Currently, I have over 120 terabytes of files on their cloud, a huge collection of hard drives, much like the hard drives I have at home. 3) If you pay for the yearly option, which I do, it will keep your files online and safe for one year, if your drive/computer goes down. This is a very handy feature. **What do you dislike about Backblaze Computer Backup?** I cannot find much of a downside for BackBlaze, other than, of course, it cannot upload your data when your computer is off and/or you are offline. **What problems is Backblaze Computer Backup solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have a Toshiba 18TB hard drive that’s starting to fail. I can’t repair it, and while I can still copy files from it, I’m no longer able to delete anything. I checked BackBlaze online, and the backup for this drive includes all the files I have at home. So if the hard drive stops working completely, I’ll still have my files on BackBlaze for a year, which gives me plenty of time to recover everything. That extra time also lets me shop around for a good deal on a replacement drive when I have the funds to buy one. It truly feels like a set it and forget it service. Once it is installed, it quietly backs up everything in the background without needing constant attention or technical know-how. I point to a drive or a folder, and that's pretty much it. I became a customer in 2017 after moving away from the CrashPlan situation, and Backblaze immediately felt like a breath of fresh air. It was easy to install and use. It could be set to automatically backup, or manual. Previous IT Admin set up the Backblaze account. One of the companies I set this up in accidentally delete over $100,000 worth of 3D models on a project. I had set up Backblaze with restic to take 24hr snapshots and was able to recover all of their work within an hour. Their pricing model is awesome. The drive stats that they publish have guided several decisions when implementing storage for clients and my own company. Their pricing is extremely reasonable. Mixed with restic, the Backblase B2 system is extremely easy to integrate and automate. **What do you dislike about Backblaze Computer Backup?** To be honest I have not found much to dislike. Its very much a fire and forget system. Check your backups to make sure they are being performed properly at least once a month but thats about it. Before I go further, I take full responsibility for not caring enough to pay attention to the 30 day window that data stays stored on Backblaze. *For example, if you backup an external hard drive (which was the case for me) and then unplug it, naively thinking it will be stored longer... the service will keep backing up the computer that said external hard drive was connected to and after 30 days, the external hard drive will no longer be backed up. Where I have a problem is with the way Forrest McDonald addressed this very upset and distraught person, me. In the first email I explained that I was aware of how the service worked and that I wanted to inquire about recovering this lost external HD from the Backblaze side. Long story short, Forrest repeated himself by literally copy+pasting his last email, and then proceeded to explain the thing I had already stated I understood in the very first email. ALL-IN-ALL, I am a music producer and from my own mistake, lost hundreds of unfinished works and ALSO can attest that Forrest McDonald, has no heart when it comes to others misfortune. We are in the information age, this is why support and care in a data recovery business is of utmost importance. I am crushed from my mistake and hurt that someone could respond with no solution, or condolences at the least. It's a bit frustrating to have to give full disk permissions to Backblaze on a Mac, but that's Apple's fault, not Backblaze, and Backblaze had good communication about the change with the Mojave update. The last two backups I downloaded over the internet have had errors when unarchiving. Setup is beyond simple; selecting drives and files to schlep up to the cloud is insanely simple. The control panel is easy to use and its quick display of how much I have backed up gives me easy assurance that they have my files. The ability to have private key encryption on my uploaded files makes me feel a whole lot better about them having access to all of my files. Cheap costs for thumb drives and harddrives to be shipped in the event of catastrophic loss is lovely as well, but their simple downloading and restore system (which benefits from very high speeds) ultimately (and pleasantly) makes it moot - I'm able to do a full restore extremely quickly. **What do you dislike about Backblaze Computer Backup?** The retrieval interface is a little clunky; an easier way to browse files and more clarity around how date ranges for restoration are selected would be great. More robust retrieval for power users such as specifying file masks, search on modification date and other file attributes, etc. would make it easier to use in the case of singular file restores in case of accidental deletion or the like.
