What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm pleased to share our positive experience with Echo Labs this summer. We were offered the opportunity to particiate with Echo Labs in their Accessibility First Grant Program, which provided us with 500 hours of transcription services and the unique opportunity to offer feedback aimed at enhancing the platform for current and future users.
As an academic library, we handle a wide range of highly technical content and encounter various accents in our recorded material. Additionally, as our content is often recorded from live events such as presentations and talks, with background noise, audience chatter, and extreme differences in the recording quality. This all poses a significant challenge to our students and staff who work on transcription, even with the AI features available in tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, which still requires manual correction.
But the transcription platform from Echo Labs exceeded our expectations!
The accuracy of the transcriptions was exceptional, with a careful ear toward the complications of techinical jargon, audio quality, and accents. The turnaround time was impressive, which allowed us to direct student and staff attention to other high-priority projects. It wasn't unusual for us to spend multiple hours on a single video--Echo Labs was able to provide us with a transcript (in multiple document formats) and a video with burned-in captions in record time by comparison.
Our feedback regarding the platform was quickly integrated into their updates and pushed live--sometimes within mere hours! The team was highly receptive to any questions, concerns, or suggestions we had about the platform, privacy expectations of content submitted, and more.
The difference between Echo Labs and other platforms providing similar services is their level of accuracy. They recognized that in a post-Covid world, much more academic content than before is being provided as audio-visual material and that there was a gap in services that could handle making material accessible for use in an educational or classroom setting. Their focus on the academic sphere sets them above other transcription services, and has helped us to make our content more accessible and our processes more efficient.
I would highly recommend Echo Labs to anyone looking to have high-quality transcription of audio-visual material that contains technical or highly field-specific content. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
