintenance (update, modify, delete and add). The standard format (shp) is used by all the GIS programs, which allows the integration of the data generated with other platforms.

The options for changing the layout of fields in the tables are somewhat limited

You can not do the digital processing of the images.

It does not contain a lot of symbology for the creation of thematic maps.

What I like least about this software is the part of the toponymy or labeling of the vector information, because it often does not fit the scale of presentation.
