It is necessary to have this as a tool in the toolbox. I have used every version from 1.81 to 5.5. I skipped a few versions and returned with 7.6. But in all the changes the move to version 8 is by far the best. The ability to share the work with my investigators has never been easier. I have provided FTK reports before, but allowing the investigator to mark items for further review or to eleminate items that do not fit the bill is a total game changer. I really love that I can pull data from a cell phone, an exchange server and a laptop, and drop them into the same case and see time lines, data from emails next to text messages, and saved documents on a timeline can help locate a suspect in realtime. **What do you dislike about FTK Forensic Toolkit?** I really wish that there was an FTK tool to pull data from a cellular phone, having to rely on a third party software add a layer of complexivity I wish was not there. **What problems is FTK Forensic Toolkit solving and how is that benefiting you?** integration of several disparate processes in to a single cohesive investigation. ### 13. This has forced me to find my own solutions. Sometimes depending on the size of the image, these things take time. **Recommendations to others considering FTK Forensic Toolkit:** While it is acceptable to have your database on the same machine as your GUI and your processing engines, our experience has been that if you can, storing them on a separate Probox improved performance markedly. For training, see if you can buy a year long pass. FTK is database-driven. As you collect data from a hard drive, the tool puts it into a back-end database and indexes it. Index searches are very fast. If index searching is not for you in a particular circumstance, the live search lets you search for items using search patterns, hex or text.
