A kind of ESG pyramid scheme business model **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2025 **What do you like best about EcoVadis?** Not much I can say I like. I am not an ESG specialist, but as a small business owner I can't say that Ecovadis provides any value to us and instead is a burden. It is easy to use - I suppose this is a positive point. **What do you dislike about EcoVadis?** We were forced to use Ecovadis and pay for it by one of our key enterprise customers. Ecovadis relies on this model of forcing businesses to comply with bureaucracy and pay for it to be able to maintain customers. So, their business performance is not really based on the value they provide but on how many key accounts they can get to grow the network effect. I suppose they migh provide value to large enterprises who need to measure and comply with ESG policies, specifically in the EU space, but for small businesses it just doesn't offer any value. It is also no flexible to allow small businesses to score well. We are a small business, with a remote working arrangement, so our carbin footprint is tiny. However if you can't subit reports about your office electrical consumption and other enterprise metrics your score is reduced. The system is also basically a documentation check. There are no physical audits or verification processes as far as we are concerned, so it is safe to assume the data they collect and measure is unreliable. **What problems is EcoVadis solving and how is that benefiting you?** No benefits. We have to pay for a subscription just to comply with one of our customers. **Official Response from Clara Carriere:** > Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback for us. Irrespective of company size, all businesses have inherent sustainability risks and the EcoVadis Rating provides your company with a trusted assessment of your company sustainability performance which can be communicated with your trading partners while providing your company with an opportunity to show leadership within your industry, alignment with global best practices and the implementation of sustainability management systems that go beyond compliance. The benefits of subscribing to the EcoVadis platform include: Access to your EcoVadis platform that includes your scorecard and tools for collaboration and improvement, such as the Corrective Action Plan feature. Additional useful resources including educational videos, e-learning, glossary and more. Ability to share your company's performance for all your customer requests. The EcoVadis assessment questionnaires are adapted to each company depending on their industry, location, and size, including extra-small companies with up to 25 employees. On average, different small companies are asked ten questions, based on the industry they are involved in. We understand that smaller companies may not have a sustainability management system that is as developed as larger companies and may have fewer formalized documents. For this reason, we allow more flexibility and welcome non-formalized supporting documents for extra-small companies. The EcoVadis sustainability rating methodology is based on seven founding principles discussed in detail in our EcoVadis Ratings Methodology Overview and Principles. Our highly trained, expert analysts evaluates the responses using the EcoVadis scoring methodology, which is based on international standards such as UNGC, ILO, ISO 26000, etc. In addition, EcoVadis employs strict and well-developed scoring guidelines applied to each assessment by expert analysts. Regular training and internal quality controls are performed to ensure the coherence of scoring among analysts. Pretty useless **Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2025 **What do you like best about EcoVadis?** the UX, it's quite lean, also, they save your information instatanously and you don't lose them. **What do you dislike about EcoVadis?** It's been an investment from me (in money and in time). I spent a lot time to fill carefully in all the information and once it's done I didn't see any outcome. You lose time, everything is done to make you pay more and more, but you don't have any insights of what you should do to improve. Completely useless. **What problems is EcoVadis solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ecovadis didn't bring any help. Warning- Not a customer friendly company **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Matt C. | HSE Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2024 **What do you like best about EcoVadis?** There was NOTHING that we liked about Ecovadis. **What do you dislike about EcoVadis?** Forms were not tailored to our company; Overcharged for service; when the company that required the service was sold and we no longer needed Ecovadis; we sent them a message on the day of our renewal and was told that we were required to cancel BEFORE renewal date. They threatened to send our invoice to collections if we did not pay the annual subscription for a service that we did not request or want. They are just in it for the money. Not to help customers. **What problems is EcoVadis solving and how is that benefiting you?** THERE IS NO BENEFIT IN USING ECOVADIS! **Official Response from Clara Carriere:** > We are sorry to hear of your experience with our service. EcoVadis uses the United Nations industry classification system ISIC (International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities) to classify the productive economic activities of our rated companies. The questionnaire you received is tailored to the industry (ISIC) to which your company belongs. We would like to re-address that none of the topics on the questionnaire are mandatory, meaning you can just choose the topics relevant to your operations, and not declaring something for every question will not necessarily prevent you from reaching a certain score level. The questionaires did not make any sense for solo entepreneurs like me and it felt like I got forced in something that did not make any sense. **What do you dislike about EcoVadis?** They automatically renewed a subscription I did not consent to. The accountmanager did know I only needed it to send my last invoice to a customer (their new procurement policy) and still they put me on automatic renewal. **What problems is EcoVadis solving and how is that benefiting you?** It did not add any value for a small business like me. Got tricked into it by procurement of a customer in order to get paid for work I already didz ### 5. Some questions are not applicable for SME-companies. Very hard to reach help-desk. **What problems is EcoVadis solving and how is that benefiting you?** It gives you a reality check of how you're company is doing regarding the corporate social responsability. It makes you want to improve your score and make you more respobsible business. However we improved a lot, provided more documents and our score for second year is lower. Makes no sense at all. ### 6. To make sustainability comparable **What do you dislike about EcoVadis?** It's an intransparent closed system of evaluation. Ecovadis auditors actually alter information that's being provided, without notification. For example number of employees. Bumping the account to a more expensive plan. It's a commercially oriented company that is exploited a good cause. **Recommendations to others considering EcoVadis:** Stay away. **What problems is EcoVadis solving and how is that benefiting you?** None whatsoever. ### 7.
