  ### 4. Free Lightweight Miner for Bitcoin

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Evan C. | SAP Technical Consultant Associate, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2019

**What do you like best about CGMiner?**

Very simple and lightweight miner in mining world, and can combine the technology of ASIC,FPGA, even with GPU and CPU. It can be used in many os from linux, mac, and windows.

**What do you dislike about CGMiner?**

CGMiner need to be configured properly and sometimes it is kinda complicated. Having said that ,it is usually only for the first time.

**Recommendations to others considering CGMiner:**

CGMiner could add a simple wizard setup feature that perhaps provides configured popular mining pools and simply have a simple GUI to make the setup easier.

**What problems is CGMiner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mining a new block especially these days in bitcoin world, it is very hard to mine a single block and it gets harder everytime as can be seen from blockchain web, current devices will become useless somedays. However CGMiner can utilize and combine your rigs either from CPU, GPU, FPGA, or ASIC to optimize the mining and extend the use of those devices. CGMiner also provides data those rigs to analyse them the speed of mining and the temperatures that affects the mining and lifetime of the devices.

  ### 5. Awesome option for cross-platform cryptocurrency mining

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2019

**What do you like best about CGMiner?**

CGMiner is a ASIC, GPU, and FPGA miner that is maintained as an open-source product and works on platforms including Windows, Linux, and macOS. CGMiner is extremely flexible platform-wise, and can work with a variety of hardware miners, and GPUs, including the CUDA and NVIDIA platforms. There is, however, a lot to improve. It is also very easy to debug algorithms and miners at the very beginning through CGMiners very helpful logging and debugging tools.

**What do you dislike about CGMiner?**

CGMiner is a purely command-line tool. When there are a lot of features and settings to control, the purely command-line interface can make it very hard to control the behavior of CGMiner. There are a variety of GUI tools (also maintained as open-source), that help with this, but many of them do not interface well with the actual binaries of CGMiner.

**Recommendations to others considering CGMiner:**

For those looking to implement cryptocurrency mining on a variety of hardware or any platform, CGMiner is a great free go-to tool, but the lack of a graphical interface may make the process of installation a little more difficult than necessary. In that case, it is probably necessary to look at other similar tools that have graphical interfaces as well.

**What problems is CGMiner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CGMiner allows us to generate a second form of income during times when the market for cryptocurrency is good, for the local graphics cards and rendering servers we have that are usually idle or not in use. CGMiner takes very little configuration and is very quick to set up for these purposes.

  ### 6. Gcminers seems to be the optimal solution right now

  ### 8. Solid open source mining softeware

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark N. | Chief Digital Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2018

**What do you like best about CGMiner?**

This open source miner is actively maintained when compiled from the nightly release repository. There are multiple forks available that provide various support for your miner. I find that this is provides stable performance with decent hash rates. There are miners that have higher hash output but that is largely closed source and offset by developer fees.

**What do you dislike about CGMiner?**

They could provide more regular releases, as is it has an official release about twice a year.

**What problems is CGMiner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use this to run all our mining rigs.

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2019

**What do you like best about CGMiner?**

Easy to compile , configuration information is easy to be found on the web

**What do you dislike about CGMiner?**

I let it run for 2 weeks and I did not make a dime on bitcoin mining. Sometimes it also just crashes by itself. restart of the computer is then the only way.

**What do you like best about CGMiner?**

Compare to other mining system, this one being an open source make it more easy to configure with our own preference.

**What do you dislike about CGMiner?**

The only downside is the experience required to use this system.

**Recommendations to others considering CGMiner:**

Not for beginners

**What problems is CGMiner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are no real business problems to solve with CGminer, the only benefits comes from mining with some more powerful / recent graphics card, but at this time the price/return is too low compared to an ASIC mining system.
