## Coderbyte Reviews
 ### 1. Easy Setup, Comprehensive Coding Tests That Save Time

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte is easy to set up and get running. It’s very comprehensive, with a large set of test questions to choose from, and they work across multiple languages. It saves me a heap of time figuring out who can actually code and who’s just faking it.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Pricing for small business is a bit rough. If you are hiring for many roles, the pricing is a bargain. Also, the pay per candidate option is OK if you are sending out a comprehensive test to a final few candidates. As a small business, hiring one person every couple of years, it is expensive.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Testing which candidates can write code and who is pretending. Coderbyte helps to sort though a large list of applicants

 ### 2. Excellent for Recruiting!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pippa Rose R. | Head of Technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We were able to setup our own challenges as well as throwing in some challenges that have been pre-written by coderbyte. It lets us have the questions we want whilst getting some good ideas.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Pricing is very geared up to you having continuous recruitment requirements, which certainly for a small business, is unlikely. Bought for one month, then cancelled but it would be nice to see something a bit more tailored.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting an idea of a candidates skills before hiring them, and also as a way to narrow down applicants before a formal interview. It's also nice to have something to discuss with them at interview.

 ### 3. Extensive Assessment Library and Seamless Candidate Evaluation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hiram S. | Recruitment Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Starting for their extensive library of assessments for candidates. The ability to conduct a live coding interview within the platform and how easy it is to evaluate candidates.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I do not have any strong dislikes, besides the fact that if you are not currently paying an invoice, you can not see past candidates' results.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is saving time, we are able to evaluate the technical abilities of candidates before a full interview with an engineer, and we are sure that only suitable candidates are moving forward in the process.

 ### 4. Effortless Setup and User-Friendly Experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel S. | Group Recruitment Advisor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Super easy to use and set up. Also like the clear breakdown of results and scores.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Would love to have more use for roles outside of tech

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely helps when we have a high number of candidates.

 ### 5. Easy-to-Navigate Testing Platform with Top-Notch Customer Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sreelakshmy M. | Associate - Talent Acquisition, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The tests that have been created and easy to navigate site - customer service is top notch

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Pricing is a bit on the expensive side..

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping us get qualified candidates for various job requirements

 ### 6. Effective and easy-to-use hiring tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

As a CTO, I used Coderbyte to screen and interview engineering candidates. It’s easy to use, quick to set up, and the assessments make it simple to compare candidates. It saved our team time and helped us focus interviews on the strongest applicants.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I’d love a more flexible plan for months when we are not interviewing as much.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Coderbyte helps us quickly assess technical skills of engineering candidate before live interviews. It saves time, reduces bias in screening, and lets us focus our interviews on the most qualified candidates.

 ### 7. Great for Candidate Assessment

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte is very user-friendly. Every time our team uses it, we have a very easy time setting up assessments.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

One hangup from my usability is that, when exporting assessment reports, code can sometimes get cut off based on how the PDF formats, which can be inconvenient when sharing with other stakeholders in our interview process.

It also is generally a bit pricey.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us assess candidates' technical ability early on in our interview process so we can move the right people forward.

 ### 8. Effortless Interviewing and Testing at Scale

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cameron M. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Makes it easier to interview and test people at scale. Support and ease of use is fantastic.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

When I'm not constantly interviewing, the monthly subscription doesn't make sense for me.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to spread the opportunity of our role have have a top of funnel of thousands of people.

 ### 9. Great Analysis and Auto Detection, Satisfying Question Bank

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The analysis and auto detection. Also the question bank satisfies our need.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The only issue I have is that it's not possible to pause the subscription. However, I understand that there are compliance limitations involved.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They save us a lot of time when it comes to validating candidates' technical skills.

 ### 10. Extensive Test Variety with Engaging Challenges

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrea T. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I appreciate the wide variety of tests available, each offering different levels of difficulty.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

At times, I find the user experience is not very intuitive.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Building a new Development team from scratch without having a specific hiring department

 ### 11. Great tool to assist in the recruitment process

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It is a really useful tool to assist in the recruitment process. It whas really great to have some coding tests that help us identity good candidates. Also, it has a great dev environment and support for many languages.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It would be great if solutions were provided and more take-home projects for full stack developers. You need to be careful to avoid making the test too long. Apart from that all good.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is supporting the process to asses software developers candidates in the technical area. It also provides some benchmarks to know where the candidates are sitting.

 ### 12. Great Test Site for Hiring

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carrie C. | Training Coordinator & Happiness Curator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Month to month contracts, easy to use :-)

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

There really isn't anything I didn't like

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a great testing platform to help us in hiring new software engineers.

 ### 13. We moved from testgorilla to coderbyte and honestly impressed how good coderbyte is!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harsha A. | Founders Cafe - FC21 Fellow, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It just works! Honestly, while Coderbyte is great for us, I’m even more impressed with how it benefits the people completing the assignments. TestGorilla introduces a lot of friction in the workflow, but Coderbyte keeps things straightforward and simple. The IDE in Coderbyte is significantly better, and I’ve noticed more applicants completing their assignments, which gives us a larger pool of candidates to choose from. Support is awesome and quick too.

Additionally, while TestGorilla doesn’t offer API access, Coderbyte provides both API and webhook access, making it easy for us to connect with our CRM. With TestGorilla, we had to pay for Zapier just to integrate it with our CRM, but Coderbyte eliminates that hassle entirely.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Pretty much nothing. It's all smooth so far.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accesing the level of candidates.

 ### 14. First time using an online code evaluation tool for hiring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It was super easy to configure the assessments, and the candidates found the site very easy to navigate. I also really appreciate the pricing model at Coderbyte, as it was much less expensive than alternatives while still offering the (admittedly basic) functionality we needed.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It was frustrating to be limited to 50 candidates at a time, which was not super clear until we actually got around to giving the assessment and had to turn people away. We also found it frustrating that it would cost significantly more expensive to be able to offload the assessment results into a JSON or CSV. We ended up just doing it manually and would have been willing to pay slightly more for it, but not another $100 or $200 a month which it cost.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Coderbyte made it much easier to evaluate the coding skills of intern candidates than reviewing their code manually like we had done in the past.

 ### 15. Huge time saver

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte has saved us a ton of time compared to our old processes, which included things like requesting code sammples, or sending them coding challenges that we had to manually run and verify. To be able to send candidates a simple link, and get a quick report is a huge time saver.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

They have been unwilling to fix a bug in one of their assessments, despite me reporting it several times. We had to manually create our own assessment (which is a nice feature) to be able to correctly assess candidates.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem of getting coding examples from many candidates. This has saved us a ton of time over doing it manually.

 ### 16. The best developer testing platform I've managed to find.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David J. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We hire new developers regularly and because we offer remote and global roles, we get hundreds of applications. Coderbyte is fantastic for sending technical screening tests to allow us to shortlist down to the very best. The tests are good quality and the 'cheating detection' feature really alows you to spot the best candidates.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

If there are any downsides, I would suggest better integration options to make it easier for us to match tests against the actual candidate in our applicant management platform.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It means that we can judge candidates on their ability and remove bias from the process. Coderbyte's tests are thorough and there is a good variety.

 ### 17. Simple to setup

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It's easy to setup assessments and follow them up.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The interface seems a bit outdated and some exercises are difficult to understand.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's easy to setup quick assessments, and speedup the recruitment process.

 ### 18. Extremely helpful assessment platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Cheating Detection
Ability for candidates to choose multiple languages to code
Extremely easy to get started

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

No pointers as such. Sometimes the invite links didn't work.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Technical assessments for the software developers role. This is helping us screen candidates when we get too many candidates for a role.

 ### 19. Very good for non technical founders to access talent at scale before taking time away from CTO.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tyler S. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Accessments at scale. Our C level team only has one technical person, so we utilized it for accessing talent withouttaking time away from our CTO's time for early accessment

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It gets quite expensive once you want basic function like export and has no notification to candidates on accessment results - and not being chosen.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accessing talent at scale.

 ### 20. Best tool out there to take technical assessment

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Navneet R. | Talent and Client Acquisition Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Unlimited test, AI Detection tool, and Plagarism detection. There are sufficient number of technical question that can used as per the requirement. The templates are also good. Customer support is also good. We can easily create and send the test. As this provides unlimited test we use daily. Implementation and integration is also easy.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Payment takes 2-3 days to get pocessed resulting in the halt of our work.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can check candidates technical ability saving us time and filtering good candidates.

 ### 21. Great Choice to evaluate candidates

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It makes te platform very esay to make your own evaluations and have a better view of their technical abilities.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I use it for my IT employees, it would be great to include other test for my administrative team.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easier recluting

 ### 22. Coderbyte platform helped to hire right candidates for startup

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

Coder platfrom really saved my time and effectively hire right candidates. As a startup founder i need platfom whcih is not very expensive and do the right job. Thanks CoderByte!

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I think , Having more challange questions on each topic would helpful to choose.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it helped hiring right candidates

 ### 23. Great value for bulk hiring. Needs more variety in assessed subjects and export options.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Ability to send test invites in bulk
cheating detectors
dashboards
Good spread of assessments for coders

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Need to pay extra to just export the data
Unable to get solutions to the test cases themselves
Can't set expiry date and time on public invite links
Can't upload a CSV file to send mass private links
Non-functional interview recording feature

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Assessing job applicants efficiently, it lets us screen the initial talent pool so we get qualified candidates.

 ### 24. Hiring became effortless and stress-free with the help of Coderbyte.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adley A. | Senior Director - Analytics, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Setting up and administering Coderbyte's coding challenges to candidates was a breeze, thanks to its user-friendly interface and straightforward process.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

While I would appreciate a more comprehensive range of coding challenges on Coderbyte, the platform still offers various problems for assessing candidates' technical abilities.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enabling us to screen candidates technical abilities without having to develop the screening internally.

 ### 25. Good tool to weed through candidates

 ### 26. We are hiring better engineers with greater certainty, accuracy and at greater velocity.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lonnie M. | CEO and Co-Founder, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It is quite evident that in today's market, business needs to build technologies at an exponential rate. With it, the ability to bring on qualified talent quickly to meet the demands while hitting target deadlines on time. Crucial to any Software Engineering manager is the ability to evaluate and test the engineer, but most of all, the ability to manage multiple job requisitions and their evaluation. We help build over 27 Applications in the U.S. with more clients coming to our Mission to build Nearshore Software Development Teams, https://www.fwscience.us , so at the very core of our business process, we have to rely on the best tools in the market. Coderbyte is cost-effective and delivers incredible ROI to our fast-growing business with over 100 Sr Level Engineers working with the Top tech companies in California from locations in Baja California.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It's not a dislike - it is a growing platform and with it a more mature feature that allows for full API integration with an existing system that I think they are going to be offering in the near future.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

The UI is exquisite and the data output is going to deliver accurate data to make the best hiring decisions.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Business Speed to market hiring in order to meet business product objectives with greater velocity and delivery certainty.

 ### 27. Easy to use Tech Skills screening for employers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben B. | Talent Acquisition Lead & HR Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Easy for people, even without a tech background to understand the difficulty and types of tests to administer to candidates and to understand the skills.
Also has enough details for those who ARE technical to do a more intensive deep-dive into those skills.

The flexibile pricing plans and affordability of the plans is a huge plus.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

No complaints. Unsubscribed (with 2 clicks!) once we had filled the role we were looking at.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Giving us a way to quantify someone's tech skills - gives us the ability to compare candidates 1:1.

 ### 28. One of the worst product we have used ever for evaluation

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jagadeesh V. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We used many platforms before deciding on one, but it was the only platform which was not at all useful.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Features are very limited.
Support was not good.
Limited Customisation.
Couldn't use regularly due issues with applicaiton.
Couldn't integrate well with other softwares.
It was not easy to send invites and resend.
Setting up account and getting started was not smooth.
Tests were not specific to role as expected.
Waste of time and money.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

**Official Response from Nis Frome:**

> Your story doesn't add up.

Not at all useful? It's strange that you invited 30 admins and 100+ candidates to a tool that was not at all useful. Do you normally waste your organization's time like that?

Couldn't integrate well with other software? You didn't even enable the API key.

You might want to stay away from a keyboard and let professionals take it from here.

 ### 29. Good Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

This allows employers to test candidates across a wide range of technical skills.

Customization Options: The ability to select and customize templates for different roles enables employers to tailor assessments to their specific needs, making it easier to identify the most qualified candidates.

Integrated Interview Tools: The live coding IDE, along with video and whiteboarding capabilities, provides a robust environment for conducting technical interviews. This setup facilitates a more interactive and revealing interview process.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Overemphasis on Technical Skills: Relying heavily on technical assessments could potentially overlook other crucial skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are also vital for many roles.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It streamlines the candidate evaluation process by offering a comprehensive library of technical assessments across various programming languages and skills. This feature helps employers quickly and effectively screen candidates for specific technical competencies, reducing the time and resources spent on initial stages of hiring. Secondly, its integrated interview tools, including live coding environments and whiteboarding, enable a more interactive and insightful interview process. This aids in assessing not only technical skills but also problem-solving abilities and communication skills in a collaborative setting. Additionally, the platform's cheating prevention and detection measures ensure the integrity and reliability of the assessment process, boosting confidence in the evaluation outcomes. For non-technical recruiters, Coderbyte simplifies the task of assessing technical skills, while its flexibility in customization allows for tailoring assessments to specific job requirements. The net benefit is a more efficient, accurate, and comprehensive hiring process, leading to better quality hires and saving time and costs associated with lengthy or ineffective recruitment methods.

 ### 30. Good coding challenge tools

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yu-Chi K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It's easy to setup and use. Also, I like the builtin question bank that I can just pick questions from.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

For coding challenges, the test cases are on the easier end -- I reviewed the code, and some of the wrong solutions can still get most of the scores.

Also, some question descriptions can be improved a little bit -- would be great if Coderbyte allows editing the coding question description.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A quick and easy alternative for coding interviews -- instead of setting up a 45min~1hr coding interview for each candidate, I can just ask them to complete the challenge, and grade the code in 5 mins.

 ### 31. Did exactly what we needed it to do

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte is simple to use, straightforward, and does exactly what we needed it to do, which is to provide a colloborative coding environment for technical interviews.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Nothing stands out, because like I said we just needed a colloborative coding environment for technical interviews and Coderbyte did that perfectly.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need a colloborative coding environment to facilitate technical interviews so that we can insure our candidates have the requisite skills to succeed in the open role(s).

 ### 32. Makes it easy for code assessments, but will they survive the Gen AI revolution?

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nadim M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We needed to run interviews and serve code assessments for quick candidate screening. Coderbyte helps you get the job done.
We didn't test all the features, like open ended assessments or behavioral questions since we already has a system in place for them, but the code feature was easy to setup and share.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

In the chatGPT era, it is very difficult to make a remote assessment to demonstrate the candidate's learnt and innate ability to solve a coding problem.

Nowadays I expect everytone to be using an assistant to help the code solution. While coderbyte does seem to have some anti cheat feature, we didn't find it particularly useful.

Instead of restricting the interviewee workspace UI, I'd suggest to expand it and let them google search and use chatGPT on the same site. It's much more useful to see how they search or prompt than to suddenly see a code being pasted.

In any case, this has still been useful as a binary gate for the code stage. Everyone is expected to pass and red flag those who don't.

 ### 34. Simple but powerful tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Guillermo O. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It's simplicity. You can pick the profile or skill you want to assess and it will make a proposal you can launch in minutes. At the end you can just trust what the systems suggest. Of course you have to review the results and use your own judgement to considert the candidates valid or not.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

As it's focused only on developers, it's been hard to implement in other departments, such as Product or Quality, who work very tightly with the developers.
There is also little capacity to deploy general rules to all the assessments, which is important when you have several process (or seniority levels) in parallel.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For existing employers this helps streamlining the hiring process as it provides a simplified summary of the assessment to the interviewers before a proper interview.

 ### 35. Helpful as a platform for technical assessments

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Security and Investigations | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

CoderByte allowed us to pick from a broad range of question topics including calling an API which a lot of other assessment platforms did not have. The questions were up to date and could not easily be found when performing an internet search. Users are able to watch in video format what the candidates were doing on their screen.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Some of the video stopped after a long period of time if the candidate reviewed the question and then came back at a later date. Additionally, down time was counted in the time it took for a candidate to complete a question which made it difficult to guage an exact time.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows our company to easily create and send out technical assessments during our job searches.

 ### 36. Best Coding Skills Challenges

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

As a 37-year-old senior lead programmer, I've found Coderbyte to be a game-changer in our hiring process. It's my go-to platform for assessing candidates' coding skills efficiently and objectively. The standardized challenges on Coderbyte help me screen through a large pool of applicants, saving valuable time and resources. Additionally, the insights into candidates' problem-solving approaches and coding styles provide a personalized touch to the evaluation process, making it a cost-effective and flexible solution for our technical hiring needs.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I've encountered a couple of drawbacks with Coderbyte. Firstly, it sometimes feels like the platform lacks a direct connection to real-world application. While the challenges are beneficial for assessing coding skills, they don't always mirror the complexity of the tasks we handle in our day-to-day projects.

Secondly, Coderbyte tends to put a spotlight on individual coding performance. In our work environment, collaboration is key, and the platform doesn't fully capture a candidate's ability to work seamlessly within a team. Our projects often require effective teamwork and communication, aspects that may not be fully reflected in the solo-focused nature of the challenges.

These shortcomings have led me to believe that a more comprehensive approach to hiring, considering both individual coding proficiency and collaborative skills, is essential for building a well-rounded and effective team.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Coderbyte has been a game-changer in resolving some significant technical recruitment challenges. Firstly, it streamlines the screening process for me. With a plethora of candidates to sift through, the standardized coding challenges help me identify those with strong coding skills efficiently.

The platform also promotes an objective evaluation process, crucial for ensuring that candidates are assessed based on their practical abilities rather than subjective factors. This objectivity is key in maintaining fairness and transparency throughout the hiring process.

From a budget perspective, Coderbyte offers a cost-effective solution. By eliminating the need for elaborate testing environments or in-person assessments, it helps reduce the overall costs associated with technical recruitment.

One of the standout advantages is the insight it provides into candidates' problem-solving approaches. Reviewing their solutions on Coderbyte gives me a clear understanding of their coding styles and how well they align with the specific needs of our team.

Lastly, the platform's flexibility allows me to customize coding challenges, tailoring assessments to the specific skills required for a particular job role. This ensures that candidates are tested on aspects directly relevant to our team's needs.

In essence, Coderbyte has become an indispensable tool in creating a more efficient, objective, and cost-effective technical recruitment process, ultimately contributing to the success of our team.

 ### 37. Helpful screen tool for development skill and aptitude

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte helps us to assess coding ability and has become a core part of our interviewing process. It saves our team time by helping us screen for basic competency, in an async manner, before we advance a candidate on to team interviews with our staff.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Some of the challenges need some work or need to be refined further. Some candidates have reported bugs and issues when attempting to complete the coding challenges through Firefox and other less popular browsers.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previous to using Coderbyte, we would have 1 of our engineers jump on a video conference with each candidate, and give them a coding challenge on the spot. This wasted a lot of time for our engineers, was too time consuming, and didn't scale for when we receive a large number of applicants.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Every platform has its quirks, and Coderbyte for Employers is no exception. While my journey with Coderbyte has been remarkable, there are a few aspects that I believe offer opportunities for growth and improvement. Here's my unique review highlighting what I dislike about Coderbyte for Employers:

Limited Assessment Variety:
Although Coderbyte offers a diverse range of coding challenges and assessments, there are instances where I wished for more variety. While the existing assessments cover many essential programming areas, an expanded repertoire of assessment types, such as project-based evaluations or interactive coding exercises, could provide a more comprehensive evaluation of candidates' skills and potential.

Learning Resources for Candidates:
Coderbyte primarily focuses on assessment and evaluation, which is commendable. However, it would be beneficial if the platform offered additional learning resources for candidates. Including educational materials, tutorials, or coding exercises to help candidates improve their skills and address knowledge gaps would create a more well-rounded experience. This would not only benefit the candidates but also enhance the overall quality of the talent pool on Coderbyte.

Advanced Analytics and Insights:
While the skill reports provided by Coderbyte are informative and insightful, I would appreciate more advanced analytics and actionable insights. Going beyond the surface-level breakdown, incorporating predictive analytics or data-driven recommendations could help employers make more accurate decisions and optimize their hiring processes. Access to deeper insights about candidates' potential and cultural fit would be invaluable in selecting the ideal candidates for my organization.

Enhanced Collaboration Features:
As an employer, collaboration with colleagues and team members plays a vital role in the hiring process. It would be beneficial if Coderbyte offered enhanced collaboration features, such as the ability to share assessments and candidate profiles with team members, leave comments or feedback, and facilitate seamless communication within the platform. These features would streamline the evaluation process, promote teamwork, and expedite the decision-making process.

User Interface Improvements:
While Coderbyte's user interface is generally user-friendly, there is room for refinement and improvement. Simplifying navigation, enhancing the visual aesthetics, and optimizing the overall user experience would elevate the platform's usability and make it even more intuitive for both employers and candidates.

In summary, Coderbyte for Employers is a remarkable platform with immense potential. While there are areas that I believe offer opportunities for growth, such as expanding assessment variety, providing additional learning resources, advanced analytics, enhanced collaboration features, and refining the user interface, I remain optimistic about the platform's continuous evolution. Coderbyte's commitment to innovation and user satisfaction gives me confidence that these aspects will be addressed in the future, further enhancing the platform's value for employers seeking exceptional talent.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

While CoderBytes is an overall robust and effective platform, areas for improvement could significantly enhance the user experience. One of our primary concerns lies in the platform's lack of diversity in the programming problems presented. Although the quantity and difficulty range of issues is impressive, the challenges often lack a focus on real-world, practical scenarios. This can make gauging a candidate's ability to apply their skills in a realistic work context can be challenging. Additionally, while clean and easy to navigate, the interface could benefit from more sophisticated and modern design elements to keep up with the current design trends in tech platforms. Finally, while CoderBytes provides great analytics on individual performance, there is a lack of deeper comparative analytics, which could offer valuable insights into a candidate's performance about their peer group. These improvements would undoubtedly propel CoderBytes to new heights in technical recruitment.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CoderBytes for Employers is solving several critical problems in the tech hiring process.

1. **Sifting through large candidate pools:** Before CoderBytes, we had to manually review every resume and cover letter that came our way. This time-consuming process often led to potential talents slipping through the cracks. CoderBytes allows us to send coding challenges to a broad range of candidates and then automatically filter out those who do not meet the specified proficiency level.

2. **Evaluating technical competency:** With CoderBytes, we can measure a candidate's actual coding ability rather than relying on self-reported skills or experience listed on a resume. This has helped us significantly reduce the risk of hiring someone incapable of handling the role's technical requirements.

3. **Customized testing:** Different roles require different technical skills. The platform's ability to create custom challenges allows us to design tests tailored to the specific needs of a part, ensuring we assess the most relevant skills.

4. **Time-efficient process:** The platform significantly speeds up our hiring process. The time we previously spent on first-round technical interviews can now be spent on more in-depth interviews with candidates who have proven their technical abilities.

5. **Insightful data analysis:** CoderBytes provides detailed insights into how a candidate approached and solved the coding challenge. This data helps us understand the candidate's problem-solving ability, logical thinking, and code efficiency.

In conclusion, CoderBytes for Employers has streamlined our hiring process, improved the quality of our candidate shortlists, and provided us with a more reliable means of assessing technical competencies. It has saved us time, effort, and resources, and we believe it has contributed to more successful hiring decisions.

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Having conducted multiple interviews using Coderbyte for Employers, I can confidently say that it is a valuable tool in the hiring process.
I like that it provides a great candidate experience while maintaining robust cheating detection measures.
Whenever I ask candidates about any issues they had with the platform while doing their online assessment before attempting the live coding session, they have never mentioned any issues (except that the online session's IDE isn't as coder-friendly, which is good!)

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Sometimes, the email for resetting the password to the account is never received, making it a bit tedious to create another user.
Temporary credentials could be something to look into or prompt customer service.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Being able to have multiple sessions going on helps us conduct interviews smoothly
- The ability to evaluate candidates with a standardized format makes it fair
- The option to test candidates with real-world take-home projects enables us to evaluate practical skills of the candidates

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andreas L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We have mostly used the technical tests. It allows to create and store the tests depending on the role we weant to fill. The tests can then be reused when needed. It detects code cheating and also records the candidates' actions, this is very helpful to see if the candidates are honest when they take the tests

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

So far I haven't come up with anything that I dislike with Coderbyte, it has all the functionality to make it easy to use and fullfill the needs we have had so far.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Haveing a standard way of doing the screening depending on the role we want to fill. We set up the tests once and then we reuse them whenevr we need to recruite. It is also super handy that it is online so you have a centralised place where the candidates results can be found

 ### 43. Great experience, room for improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Khalid K. | Member, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2024

Good options for tests and viewing results

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Some browser issues faced by our candidates

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Filtering out bad candidates, moving forward with good candidates, very conveniently.

 ### 44. Great for creating custom interviews

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris A. | VP of Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We were able to create custom question sets and interviews tailored to the levels and roles we were hiring for. Their editor also was great viewing how people did and figuring out how they approached problem sets.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The format was pretty strict in regards to how multiple choice questions can be formatted. It would be great if there could be more flexibility in what is presented as a question

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a pre-screener to check if candidates had any exprience at all in an automated fashion that did not require human intervention. Coderbyte filled this hole for us.

 ### 45. Hiring for software developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohammad K. | Contributing Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The ability to use multiple scripting languages.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The relatively limited number of programming challenges.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

Please increase the number of programming challenges.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gauging the programming aptitude of candidates, specifically with regards to algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming.

 ### 46. A good service for small mom and pop businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I researched more than 20 companies that offer assessment testing. Almost all of them wanted me to signup for a yearly, expensive subscription. This may be a good option for large corporations, but what about business than 1-2 employees? Coderbyte didn't require a long term contract and made it so I could afford to hire two new web developers.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

What is there not to like? I have a bug or two while using the service, and the owner got back to me right away. He was so grateful to get my feedback. You would never get that kind of response when communicating with a big corporate giant company.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I post ads for new job postings on Upwork. Then I get a ton of responses from developers all over the world. How am I supposed to know which of them really knows their stuff? That is where Coderbyte comes in to vet out all the liars and thieves who want to steal my precious time.

 ### 47. Necessary for any hiring process

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jarom D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Having a code testing tool is 100% necessary in the tech industry. There are many options in the marketplace at the moment and most of them come with a high price tag. However, Coderbyte does very nicely to compete with others, but at a much smaller cost. The product is good for its ease of use; candidates have a nice coding window, and it tries to prevent cheating where possible. One of the best features is reviewing the output of the candidate in the video, to see how they worked out the problem and how they refactored.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The interface that is used for front-end development could be better and allow the interface to show changes in real-time.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping to hire candidates who know how to do the job and have a good grasp of the technicalities of building apps. This allows me to ensure the employees I hire are qualified for the role. It also gives some nice talking points during an interview as to why they made specific choices.

 ### 48. Excellent platform for candidate assessment

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Suman P. | Assistant Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2024

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

They were prompt in replying to my queries. I didn't have even a single unpleasant experience here.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I didn't dislike anything except that Coderbyte system had some login issues.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I could grade my students well using the autgraders provided in coderbyte.

 ### 49. Helpful tool for screening dev applicants

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alma M. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

There is a decent set of questions to choose from to help you get started. Specifically, the coding challenges provided a good variety of difficulties and focus. We found several that were appropriate for the role we were looking for.

Being able to play back candidates coding challenges was incredibly helpful in helping us more accurately review candidate work - rule out cheating, recognize natural iterative progression as candidates moved through the questions, etc.

Having multiple-choice questions and coding challenges represented in the same quiz was an excellent option.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The multiple-choice question sets were a little lackluster, and modifying and creating our own questions was cumbersome. Especially moving questions between sets when we wanted to duplicate individual questions (not just duplicate the whole set of questions).

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used Coderbyte to screen dev candidates for basic levels of knowledge and skill competency. It helps us qualify candidates and reduce the number of calls and interviews we need to perform.

 ### 50. Great tool for screening potential employees

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The tool is very easy to use. You can setup coding challenges that provide different levels of complexity as well as choose the languages that make sense for your organization. The screen recording is also a nice feature to be able to see the candidate work through the problem.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It would be nice to be able to select a set of questions and have it send out random ones from that selection.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We us Coderbyte as a pre-screening tool to evaulate if the candidate has the necessary skills before we have our engineers talk with the candidate.
