We had not used snowball before and didn't realize there was an actual device that would be shipped but it was like Christmas when it arrived. Our team was able to help the client transfer their data in hours -- something that would have taken weeks or months if we had take another approach or used a different device. It was incredibly scalable and met the budgetary constraints. **What do you dislike about AWS Import/Export Snowball?** There wasn't anything our team disliked, aside from the shipping delays caused by weather to actually get the snowball delivered but that was more of a mother nature issue than an Amazon one **Recommendations to others considering AWS Import/Export Snowball:** Give it a try! Especially if you massive amounts of data to shift within a specific timeframe. I can easily track transfers into and out of the cloud by date and client without latency issues. The fact that it is always up, as in no downtime, is a major plus. **What do you dislike about AWS Import/Export Snowball?** Some of the tutorial info is bloated and unnecessary. It would be nice to use some of the tools meant for new users without having to sit through each and every step that is written for newcomers to cloud management. I have also talked to users that are multi lingual, and they have said that some of the instructions do not translate very well. This is not an issue I have with Snowball, but it might be a good idea to take a look at how well translation is being handled. **Recommendations to others considering AWS Import/Export Snowball:** Slim down the tutorial and guide content. **What problems is AWS Import/Export Snowball solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have clients with thousands of files that must be managed, and Snowball makes it easy to move and securely store petabytes at a time. I have not once had a single issue with security, and the dashboard for various AWS services makes it easy for me to track what is being moved. I remember using an older cloud service that would, every once in a while, drop a file or get interrupted. This would cause loss of important data, or else it would cause a file to get corrupted and not able to be retrieved. Many companies worry about data transfers when transitioning to the cloud. After all, moving that data back to the infrastructure can be an expensive and time-consuming process. However, Snowball Edge makes it easy to inexpensively move large volumes of data to and from the AWS cloud. **What do you dislike about AWS Import/Export Snowball?** I'd really like to support a smaller company, but no one can really compete with what amazon is churning out in this field. **What problems is AWS Import/Export Snowball solving and how is that benefiting you?** You can use it to transport large data sets to the cloud or use it as a stand-alone tool to store data at a remote location. You don't have to change the application logic, just redirect storage to this device. Multiple devices can form a cluster for increased durability. Using Amazon Lambda, you can store and process data for analytical purposes.
