**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sakthivel S. | Full Stack Web Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

I used couchbase to store and retrieve inventory related data for an e-commerce website.

Couchbase provides a robust SDK for multi platform integration. All we did was to build a wrapper layer around it and integrated with our inventory API. Ease of use and solid documentation played a vital part in the success of the integration.

I also liked their dashboard where a lot of server health related metrics were updated in realtime. I also liked the ability to search and view the stored documents from the dashboard.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

Documents search feature can be improved like adding advanced search options which can improve the entire search user experience

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used couchbase to improve the overall user experience in the e-commerce website by maintaining inventory data. Couchbase was much faster and was able to handle a lot of load than a traditional relational SQL database which was a huge benefit.

  ### 8. Couchbase Server has a user friendly UI and all it needs is a basic knowledge of SQL query.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

I loved Couchbase because :
1. We can query it using SQL queries.
2. Monitoring is quite easy as we have Dashboard which and Statistics section which gives a good knowledge of the CPU utilisation.
3. Query monitor is another great tool which tells which query is faking most of the CPU time.Hence developer can use this tool to know which query is problematic and focus on fixing the same.
4. Index creation is easy and simple. We have Indexes , where we can view all the created indexes. We can also use Statistics section to know which Index is getting used and which is not.
5. The Bucket section provides all necessary information like which bucket has how many documents.
6. Statistics/Server section is very helpful as it can gives us the insight of how many ops/sec a bucket is receiving.
7. Now we have Query Advisor , which gives advise us on what index is more appropriate for a query. This saves a lot of CPU memory.
8. Document insertion , deletion and updation is easy as we have UI for it.
9. Query execution section provides all information for monitoring like query execution time, indexes used , document affected etc.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

1. We cannot create more than 10 buckets.
2. If there is no Index created on a bucket, the queries on bucket would return empty response rather than user friendly messages describing root cause.
3. Buckets having huge documents takes time to query and usually times out.

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

Use Couchbase Server when you are looking for a NoSql database that can easily integrate with programming languages like for example Java.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We uses Couchbase for storing huge amount of data undergoing frequent updates ans Couchbase turned out to be really amazing for this purpose.

We user Couchbase to save user profiling information . The mutation , fetch through standard Python SDK is superfast . We tested with 1000 concurrent user for parallel fetch and mutation and the performance is amazing < ms with very standard indexing storage

  ### 18. Couchbase and ElasticSearch - dynamic duo

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keith L. | Chief Technology Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2015

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

As an entry point into NoSQL, Couchbase is great. Setting up a cluster was amazingly easy. I almost felt like I had installed Chrome. The web interface also is quite rich, and easy to use, and it has built in monitoring so you can see how well it is performing. We looked at mongo, but it was more difficult to set up. We also have found Couchbase to be quite fast. It also integrates well with our windows environment and with .Net as well. We had already migrated our apps into a Service Oriented Architecture and Couchbase slide right in. Also the plug-in with ElasticSearch greatly increases the power of Couchbase giving you a premier search index on your data. The community is also quite vibrant and a good source of help.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

Documentation is pretty thin. What is available is well written but not deep enough. Also to determine which design patterns for your data documents to use is missing. They leave you on your own, and it is not clear how to fully leverage the product with your design. N1QL is coming out, but without it to find data in your buckets you have to write code. Also the web front end will not display large documents so I had to write a front end to see a lot of my documents. Also when updating the OS for nodes in my cluster is a pain. The failover process can get hung up with unclean virtual buckets and you have to write code to populate all 1024 v-buckets so that they will balance properly otherwise it will get stuck

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

The product is very simple to setup. But knowing how to structure your data is a real challenge. This challenge exists for all SQL to NoSQL conversions. I strongly suggest using the ElasticSearch plugin.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Search Search Search. With Elasticsearch as our index and Couchbase as a store we now have awesome search capabilities.

  ### 19. Couchbase Server delivers on the promise of rapid microservice development in the cloud

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brant B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

Couchbase Server makes continuous delivery of microservices in the cloud very easy with its schemaless approach to JSON data. For most cases, it's as simple as just deploying a new microservice version, no DDL changes required at all prior to deployment. We're also very excited about the forthcoming scopes/collections feature and how that may help us more easily ensure data separation between microservices.

Couchbase's memory-first architecture flat cluster topology also deliver on performance, especially for transactional data with significant mutation rates.

The N1QL query language is great to work with because it's so SQL-like, and much easier for developers to learn and reason about than other NoSQL platforms while also being more feature-rich.

On the IT operations side, managing the cluster itself is made incredibly easy using Couchbase Cloud or the Autonomous Operator for Kubernetes. The architecture itself also makes things easier, with auto sharding and no need to configure read-replicas.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

The full-text search system is great for small-scale operations, but is still a somewhat young product offering. In some cases, use of a separate system like Elasticsearch is warranted.

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

When implementing a Couchbase Server proof-of-concept, the learning curve can be slightly steep compared to more traditional RDBMS systems. However, the curve is typically less steep with Couchbase than with other NoSQL platforms. There is a great community online on their forums and Gitter that can help with any questions during a proof-of-concept phase.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Couchbase has allowed us to operate at scale with low-to-zero downtime for maintenance in a continuous delivery microservices architecture.

  ### 20. Truly enterprise product with great customer support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

Its Easy to use, work as expected and does not require very less regular maintenance and checks.
Moreover the new UI is good and increased observability of the product which really help .
I also admired that their kafka connector are very robust and they have handled many boundary scenario when it comes to consistency.
They also innovate fast and i am looking forward for new features around transactions and multi-tenancy .

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

Documentation, I wished the documentation can have more in depth . Sometimes i had to reach to the customer support to ask about behavior of some common scenarios like failover and cas values . I wished that kind of documentation will really help .

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

I would really suggest couchbase if your application is mission critical and require consistency .Further its easy to use and should be hassle free experience to integrate .

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Couchbase is primary NoSQL database of Mindtickle and used for almost all major core application for NoSQL store as well as for Caching frequent docs to improve latencies in core applications .
Our primary use case was a consistent KV store, which should have consistent lower latency for single/bulk CRUD calls, intelligent client and have stable kafka/kinesis connector available for CDC.

  ### 21. Couchbase is good for caching

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

The UI which I feel is a cherry on cake. It gives a nice view and couchbase becomes easy to use. The sdk also is easy to use and integrate.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

It is slow when we talk about performance compared to peers. The UI is also slow while loading pages.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used it for caching the data. Millions of records and it did pretty well. The retrieval latency was good. We used couchbase because we already had a license for some othrr use cases. And it was really good choice.

  ### 22. Proven reliability for the multi-tier CRM backend solutions

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eugene M. | Implementation Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

We've been using Couchbase along with a multi-tier CRM backend for hundreds of our customers and never had a headache with it: simple to configure, easy-to-use CLI and clear documentation makes it a valuable part of our backend system.

It is low enough on VM resources consumption and single instance handles a few backend environments, seemlessly.
It is also easy to work with Couchbase in local environments: both linux and windows distributions are available.

I can definately recommend this tool as a cache service for your products: self-hosted or in the cloud.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

There is not much to say about the disadvantages of it. Maintenance and deployment are easy, experience was good.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a cache server for user login session tokens and some static content.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jose Alberto E. | Solution Architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

The NoSQL Couchbase Database server , is highly flexible in the usage and configuration. You can easily go from a community server to a licensed one. Great customer service, their support and assessment have been highly valuable.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

It would be great to have more certifications on their side, so we can have more developers that we can be sure that have more knowledge of the platform. Right now, is more hit-or-miss with developers.

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

Consider Couchbase when you need a document-based noSQL Server. It is recommended highly above MongoDB, because of support, ease of use, and great flexibility and tools. Finding developers that know about the platform could be a little difficult, but it is very easy to learn.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used it for our internal developments, for Product Catalog developments, and some time-series database solutions. The benefits are the flexibility and support for the platform.

  ### 25. Review

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gaurav P. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2021

  ### 26. Couchbase for everyone

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

Query lang N1QL is convinient, detailed and very fast.
Faster key-value storage.
Integration with other platforms viz Elasticsearch.
Scalable across multiple locations.

Couchbase has been quite a usable for our implementation. We had similar experience with our previous "trial" implementation, however it was short lived.
Couchbase has so far exceeded expectation. Our implementation team is more confident than ever before.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

We're still evaluating the business outcome, so far we are observing inconsistent resource utilization (viz memory, cpu), may be we need to optimize further.

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

My recommendation would be for scenarios with real time analysis where we are satisfied. I'm not yet able to provide recommendation to scenarios which involve real time processing, I'm also less knowledgeable here.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted a multi-region multi-cloud Infra statistics storage platform for Analytics and Decision making. So far it has solved the purpose of multi-region multi-cloud Infra statistics storage.

We're using couchbase to gather Infra health, stats for near real time analytics, to make decisions to scale out or up the Infra.
We have more than 40K servers in our Infra, both virtual and physical. We've historically had slow processes, to reading performance statistics from each of them and analyzing them. Before we could react to a need for server upscale, an incident would have happened. This is where we tried other solutions and are currently using Couchbase. We are able to load vast amount of data every second and come up with near real time decisions.

  ### 27. It is one of the best NoSQL solutions I have ever worked with!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Faozul A. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

I am using Couchbase as the main database of my current project. But great thing is that when it comes to storing temporary or using cache-based database, I don't have to use another solution, Couchbase have already the memcached solution. Using the memcache style buckets provided by Couchbase was much more efficient and flexible than memcached.

Another amazing feature which I get is, I don't need to store data in another storage for implementing elastic sesrch. which is very convenient for the development purposes. It also has some languages support which exactly I needed for the Full Text Search implementation.

The cross data center replication allows me to keep the system running all the time by configuring replication and data is always available.

I didn't need to learn another quey language, cause the N1QL is so much like MySQL and PostgreSQL which were my previous skills.

Making Ad-hoc queries using the analytics service was very flexible, specially as it is possible to run on separate nodes in a cluster.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

Basically there is nothing I dislike about Couchbase. But for the first time it was hard for me to setup channel filter. But its easier now.

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

When you can get the sweet taste of NoSQL in accordance with Full-Text Search and Memcached in one place, definitely Couchbase is your hero.

Ensuring data integrity and availability with the XDCR, things are awesome and smooth.

When you are an enterprise user of Couchbase, you will have great support from the team starting from before purchasing the enterprise solution.

One important thing, take the free and/or paid tutorial provided by Couchbase which is helpful while designing the system and data structure.

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using extensively Couchbase buckets for storing and reading geo spatial data which is the main feature of the system I am developing. And I can use the geo spatial queries provided by the Couchbase.

Also, I didn't have to use the Elastic sesrch and store data again there. I just used the already-there FTS aka Full Text Search feature in Couchbase.

I didn't have to use Redis because Couchbase is giving me plain-old-memcached mode, which is awesome!

When it was about deployment, process was easier and I had help from the Couchbase support team, a great relief.

**Reviewed by:** pooja a. | Intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Couchbase?**

I discovered how fast and efficient couchbase is when we used indexing for query efficiency. And the result was brilliant..The query performance drastically bettered when the bucket had massive records. Native queries and stringified queries are easy to be created as syntax is much like mysql.. Couchbase UI makes it very flexible to work and handle with buckets.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

Until now the only con I discovered is the tutorials are very few on internet regarding native and stringified queries or for couchbase concepts in deep.. The documentation explains the concepts quite well..but does not have enough examples and we need to go through it more than once to understand it all.

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

It's best if usecase is for nosql, when data to be managed is massive and when you have good machine which can handle couchbase efficiently. My experience is based on using couchbase locally in non prod.

**What do you dislike about Couchbase?**

The N1Ql queries is something useless, in my opinion. They are very slow! I've used couchbase in a very big project with many concurrent requests and I noticed that at some point when you make lots of requests with n1ql, the couchbase server restarts, even though they were nothing performant... only selecting document by key.

**Recommendations to others considering Couchbase:**

Don't try to use n1ql

**What problems is Couchbase solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are getting millions json documents per seconds with very fast with minor load.
