It is a fully managed DB migration service, which means all the severs underneath are managed and patched by azure only. If you are using the Azure env for your databases and developing or migrating your applications to azure this will help you there. You can easily migrate your on-premises database to Azure databases and use your databases on the cloud. After migrating it's your call to save some cost by freeing your on-premises hardware. You can use this service to any database, data type and choose between different migration types. It also supports multiple database types like SQL Server, Postgre, Oracle, and MySQL. One more exciting thing I liked about it is It supports the cross DB migrations, like the oracle database to Azure SQL server so this will be a better option to cross DB migrations as well. It also allows you to migrate the schema. Also, one thing I liked about this is we can also automate the process by using PowerShell commands. **What do you dislike about Azure Database Migration Service?** It supports restore to only checksum-based backups. Other than this there are no major things to dislike. It does its job very well. **What problems is Azure Database Migration Service solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is easy to migrate your databases to the Azure environment from on-premises. It offers near-zero downtime which is even great. This thing is very useful when we are working with critical databases. From the outset, we were able to quickly identify where our data was going to be stored and what our requirements would be. We simply migrated all data, relationships with objects, schema, modeling, etc without any complexity and in quick time, and at the first time of asking. We have had greater reliability since, with no outages. **What do you dislike about Azure Database Migration Service?** There was nothing to dislike. it exceeded our expectations **Recommendations to others considering Azure Database Migration Service:** I have been very impressed with the ease of using this service. its certainly been the easiest Database Migration I've ever done with any application. **What problems is Azure Database Migration Service solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have had next on downtime, so reliability and guaranteed service are already a by-word of this migration. High Availability is something we are now completely used to. Our execution of processes has increased with Azure easily handling any load difference. However, there is not always going to be an increase, there will be periods of volatility, where we will encounter decreases in processing. With scalability and elasticity in place, this can increase and decrease as when our own supply and demand in our business fluctuates. Critical business processes and jobs are run without any delay, performance bottlenecks, IO issues etc. Unlimited resources ensure everything runs as planned without detrimental performance or upstream liability. With our Database safely secured on the Azure Cloud, we are benefiting from increased security, and we have also implemented two-factor authentication into that model. With the isolation of the Database being a significant development and segregation from other services and applications security is enhanced even further. Savings are realised on Licensing through the Azure clouds and we've already realised this. ### 11.
