"CGMiner software is developed by C (programming language)."

What do you like best?

CGMiner has the ability to connect to many mining pools. Hardware, though, was originally designed to communicate with extraction hardware, but today it also connects to all graphics cards.

What do you dislike?

This software does not have a GUI, and you must use the command line to interact with it.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

At the top of the CGMiner window, all your Mining hardware is automatically listed and you can easily change their settings by writing very simple commands (for example, enable or disable verbose mode or add new hardware).

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Because many hackers, by manipulating the CGMiner, have created a similar version of their malicious purpose and used it to secretly extract their victims' systems, anti-virus is heavily sensitive to CGMiner and prevents it from downloading and using. Therefore, if you want to use CGMiner on Windows, it's best to create an exception or exclude and prevent you from scanning CGMiner software files.

"Free Lightweight Miner for Bitcoin"

What do you like best?

Very simple and lightweight miner in mining world, and can combine the technology of ASIC,FPGA, even with GPU and CPU. It can be used in many os from linux, mac, and windows.

What do you dislike?

CGMiner need to be configured properly and sometimes it is kinda complicated. Having said that ,it is usually only for the first time.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

CGMiner could add a simple wizard setup feature that perhaps provides configured popular mining pools and simply have a simple GUI to make the setup easier.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Mining a new block especially these days in bitcoin world, it is very hard to mine a single block and it gets harder everytime as can be seen from blockchain web, current devices will become useless somedays. However CGMiner can utilize and combine your rigs either from CPU, GPU, FPGA, or ASIC to optimize the mining and extend the use of those devices. CGMiner also provides data those rigs to analyse them the speed of mining and the temperatures that affects the mining and lifetime of the devices.

"Awesome option for cross-platform cryptocurrency mining"

What do you like best?

CGMiner is a ASIC, GPU, and FPGA miner that is maintained as an open-source product and works on platforms including Windows, Linux, and macOS. CGMiner is extremely flexible platform-wise, and can work with a variety of hardware miners, and GPUs, including the CUDA and NVIDIA platforms. There is, however, a lot to improve. It is also very easy to debug algorithms and miners at the very beginning through CGMiners very helpful logging and debugging tools.

What do you dislike?

CGMiner is a purely command-line tool. When there are a lot of features and settings to control, the purely command-line interface can make it very hard to control the behavior of CGMiner. There are a variety of GUI tools (also maintained as open-source), that help with this, but many of them do not interface well with the actual binaries of CGMiner.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For those looking to implement cryptocurrency mining on a variety of hardware or any platform, CGMiner is a great free go-to tool, but the lack of a graphical interface may make the process of installation a little more difficult than necessary. In that case, it is probably necessary to look at other similar tools that have graphical interfaces as well.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CGMiner allows us to generate a second form of income during times when the market for cryptocurrency is good, for the local graphics cards and rendering servers we have that are usually idle or not in use. CGMiner takes very little configuration and is very quick to set up for these purposes.

"A miner with lots of options for windows and linux"

What do you like best?

Its very efficient and it has lots of options to play with. Its better on linux due to system resources usage is less than in windows and you can mine more than one cryptocurrency.

What do you dislike?

Its difficult sometimes to use it but if you are an advanced miner it should be easy for you

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you are starting in mining cryptocoins you should start with GUI miners first, as MinerGate or nicehash miner but if not is a good solution to use

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have some mining machines and we use CGMiner to mine with them because it has very good stability and its scalable

"Solid open source mining softeware"

What do you like best?

This open source miner is actively maintained when compiled from the nightly release repository. There are multiple forks available that provide various support for your miner. I find that this is provides stable performance with decent hash rates. There are miners that have higher hash output but that is largely closed source and offset by developer fees.

What do you dislike?

They could provide more regular releases, as is it has an official release about twice a year.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use this to run all our mining rigs.

"Great interface and nice variety in the mining system"

What do you like best?

Compare to other mining system, this one being an open source make it more easy to configure with our own preference.

What do you dislike?

The only downside is the experience required to use this system.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Not for beginners

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

There are no real business problems to solve with CGminer, the only benefits comes from mining with some more powerful / recent graphics card, but at this time the price/return is too low compared to an ASIC mining system.

"You need to have a Deathstar to mine some"

What do you like best?

Easy to compile , configuration information is easy to be found on the web

What do you dislike?

I let it run for 2 weeks and I did not make a dime on bitcoin mining. Sometimes it also just crashes by itself. restart of the computer is then the only way.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

buy yourself a rocketship computer before you step into mining

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

no business problems. only bitcoin mining.

What do you like best?

Open Source!!! Great documentation! Command line based! And more!

What do you dislike?

Lack of USB native driver support for Windows. Flaky implementation on Windows.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

TRY IT!!!

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I realized open source alternatives for crypto mining are often better that closed source variations due to the free and transparent nature of open source software in the CS community.
