What I like most about Windsurf, now rebranded as Devin Desktop, is how naturally the AI fits into my development workflow. I mainly use it for Playwright with TypeScript automation, and it has saved me a lot of time while creating new test cases, updating existing ones, fixing locators, and understanding an unfamiliar codebase. Instead of constantly switching between the IDE and a browser, I can stay inside the IDE and get useful code suggestions, explanations, and refactoring help.

The Cascade AI feature has been the biggest highlight for me. It understands the project context really well and can work across multiple files, which is very useful when making changes to an automation framework. It doesn't just generate code, it also explains the changes, making it easier to understand and review before using them.

The UI is clean and easy to get used to, especially if you've worked with VS Code before. Performance has been solid with my Playwright projects, and Git integration, terminal access, extensions, and debugging are all available in one place, so my workflow feels smooth from start to finish.

Overall, it's one of those tools that genuinely helps me get more done in less time. Honestly, I don’t have many complaints because my overall experience has been really good. If I had to point out something, it’s that the AI suggestions sometimes miss the exact context—especially when I’m working on a large Playwright project with a lot of files. When that happens, I usually add a bit more context or rephrase my prompt, and it gets back on track.

Since new features are added pretty often, there are times when the UI changes a little between updates, so it takes some time to get used to where everything is. I love how Windsurf handles prompts by mapping out the steps clearly before starting to work on them. This helps me easily pinpoint issues or make changes in specific sections of codes without going through the whole code. The AI models Windsurf provides, even in the free plan, like SW 1.5, deliver impressive outputs that feel on par with paid models. It's great that the option to use SWE 1.5 model, so even when my paid plan tokens run out, I can still use the SWE 1.5 model for free. This flexibility is really helpful while I'm building projects. Windsurf saves me a lot of time, allowing me to work on multiple projects simultaneously and complete them faster. Recently, the update regarding payment plans was a bit troubling. They introduced limitations on daily and weekly usage even in the paid plan, which wasn't there before. This is bothersome as I'm unable to use the best models without quickly running out of tokens, leaving me with the free model, which lacks in some use cases. Also, while the UI is good, there could be improvements, like being able to use Windsurf locally. Something like connecting through commands and working on projects locally without the app would be really helpful. Moreover, during the setup, the free trial was confusing. Overall as a code assistance AI, I've found it to be helpfully. It has helped me with the tedious things I normally have to review documentation with especially commands like awk and sed when writing bash scripts. I appreciate the ability to switch between agents in Windsurf, as they are often updated, allowing me to choose the best one currently on the market.
