I would put them next to Cisco or Juniper any day. They are functional, reliable, quick, and the support from Barracuda is second to NONE. **What do you dislike about Barracuda CloudGen Firewall?** Nothing. I mean they could cost less, but you get what you pay for at the end of the day and when you are protecting a company from people doing things they shouldn't have to do, cost starts to become not as relevant. **What problems is Barracuda CloudGen Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is securing internet access for our whole agency. We use small firewalls at small facilities to build VPN tunnels back to the main facility. The original problem it solved was an inherent ACL in a Cisco ASA that I needed around for a specific purpose and Cisco was unwilling to do anything to make it work. Barracuda, I could do it out of the box... and that was the old X series firewalls. The cloudgens are light years ahead of them when they stopped making the X's. ### 2. We have been working with the firewall for years **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024 **What do you like best about Barracuda CloudGen Firewall?** More than 8 years ago the task was to replace a shared infrastructure consisting of several firewalls and network accesses, some of which were simple devices without next-gen functions or modern ones such as ATP, botnet protection, etc. Since I had only just started the position, I was familiar with the entire structure and data streams completely unknown. Unfortunately, my predecessors didn't do a particularly good job in terms of documentation. The observation mode made it easy to analyze the current data stream and plan initial optimizations and detect weak points and security gaps. This made it possible to build in parallel and switch directly. Afterwards, all deficiencies could be eliminated in small steps. Despite the many firmware updates with some architectural changes over the many years, the basic operation has not changed and updates were possible without support except once (an old configured network was not removed correctly). Changing the hardware was extremely easy, just import a backup of the old one, wire everything up and off we went. Otherwise, daily operations are very quiet and give me a lot of freedom for other tasks. **What do you dislike about Barracuda CloudGen Firewall?** he configuration software is only available for Windows. Some firewalls offer Wireguard support, which is still missing here, as this is the only solution available, especially for smaller third-party companies that we connect with. **What problems is Barracuda CloudGen Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?** Except for a second firewall (for UCM), it is the only authenticator, access point, network protection and router we have. The configuration is logical and easy after a short training period. This creates more time for other activities. ### 3. That said, once you become well versed in how to navigate, set up and operate the firewall rules, objects and aspects of the network(s) you're running, that downside becomes a strength. **Recommendations to others considering Barracuda CloudGen Firewall:** We're currently working on implementing Barracuda Sentinel in the field, in conjunction with Barracuda Cloudgen Firewalls but there are so many other devices and applications in the Barracuda world. The IPS has done a great job alerting us to when something suspicious is going on. This lets us be able to see things as they occur real time. It is also our means of controlling our bandwidth usage. We especially like the fact that we can shape traffic based on not just IP events, but also by applications using up all of our bandwidth. ### 40.
