"Carbone.io is undoubtedly the best tool for generating documents based on templates."
What do you like best about Carbone?

You can generate documents in DOCX, XLSX, PDF, XML formats and you are not forced to only use PDF as output. It is easy to use and utilizes standard files to generate the templates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Carbone?

I think there should be a more accessible option for self-hosted, although their plans help to make it not so critical, as well as their high availability of support and the API when using hosted subscription. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible and Developer-Friendly Document Generation Platform"
What do you like best about Carbone?

Carbone stands out as an incredibly efficient open source solution for document automation. It supports a wide range of templates (DOCX, XLSX, PDF, HTML and more) and makes it easy to separate document design from data logic. The ability to use JSON or other data sources and generate standardized documents in minutes is a major productivity boost. Plug-and-play integration options for cloud, on-prem, or docker—with no-breaking change guarantees—make it perfect for businesses who need flexibility. The API documentation and SDKs (Node, Python, etc.) are detailed and easy to work with. The best part: you get high performance document generation without the usual vendor lock-in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Carbone?

The learning curve can be a bit steep if you're new to template-driven document generation or custom data merging. Some advanced features and document logic require a close read of the documentation to master. While Carbone's support is extremely responsive, a few niche integration edge cases could use even more documentation or best-practices examples. Pricing is fair, but the free tier's usage limits will require an upgrade for active business users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
