Occasionally, provisioning will take a little longer than expected, but that's likely due to end-devices' connectivity. **Recommendations to others considering Cisco Meraki:** Cisco likely still offers the 100-device trial of their Systems Manager, so I suggest you try it and compare it with your existing MDM. You'll see how much faster it is to accomplish certain functions. After working with Jamf and AirWatch, it's just as powerful, but working within the system is more intuitive and device provisioning is very fast. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed to manage various devices throughout the business, as too many issues were occurring (mostly from users making changes to devices in their stand-alone/unmanaged state). With Meraki's SM MDM, we are now able to effortlessly provision in-house applications within seconds, restrict usage to specified networks, and spend less time troubleshooting user-caused device issues. Overall, it has significantly improved productivity for us. ### 2. Compared to other options we were using or evaluated when looking for a new solution, Meraki was clearly the easiest. We also have other infrastructure from Meraki and it integrates well with Systems Manager. It's all managed from a single website. Most of the features we've tried to use just work. The support has typically been pretty good as well. There is also a no touch required remote desktop feature that is great. It's also very easy to send command prompts to one or many devices. The hardware and software inventory features are pretty robust and have been very helpful. It's easy to push and manage apps for end users as needed. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** I think there are some features that are lacking or not fully baked. Especially when it comes to Windows systems, there are some things that would be nice to control or manage that just aren't there yet. We also have a handful of devices that show as non-compliant for seemingly no reason, but this is relatively few and far between. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** This has been a great way to supplement the way that we monitor software and hardware inventory. It is also helping us maintain a good baseline of security compliance on all of our laptops and mobile phones. We have also started integrating a handful of Macs into our environment. It includes a great variety of preconfigured profiles with which policies can be implemented according to the applications that are handled. The cost for small and medium-sized companies makes it very competitive. Within Cisco, comparing it to Firepower (ASA) costs can be reduced considerably. Something very important to note that SD-WAN is that it is just one of many features that are included in the equipment and with the same license. For example, the topic of content filtering and malware protection is already included. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** Personally I would like it to support more than 2 links. The limitation of 2 links per appliance limits it to not being suitable for larger companies that need more robust solutions. It is also necessary to consider that among the different models the capacities between one and the other are not always adequate and going from a model of 50 users to one of 200 or one of 1000, greatly increases costs, which for a medium-sized company is usually bad or inconsistent on the part of meraki. On the other hand, the Meraki TAC support is not the best. They take a long time to solve the problems and the agents do not always seem to be well prepared, although when we escalate the cases, we reach solutions, this takes some time, which, compared to the Cisco TAC, the Meraki TAC falls below. **Recommendations to others considering Cisco Meraki:** It is very important to take into account the growth within the years in which you want to acquire the license since they could be short and need to acquire other Hardware. For example, if there are 40 users and they expect to have growth in the next 3 years, the most recommended is to take the Hardward MX84 instead of the MX64 or MX6X series, in order to be covered in the growth that the company will have. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** In our company, interconnect several offices with the meraki appliances, where we centralize VoIP. Thanks to the SD-WAN options we can define policies for its best use. Luckily most of these options are nested in a clear and logical style making navigation quick and easy. Checking on individual devices is straightforward and the options for each one are well laid out. Swapping between profiles or adjusting restrictions is super easy and can be rolled out in seconds. As you would hope making adjustments is quicker and easier through the web interface than having the device in front of you. Enrolling new devices is very straightforward and there are lots of different options. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** We mainly use Meraki for around 90 iOS devices and that is the only area tat I find annoying. Apple still has a very weak story around device deployment and this shows in all sorts of places. We also use Airwatch and others at a corporate level and all seem to exhibit the same degree of erratic behavior. Devices seem to drift out of profile and many of our devices have slightly different load outs on them over time. This often necessitates re-profiling periodically. Again though, this seems to be an iOS 'feature' that doesn't occur on android or other devices. Sadly our users love their iPads and iPhones so we just have to hope that one day apple take this sort of stuff moe seriously. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** Huge improvements in terms of app delivery to the correct people. Sending less on Apps as none are wasted through licencing. Finally it protects our devices and keeps everything working as well as possible. ### 11. What I think is best is the ease of cloud management, being able to access from anywhere. On this platform I can import the plants from the places and keep everything well organized and safe. When something goes down I receive an alert and resolve the issue as soon as possible. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** It is a tool that is being improved with each new firmware. At the beginning I suffered from some small bugs in the graphical interface, but today the problems have been solved. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** This tool does not take up space in our data center because the controller is virtual and not an appliance. Everything is in the cloud and this optimizes management, electricity costs, maintenance and space in the rack. We have about 60 employees and the coverage, bandwidth and seamless roaming make it an absolute dream. The Meraki Dashboards is a peace of cake to use, and provides visibility to everything you'd need and THEN some! You can view a heat map of devices that are connected, you can track usage by category, amount of data used per device, etc. I will never use another solution for my networking needs. I have been using Meraki for different environment and I have been referring to everyone. However, we have some people counters connected on the network and we have to restart the Meraki appliances to get them working occasionally. The interface takes out all the complexity you see with other vendors, while allowing you to accomplish those same use cases. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** Cost was initially a factor, however when bidding and comparing to other solutions - this was hands down the best choice. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** Given increased reliance on cloud services, an ISP outage can cause big issues. SD wan allows us to utilize our redundant connection to increase our bandwidth, versus having it sit idle waiting for failover. Most importantly, if a failure occurs - things just work. ### 16. The menu has great explanation bubbles and links to more documentation. The Google Maps and building map integration for AP placement is also very nice when managing multiple sites under one console. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** There is a delay from when you send a command to when it actually applies, but this is the nature of a web based controller. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** I now have a greater insight into our wireless network, traffic, clients, bandwidth, and controls. The Default settings are pretty sane and tweaking is easy. Features are being added on a regular basis. I was very excited to hear MST support was being added to all AC wave2 and newer APs. You get all the features you need without having to invest in a ridiculous amount of controllers if you have lots of small sites, or lose features by running Cisco APs in FlexConnect mode. The switches are great for access switches, though I would recommend handling routing on another device. The dashboard and API makes it both possible and almost easy for site techs with little to no networking knowledge to update port configurations (when allowed by tagging, nice!), find devices by mac address, and do other basic but essential tasks that would otherwise be bogging down the network team. The MS product line is also very well done for specific use cases, although they lack advanced features and settings. For the price they are excellent. The MV cameras are a wonderful addition to the product line. They are easily managed in the same dashboard as everything else. The best feature of the MVs is that basic processing and video storage is on the camera itself so installing cameras via a wireless bridge, or using wifi for uplink is not a strain on the network or the RF environment. All of the products can be managed by dashboard or API. The API is great as it makes it easy to, for example, write a script to import 1000 devices in to the dashboard, and assign them to the correct network. It can also be used to have a script that allows non-privileged dashboard users do single tasks that may otherwise require admin rights--assigning devices to groups for example. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** Occasionally new products require beta or unreleased firmware to be feature complete. FIrmware updates to the switches have not been as smooth as updates to APs. When using the switch as a L3 device for a site and there is a problem with the uplink connection (and connection to the dashboard) syslogs do not show up in the dashboard. You can export a dump to send to Meraki support, but then it's a support call for something that could be simply solved by viewing syslogs (or better yet having console access) to the device. The MS appliances are limited for my needs. There is basic URL filtering, but reporting requires an add-on product of some sort that completely replaces the functionality like Cisco Umbrella. Complicated routing or policy-based routing just isn't possible at this time. For a basic branch office they are great though. **Recommendations to others considering Cisco Meraki:** Run a trial. Test every edge case. It's not for everyone. **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** I replaced over 1000 Cisco APs in FlexConnect mode. I was able to get features like mDNS forwarding, etc... again without having to have a WLC at each site. Site techs are now able to look in the Meraki dashboard and find devices on the network and do basic access port VLAN changes without bugging the network team. MS appliances at small sites are plug-and-play and don't require a skilled tech on-site to do the install, make changes, or replace the device if needed. WAN failover is great. ### 18. There are plenty of technical articles on deploying these solutions and integrating them to other products. Support is very responsive and available 7X24. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** The licensing model can become costly over time. Mixed messaging on AC power cord ordering for locations outside of the US. The solutions are a subset of the main items "most" users would utilize, there are certain features such as BGP which are not available and limits to integrating to other vendor solutions. **Recommendations to others considering Cisco Meraki:** Start with a trial and determine if this is for you. It is not necessary to have a dedicated engineer on staff to manage a large and complicated network. Meraki is easy to use and truly embraces the mindset of plug and play without being limited by capabilities. Site-to-site VPN, operational spares, and a large number of networks and other devices have made Meraki a worthy solution to install. We have had and implemented them for a couple of years, and we have never had issues with installation, equipment, and/or configurations, a more robust setup, and I have felt more comfortable making updates remotely as needed. Finally, manage the entire network from a single dashboard, control users, applications, and devices. There is no controller hardware or management software to install or maintain. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** They have some limitations nowadays when it comes to installations in large companies, although the solution is aimed at small businesses. The product overall is extremely informative and helpful. I no longer have to run multiple command line or powershell bangs to get the information that I need. Cisco Meraki has put all that information a network or system admin would need right in the dashboard. The only thing is managing networks can be a little clunky sometimes. It took me a minute to get used to the maps interface. VPN setup takes seconds. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** MX appliances are missing some features, they provide DHCP but then don't provide DNS. DNS is fairly standard on perimeter devices and can't think of any competitor that doesn't have it. Support is sub-par and often does not provide you with solutions. The client VPN should have a software client. Have to rely on native OS vpn which for Windows has been buggy and causes problems. Sales team is unresponsive when you need something. Mainly because some of our equipment is old and not compatible with some of the newer encryptions and methods. I've used 2 of the security appliances and they have been rock solid for over 5 years. I used to have to reboot my linksys router at least once per day - I can't remember the last time I rebooted the MX router. **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** The licenses are pricey and it's hard to understand what you get based on the descriptions. **Recommendations to others considering Cisco Meraki:** Meraki is expensive. While I wouldn't pay licensing for an access point, I would pay for it on security appliances and switches. We rely too heavily on the networks to support us and what you're really paying for is the warranty and support. Allow and offer solutions for networks from wherever you are. It has an interface that is too pleasant, didactic and easy to use, thus facilitating the tasks to be carried out. What I love is that through meraki, setting up a VPN is supremely simple and easy **What do you dislike about Cisco Meraki?** One of the things I do not like is that although they offer DHCP they do not offer DNS. In addition, DNS is quite standard in perimeter devices and can not think of any competitor who does not have it. Also some of the devices to be used lack some features. Try several times through the help of Support to solve some problems, but it is very poor and does not provide good help. **Recommendations to others considering Cisco Meraki:** improve characteristics of some devices **What problems is Cisco Meraki solving and how is that benefiting you?** Many business problems I have managed to solve thanks to Meraki, these jobs have been related to remote offices.
