The biggest value for us is having all our health and safety records in one place across several companies. We manage field crews in multiple entities, many of them unionized. Before EcoOnline, training records, incident reports and safety documents were spread across spreadsheets, email and paper binders. Now I can pull up an employee's certifications or an incident history in a minute or two instead of chasing site supervisors.
The mobile incident and near-miss reporting has made the most practical difference. Supervisors log incidents from the job site the same day, with photos, so HR gets the details while they're fresh. That makes WSIB reporting and follow-up much faster and more accurate.
Training and certification tracking is another feature I rely on regularly. Automatic expiry reminders for tickets like Working at Heights and WHMIS mean we catch renewals before an employee is sent to a site uncertified. That was a real compliance risk for us before.
An unexpected benefit has been audit preparation. When auditors or clients ask for safety documentation, I can export reports directly instead of assembling them by hand, which saves hours each time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The initial setup took more time than we expected. Configuring forms, workflows and permissions for several companies with different sites and crews needed a lot of back-and-forth before it matched how we actually work. Smaller teams without a dedicated admin may find this demanding.
Reporting is useful, but customizing it has limits. Standard reports cover most needs. When I need a report cut a specific way, for example by company, union local and site together, I sometimes end up exporting to Excel and building it myself.
There's no easy link to our HR and payroll systems. Employee records have to be kept up to date separately, so new hires and terminations don't flow through automatically. With a large field workforce and regular turnover, that means extra manual work and a risk of records getting out of sync.
Some parts of the interface feel less intuitive than others. Field supervisors who don't use it daily sometimes need a refresher on where things are, which leads to incomplete submissions.
