**Reviewed by:** Raghuvaran K. | Project Manager - E-commerce Reliability Engineering, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

Alert policy creation is pretty simple and easy to use. Creating new metric is also flexible and easy to use. log viewer, logs-based metrics, exports and log ingestion are great to use, Alert policy condition criteria list could have been better to use. In some scenarios we feel the criteria list is not helping much to meet our expectations. I'm able to detect issues in real time based on the alert policy that we setup and dashboards helps a lot to spot where the exact issue is like downstream system errors / high CPU / memory leaks, etc.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

Alert policy condition criteria list could have been better to use. In some scenarios we feel the criteria list is not helping much to meet our expectations.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

Google provides excellent service and support to their customers and i highly recommend to user GCP and Google's other monitoring systems.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm able to detect issues in real time based on the alert policy that we setup and dashboards helps a lot to spot where the exact issue is like downstream system errors / high CPU / memory leaks, etc. Alert policy creation is pretty simple and easy to use. ### 23. Google Stackdriver is a great tool to invest learning in order to monitoring your projects.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian O. | Python Developer Intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

What I like most about Google Stackdriver is the customizable dashboards you can create where it can compare different usages of different projects in a centralize enviroment.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

What I don't like about Stackdriver is the lack of support it has. What I mean by that is since it is fairly new you're not going to find the answers to problems you run into on forums. I think some of Stackdriver is still in beta so there isn't a real community of users that you can go to for answers and the only real source of help is the documentation.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problems that Stackdriver is helping me with is notifying me when issue arise with client projects so that I can fix them before anyone calls in to complain.

  ### 24. Detailed Logger

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arvind Y. | Senior Associate, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

When we started working on the stackdriver it was initially bit difficult as not much of the information is available however by the time we found this tool as much easier to check for the logs. One more good thing about the stackdriver is the history it keeps. Once we have a query setup in it, it becomes very easy for it to operate.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

There is not much information available about the filtering and queries criteria. It should have more handy filters to be applied. Observed one more this is like sometime it crashes or doesn't show the proper records and we have to restart and login back in to check the records.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

this is very handy and easy to track tool.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As mentioned above it is very handy for tracking the errors and logs for the any payment we submitted.

  ### 25. Very easy to use, yet powerful with deep metrics

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jackreece E. | Wolfram Ambassador, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

I found it very easy to use and setup. There are all sorts of deep and powerful metrics giving you great power when it comes to managing your resources. The dashboard is also well designed enabling you to rapidly deploy charts and the default sizing of the charts are great.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

I wish it were more deeply integrated into the GCloud ecosystem, more like a default. I think that signing in over and over again is kinda boring. Another issue I discovered was that there are lags in the charts. If things were more realtime it could be better. I would also prefer tighter integration so that it is available by default without any resigning.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

It is a great way to view all kinds of metrics about your cloud implementation.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helped me while I was studying GCloud with Qwiklabs. A great way to monitor resource usage and manage cloud investments. The biggest issue when using the cloud is resource management, Despite the power of the cloud if you are running on a tiny budget it is so easy to run out. But with good metrics software like StackDriver you are able to view metrics on literally everything going on in your system enabling you to make the proper allocation of resources and see exactly where you need to optimize with respect to your IT budget.

  ### 26. Pleasing but could be better in terms of features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

The Ui is easy to follow and navigate through. It is multi cloud, but I have not used it.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

health check of VM's could be more real time
There is no api to create stackdriver monitoring workspace
direct export of metrics to gcs could be provided as an option.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had to provide system health metrics reporting for our clients for SLA requirements. We used to make api calls to timeseries api , store it in a gcs bucket and then export to bigquery.

  ### 27. Have been using SD for 3 years now. Its sometimes lag in data loading and sometime is good.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

The data loading problem, had to open in in-cognito mode very often.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

Its a good tool. Lags a bit but will be better with updation in controller.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us in monitoring, alerting and dash-boarding.
Its PagerDuty integration helps us in our on-call rotation and other alert integration works best like Slack.

  ### 28. Great tool to get alerts on the instances

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nihit M. | Operations Analyst, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

Quick to setup and can be easily applied across the project as well as an Individual instance as an when required.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

Well there should be an option to copy alerts across projects. I couldn't find that option. Maybe its there but I couldn't find it.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

Try it and you will love it.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has helped me keep my services up and running close to 99% and keeping my customers happy :)

  ### 29. Is good,

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonio G. | Technical Solutions Representative, Infrastructure, GCP, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

You can have all kind of metrics, graphs, notifications, dashboards, etc. Easy configuration. Better than other Monitoring system out there.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

It's good, but you can experience many issues, and the metrics could have a delay and also be approximate, very approximated, but not 100% exactly

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can have a control of my resources acorss all my projects.

  ### 30. Very good solution for monitoring and logging

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

Log aggregation might be better, there might be easier way to aggregate and analyze logs.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

Just implement it - it is very easy and have nice integration with other google cloud products

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are monitoring our application deployed to GKE. Benefits are integration, simplicity and flexibility.

  ### 31. Good for aggregating logs, easy to use if already on GCP, bad for metrics

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew W. | Software Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

Easy to collect logs from all Google Cloud services you use. Logs are kept in an archive for a very long time (if you can pay for it).

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

Searching through gathered logs is a bit slow. Metrics are not well supported. There is a limit to how often you can send a particular metric to Google, no matter how many processes you have running that would need to send the metric. So, you must create your own metric collection infrastructure so that you can buffer them and send the aggregate metrics periodically.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

Useful for aggregating and searching logs, but less useful for metrics. Other products like Datadog have better support for being able to easily send metrics from each process. With Stackdriver metrics, you need to aggregate them yourself because you can only send one metric every 5 seconds or so. If you have two microservice instances, that means sending the metrics to a dedicated microservice just to collect them and aggregate them so that between your entire system, the metric is only sent to GCP every 5 seconds or so.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Knowing what's going on in each stage of our big data pipeline. Logs from different microservices are aggregated and we can search through them. It supports structured logging, so we can attach tags to the log messages like the Kubernetes pod or cluster it's running in, to more easily filter the messages to what we want to see.

  ### 32. simple to use and easy to configure for application logging.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

Easy configuration to push logs from containerized applications, structured logging, easy and simple query structure to retrieve the logs.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

Uptime checks can be made better performant, its takes considerably longer time to actually start checking after u define them.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are mainly using Stackdriver for pushing logs of our apis, so far its been very efficient and we troubleshooting time has considerably gone down by using logging and monitoring.

  ### 33. Google Stackdriver

Local variables and the call stack at a specific location in the source code can be captured as a snapshot, which applies to all running instances of the application. Snapshots can be shared with other team members via a URL. It collects application latency data and displays it almost in real-time on the console. It supports default metrics such as CPU utilization, disk I/O, memory usage, network traffic, and uptime.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

It is necessary to install an agent on each VM to monitor specific workload metrics. Developers integrating their applications with Stackdriver need to install the agent for the supported language. After installing the agent, it is necessary to install specific language plugins and modules.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

I would recommend the service based on the stackdriver monitoring, which is one of the key features of the service. Clients can create dashboards to track various metrics related to the virtual machines and the services deployed with them.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The service can be used to investigate the latency affecting the application's performance. We can collect and store logs of workloads deployed both on the Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services.

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

The ability to attach multiple projects to a single workspace

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

Limits on number of projects which can be linked with one workspace.
Why can't it collect metrics which prometheus is providing, why we need third party products

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single Pane for 2000 projects

  ### 40. Stackdriver experience (a student and intern POV)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohamed Y. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Google Cloud Observability?**

It's easy to use and enable, the provided metrics are more than enough in most of the cases, and it allows reporting new metrics if needed. It has a good interface and provides a nearly perfect alarming system. It is considered very cheap compared to the provided features.

**What do you dislike about Google Cloud Observability?**

The provided API is not that intuitive, I needed to dig deep to know how to use and report custom metrics.
It was painful at the beginning but afterwards, it became easy.

**Recommendations to others considering Google Cloud Observability:**

If you want a strong cloud monitoring service with reliable notification and alarm system and good interface, then Stackdriver is the answer.

**What problems is Google Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Right now, I am using some instances for machine learning and doing some exhausting training on them, so I wanted stackdriver to keep an eye for me and report any weird behaviour. Also, I used stackdriver while interning at Google, to do some load-test monitoring.
