## About EXASOL
Exasol is the world’s most powerful Analytics Engine, purpose-built to handle the most demanding data workloads at an unmatched price / performance ratio. **In-memory architecture** Want to process 3 billion rows in 3 seconds, not 3 hours? Exasol manages memory cache automatically, only bringing what's needed into the database for dramatically faster access times. **Automatic query tuning** Enjoy optimized performance while minimizing data administration overhead. Exasol uses intelligent, proprietary algorithms to self-tune queries on the fly -- adding and removing indices automatically – so you can bring true self-service BI to your organization. **User defined functions (UDF)** When you need more than a SQL statement, UDF scripts allow you to program your own analysis. Take your unique machine learning and data ingest scripts written in Python, R, and Lua, and run them in our database engine. Through UDF scripts, you'll get a highly flexible interface for nearly every requirement, allowing you to bring in data quickly from wherever it lives. In addition to being the fastest, Exasol also leads in the TPC price-performance metrics, meaning everyone in your organization can take advantage of unrivaled in-memory speed at a low price. And, unlike our competitors, Exasol allows you to choose the deployment destination. Deploy in the cloud, on-premises, or hybrid to meet your organization's unique needs and preferred vendors.

## EXASOL Reviews
 ### 1. Fast, Powerful Analytical Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2026

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

AI Integration: The AI Lab and UDF (User Defined Functions) let you run Python, R, or Java scripts directly within the database, so you can execute machine learning models right where the data lives.

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

Smaller Ecosystem/Community: Compared to giants like Snowflake or Databricks, the community is smaller. This can mean fewer third-party integrations and a smaller pool of pre-built "connectors" for niche SaaS tools.

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It tackles the tension between data democratisation and security. With their new MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, we can allow AI agents and non-technical users to query the database in natural language without granting direct SQL access. That creates a read-only safety layer that helps prevent accidental data deletion, while still giving the business the real-time insights it needs.

 ### 2. Light-Speed Performance and Superior Support

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exasol allows me to run a best-of-breed in my Data Lakehouse architecture and avoid vendor lock-in, by accessing/caching Apache Iceberg tables in my data lake.
It is more cost effective that common competitor clould databases/platforms.

Exasol solves the problem of slow, inefficient data analytics by providing an ultra-fast in-memory database designed for big data workloads eliminating bottlenecks in real-time analytics: Use it for Accelerating certain BI workloads. Even in existing DWH landscapes, you can offload (copy) performance-critical Tables/Data Marts into Exasol, giving you an immediate performance boost without refactoring

The benefits are clear: businesses gain instant access to actionable insights, reducing decision-making cycles from hours to seconds. Scalability ensures performance remains consistent as data grows, while cost efficiency outperforms proprietary alternatives like Oracle. For industries reliant on data-driven strategies (e.g., finance, telecom), Exasol’s speed and flexibility translate directly into competitive advantages, better resource allocation, and faster innovation.

 ### 15. A high-performance database for Analytics. Would definitely recommend it.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ricardo G. | Digital Analytics Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2021

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

My first experience with Exasol was revealing: when migrating our data warehouse we saw many reports running in 1/10 of the time.
This extraordinary performance allowed to, over time, squeeze much more value from the database, while keeping low maintenance and development costs.
For my Analytics department, migrating to Exasol was the single most important step that we took to provide a better service to business, assure quick development cycles and incur in minimal admin effort.

 ### 16. Exasol Review from a non-profit analytics manager

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William G. | Analytics Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2021

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

EXASOL is an incredibly powerful database - its performance mean that I never have to worry about computational efficiency when designing analytics pipelines and can focus on building in complex logic that will allow us to make sure our tool will serve the needs of our field staff.
The EXASOL team has proven to be excellent - both in terms of their willingness to support me queries and their technical knowledge.

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

It is actually to come up with a list of grievances I have with EXASOL - using the database has been an incredible smooth experience from the start.

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

EXASOL is the key database technology that sits at the core of our analytics infrastructure. It is the repository for the data collected by our field staff and surgeons, and serves as the data source for all the dashboards built on top of it.
The flexibility and power of the database has allowed us to get more tools out to the field, especially in resource constrained environments where internet signals might be very weak. EXASOL's power has allowed us to reduce one point of failure in the entire system, meaning that we can collect more data about patients, ensure surgeons get paid on time, and that our internal team can always do the crucial data audits and review needed to ensure our programs are delivering a real impact.

 ### 17. Best choice for on-premise, getting better in the cloud

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vitaly M. | Senior Data Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2021

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

+ Amazing performance in general;
+ Cost-to-performance ratio is very competitive, you'll need much less hardware;
+ Efficient indexed JOINs, probably best in class;
+ Flexible UDF scripts, can be implemented in any programming language and run in parallel;

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

- Lack of native support for composite data types;
- Lack of native partial backup (per-table, per-schema), must use EXPORT instead;
- Detection of data lineage is a bit difficult, unless you implement it yourself externally;
- Cloud capabilities are not fully utilised (yet), but it's not a problem for "on-premise";

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Self-service analytics, ad-hoc queries, financial reporting, data-driven internal products (e.g. A/B testing, forecasting), machine learning.

 ### 22. Great performance and easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian U. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2020

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

Great foundation. Basic SQL operations (joining, grouping, sorting) are greatly implemented and scale to many billions of rows. you'll build plenty of great things on top of it.

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

Loaders and connectivity options may well be better. Those tools are very flexible internally, but you have got to understand the way to use them properly. And documentation is simply too generic sometimes, lacking implementation details. we are able to decompile it and peek inside to require advantage of hidden stuff, but most of the individuals can't do this.

**Recommendations to others considering EXASOL:**

If you opt for bare-metal hardware, buy a smaller number of most performant servers. it'll be much easier to scale your cluster later. Also, please confirm you have got a minimum of 10Gb private network and the maximum amount RAM as possible. It really helps if you have got 90%+ buffer hit rate, so most of the SELECTED queries never touch HDD / SDD.

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

UDF framework allows to run any custom code inside Exasol, so you will potentially connect with anything within the most native way. This in a way has helped improve our business process agility.

 ### 23. A flexible tool for processing data

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taoreed O. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2020

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

Exasol is a very good tool for processing large amount of data, it also allows miutiple users to work on data without compromising the query performance. Exasol also allows integration with other programming languages like python and Java

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

Exasol does not really have a drawback except that it can be a little expensive for companies just starting out.

**Recommendations to others considering EXASOL:**

Exasol is a good tool to use irrespective of the company's size.

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Exasol multiuser interface, me and my colleagues have been able to analyze data simultaneously with ease.

 ### 24. Know only to the PoC level

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lee H. | Senior Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2020

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

There is an open source version to allow you to play around with and learn the technology. Of course there is a commercial version as well. It also has on premise and cloud options.

The claim to be extremely fast with large data sets. I wasn't able to test this. I can say that their sql was standard and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

Nothing stood out as a negative. They don't seem to have too large of a presence in the US market

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Looking to improve query performance over Hadoop/hive

 ### 25. Super fast reporting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter K. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2019

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

We definitely like Exasol's performance best. We use Exasol as the backend for our reporting and BI tools and as such it has proved to be incredibly fast and scalable even for tables > 1TB in size. And not only is querying fast but data imports are fast too. We regularly see import speeds of 100MB/s. This allows us to keep it updated in real-time with our operational databases.

A close second is the low maintenance. Queries rarely have to be tuned and, other than periodic upgrades, we've found the system itself to be almost maintenance free.

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

It's hard to find anything in particular to dislike. Whenever I run into a problem their customer service is always prompt and open about discussing and acting on it if it makes sense. They are also transparent about their roadmap so you can see when issues will be fixed and addressed.

**Recommendations to others considering EXASOL:**

Try out the free community edition. It will give a good indication of how fast and easy to use it is. Note that the paid version is faster and much more scalable than the free version.

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our primary use of Exasol is to provide fast, accurate, and timely financial reports for our clients. Our clients are very happy with this service.

 ### 26. Extremely fast data warehouse solution used with Tableau

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2019

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

Indexes are maintained automatically lowering the overhead for management. Queries are extremely fast compared to our previous SQL Server data warehouse solutions. We throw very complex queries at it every day using tables with hundreds of millions of records and it runs like a champ. Exasol scales out by parallel processing queries across multiple server nodes.

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

You have to learn Lua as it is the back-end scripting language. I'm hoping at some point Exasol will support Python for scripting. Python (among other languages) is already supported for user defined functions.

**Recommendations to others considering EXASOL:**

Spin up a proof of concept using the free community edition in a virtual environment.

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a replacement for Tableau extracts. Now Tableau has live connections to Exasol meaning that we can execute on a true incremental load strategy and centrally manage our business logic. Row and column security is now easy to deploy to Tableau using database level views. There is now no limit to the size of our data sources we expose through Tableau.

 ### 27. Good to use product for data warehousing purpose

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2019

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

Easy to use, most of SQL queries work. Very fast and easy to maintain

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

Documentation is not so good. Even IDE could be made better

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data warehouse and Database

 ### 28. Fast, reliable and amazing customer suppor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francesco M. | Owner and BI/Data Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2016

**What do you like best about EXASOL?**

Oracle like syntax, fast performances with hundreds of terabyte of data, easy to maintain and configure, but what is even more impressing if the attention reserved to their customers. Their training are quite useful to be quickly up to speed.

**What do you dislike about EXASOL?**

Scripting is a bit cumbersome at beginning (requires LUA), but we were able to handle that.

**Recommendations to others considering EXASOL:**

Contact them, explain your problem, they have the solution for you

**What problems is EXASOL solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our EXASOL database is our company warehouse, it's our to go place for all our daily analysis.
