If I could only have one, it would be case text. **What do you dislike about CoCounsel Legal?** It sometimes takes an extra step or 2 that really shouldn't be necessary. As an example, I rarely need authority outside of Wisconsin and that should be the default. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** 90% of the time simply describing the issue is enough to get the answer. I never feel that I am shooting an arrow into pitch darkness. That if I just use one more word, I could've found what I was looking for.Lexis and Weestlaw provide the service but their charges cannot be justified by a sole practitioner. ### 4. Sometimes, some cases aren't in Casetext -- I can get a subsequent ruling, for example attorneys fees awarded but can't get the original decision. Casetext saves me money every day. The key difference makers for me are features such as CARA AI and Parallel search features. I also love the ability to cite check an entire brief and Casetext in seconds lets me know if the authority my adversary cited is bad law. I also like the ease of cutting and pasting caselaw excerpts with automatic citation. This feature alone saves tons of time. **What do you dislike about CoCounsel Legal?** There is not much I dislike about Casetext at all. The learning curve is short and the experience is very intuitive. Their customer service and research staff are responsive and have provided quality assistance when we needed to do some more advanced research. **What do you dislike about CoCounsel Legal?** There are some types of documents that are not usually available, specifically, briefs from appellate cases as one example, but it seems like additional materials are being added all the time. The briefs are more of a "nice to have" for us, so that isn't a deal-breaker. I would love to see more pleadings available though. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** Casetext has taken the fear and risk out of searching. We do not pay per search or per document, so I have been able to start with broader searches and see if there are related issues that may factor into the issue I think I am researching. If I had to pay to go down each of those rabbit holes, it would cost a fortune. We previously used another larger company for our research services and they provided state-specific forms - including pleadings and motions. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Casetext for researching and while their system is a bit different from others in the space, it is super easy to learn. I appreciate being able to upload a filing to get potential cites. As years went on, I was blown away by Westlaw and some of the cheaper services -- but didn't care for the price. Casetext is not only affordable, but is, in my opinion, the easiest-to-use research service online. You don't really need a lot of training to figure out how to use Casetext because it is designed so that the user can intuit how to use it. It has a clean interface and delivers search results quickly. It's worth taking Casetext's webinar series, though, because there are some gems hidden within how you can fine tune your search results. The best component is what they call "CARA A.I." Upload a memo or brief, hit search, and be prepared to be blown away. **What do you dislike about CoCounsel Legal?** The downside of Casetext is that it doesn't have old opinions. For instance, a loft of work I do involves water right opinions that predate statehood. These old opinions do not tend to show up in Casetext's search results. I would be happy to upload some of the old copies of opinions that I have should Casetext decide to create a community library where we can share documents. **Recommendations to others considering CoCounsel Legal:** Take advantage of the free trial and see for yourself how excellent Casetext is. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems that I've solved with Casetext involve quickly finding decisions and then being able to fine tune those decisions so that they are on topic. Note that Casetest does not require multi-year contracts for fair pricing. In other words, their business model doesn't focus on trapping their customers - they earn your business every day. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Casetext at our firm for nearly all case based legal research. We went from thousands of dollars a year (and increased bills every year - plus a multi-year contract requirement) to hundreds, plus a better platform and better service.
