This gives you a 30,000-foot view and then the projects and tasks required to implement are organized for you based on the policies selected. It's almost like paint by numbers with tasks, projects and policies to satisfy the requirements of multiple security frameworks. **What do you dislike about Carbide?** Unfortunately, many frameworks have similar but not identical requirements, which leads to some duplicate tasks. Once you identify them as duplicates the staff at Carbide can delete them though. **What problems is Carbide solving and how is that benefiting you?** Carbide was helpful right off in making it easy for us to fill out the many long security questionnaires we are asked to fill out by potential customers. Then it helps track our progress towards compliance and security audits, and finally, it stores the evidence we've collected to prove we are compliant. ### 7. Once we had policies, the tasks and policy sign-off tools are very helpful **What do you dislike about Carbide?** The main framework we are working towards isn't currently in Carbide (GoC Protected B/B, or NIST SP800-53). Even if you could map controls onto your own framework or something like that. The asset tracking interface is also a bit cumbersome, as is the policy editor. A WYSIWYG editor would be nicer in my opinion. **Recommendations to others considering Carbide:** Carbide really helps when you need to set up an InfoSec program but don't have the staff to create one from the ground up. It helps you get going and gets you pointed in the right direction with very little experience needed. It also helps keeps the reams of paperwork and compliance evidence organized and up to date - a task that is very daunting without a tool such as Carbide. **What problems is Carbide solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a startup, Carbide helped us immensely with creating our baseline policies. This is not Carbides fault, but an industry fault. I think if there was better examples on the Carbide platform of similar sized and similar field businesses as examples that would help! **What problems is Carbide solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is solving our issue with needing to be ISO certified and to create detailed methodologies and documentation for processes within the company. Even though the platform is for security, it is helping me document the processes for my development team. ### 12. It allows you to see a history of versions and to identify which updates need new acknowledgements and which are minor updates. **What do you dislike about Carbide?** The web application is consistently slow to load, which is tough when you're trying to work through or assign a bunch of tasks. And I'm not finding a lot of guidance about what to do in the software. The built-in training programs are also nice for making sure all staff members are up-to-date on requirements for security and privacy-focused practices. Storing the policies in Markdown format is convenient. **What do you dislike about Carbide?** While Carbide was great to get started to build our portfolio of policies, we find the ongoing operational value to be lacking. Even with policies in place, having an easier search engine and content repository for answering security questionnaires would be great. We have been offered services to support these requirements in the past by Carbide, but we'd rather find a software platform that helps us rather than hire an individual to do the work for us. After the first year once we have all the documentation in place, continuing to pay the same annual subscription fee might not make as much sense without ongoing benefits on top of the fairly static policies. **What problems is Carbide solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ensuring that required security and privacy policies were in place and organized within the company. As time went on over the past year or so, the points of contact (meetings) significantly reduced. Having more sustained, synchronous (face-to-face) contact on a regular basis would be appreciated, particularly as a young startup company with limited prisec knowledge/skills within our team. **Recommendations to others considering Carbide:** Definitely worth strongly considering using Carbide. Good group of people. Provides good support. Adding and editing content is simple. The ease of automating all of these tasks that used to involve a lot of manual tracking makes it extremely effective for us. There are also a lot of integrations that allow importing and monitoring of data from many tools, such as GitLab, Google Cloud, etc which make the process so much faster. **What do you dislike about Carbide?** As an admin, my only real complaint is the sheer number of notifications generated. Every few days I'll end up with 100 or more notifications, meaning I often miss important notifications. It would be great to be able to manage and select which notifications you receive, or at least group them together (eg User completed 25 quizzes, as opposed to individual notifications for each quiz completed). **What problems is Carbide solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Carbide to manage our SOC2 program to keep up to date, both with user management/training as well as keeping straight and organized all of the dozens of different data points needed to maintain compliance.
