## AWS Elastic Load Balancing Reviews
  ### 1. Best Cloud service provider especially for intermediate to expert users

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashaysingh S. | Data Scientist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2022

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

There are a lot of tools available and they make it easier to integrate the products fast and reliably. e.g. there are custom ec2 images available and the ability to use specialized images for tasks such as ML. It is also quite easier to use Sagemaker and we are not forced to use terminal only.

It is quite easy to scale services as per resource needs and performance requirements

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

While there are a lot of services that do perform up to the mark, there are small things like delays in response or not showing resource consumptions for all machines, our team works in diiferent zones so we need to switch them for monitoring pusposes.

Also it requires to run a lot of services in paralled so it might be troublesome for users who are not adept to using it effectively.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

AWS is a great tool which offers reliable serives and high customizations to them.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has made it very easy to integrate many products and use tools like Kubernetes already part of AWS to monitor the containers. It can easily be used to control access levels which allows us to keep sensitive data private for model building use.

It allows submitting a custom VM image and restoring it or creating a new one with it.

  ### 2. working on cloud is high level experience and gaining vast knowledge of new technologies

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

not providing access to launch different type of instances to learn when we first create an account i am facing this problem if i go on to create EC2 with more vCPU
(You have requested more vCPU capacity than your current vCPU limit of 1 allows for the instance bucket that the specified instance type belongs to. Please visit http://aws.amazon.com/contact-us/ec2-request to request an adjustment to this limit.
Hide launch log)

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

My company is an evangelist of AWS for all the products we build. We've been using services like EC2, Lambda, SQS, Route 53, Cloudfront, Cloudwatch, and many more. The best part about AWS is its user-friendliness, reliability, and fantastic customer support. We've used AWS for building MVPs for startups and scaled those to reach millions of users, AWS has been a solid foundation for the same. Even for our Enterprise development AWS provides excellent security features and robustness.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Though every product has shortcomings, the user's feedback and the company's empathy can help it evolve gradually.

Some shortcomings of AWS are a dated UI, therefore only experienced users can extract the true value from the platform. Secondly, one has to be attentive towards their billings as certain instances if left unchecked can lead to extra bills. Also, the company should understand that the availability of good DevOps engineers is low everywhere therefore making the platform more efficient for self-service can help.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

A reliable cloud for businesses of every size. Recommended!

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform provides a reliable cloud to host applications without worrying about scalability. There are ample off-the-shelf tools and features that help in solving complex problems and can be integrated directly with the products.

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

I hosted my first web application on AWS, it has a lot of services to offer at a very competitive price, also the learning module of AWS helped me a lot in starting out my cloud journey. I find it very easy to build, deploy and manage websites. It provides great security and is beneficial for all types of users, students, freelancers, small companies, and large companies. Its database and storage services were useful for my project at my organization and now I am excited to get my hands on AI and ML tools of AWS. Another good thing about AWS is its largest consumer base and community support.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Other competitive platforms like Google Cloud are easier to use and deployment is quick there. Also, AWS charges a fee for technical support and AWS also have security limitations.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

AWS soft limitations, one has to put up a request for fewer resources instead of going ahead with the default requirements like EBS volume and EC2 instance.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

While starting out I didn't know anything about hosting a website or application, AWS came to the rescue. AWS provided end to end solution to host my website, right from building, deployment, managing the website, load optimization, storage and providing inside about the website traffic which really helped me strategize my focus area for the project at my organization. I configured most of my team's project on AWS and life was pretty easy after that.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

There isn’t much to dislike the product is perfect for the function that it does for the company. There are no main downsides to the product either.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

Introduce it now. It’s very cheap and takes a lot of pressure off the DevOps team. Investment in a proprietary load balancing software is much less recommended, because AWS ELB is constantly being managed by the AWS team. This means no hassle at work attempting to diagnose ELB issues, since AWS can take care of all of that for you.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can readily check the status of all of our registered targets and route traffic to only healthy targets as well. This helped us run diagnostics on our EC2 instances that were determined to be unhealthy. It also, as the name suggests, balances the traffic we’ve been receiving to prevent delays or buildups in the network.

Additionally with the coronavirus pandemic and the transition to remote work, AWS ELB has saved us from heavy traffic issues and has allowed us to access our applications without a second thought.

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2020

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Tight integration with all AWS services.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Scale up can be slow with unexpected spike.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

Best option when using other AWS resources for tight integrations and ease of use. Security via security group ingress rules is better than other vendor's implementations.

If you have heavy un-expected spikes in workloads could see issues where ELB doesn't scale fast enough in response to those events.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Distributing workloads across compute. Easy to roll in and out new compute nodes.

  ### 30. Relatively easy, reliable, reasonably priced.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Publishing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2020

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

It's relatively simple to set up, low to no maintenance, and very reliable in my experience. It handles internal or external redirects, as well as traffic balancing with ease. Even the AWS user interface isn't bad.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Certain aspects of the pricing model are a bit strange in my opinion. Rather than just by virtual appliance, for some balancer types there's a convoluted system of load balancer capacity units, which charge by number of rule evaluations etc. Also, some other AWS services essentially can't interact with the internet when they're in a VPC unless there's an attached load balancer.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

Pay very close attention to the pricing, particularly if you're using some of the older variants, such as classic. Certainly if you're running apps in AWS, this is a bit of a no brainer.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple auto-scaling, multiple application and subdomain-based traffic management, traffic monitoring, some useful features for security monitoring, particularly when combined with cloudwatch or SNS. Much easier than having to run self-maintained services.

  ### 31. saves lot of manual efforts

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Distributes load evenly across multiple availabilities zones with ease. Highly useful while running ML model on EC2 instances

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

for supporting multiple applications, multiple load balances might be required.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Performing spark and ml operations with EC2 instances on aws. No need to develop code distribute the load.

  ### 32. Elastic load balancing at cloud

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arpit Y. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2019

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Amazon elastic load balancer provides three type of load balancer , which help you at different layer . Application load balancer is the layer 7 balancer , network load balancer ,balances the load by content type and it is layer 4 load balancer and the classic load balancer is the simplest load balancer which distributes load among instances having same type content.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

The cost of load balancer is much high because we have to pay for hourly bases and also for per second data processing in GBs.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

Anyone can use amazon load balancing just by logging into AWS console and use any of the elastic load balancer as per their use.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can also create a internal load balancer with a internet facing load balancer , if we want that some of our instances should not have direct access to the internet then use internal load balancer.

  ### 33. AWS ELB review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anshu K. | Cloud Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2019

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

ELB is highly availbale and allows us to route the traffic to other servers instantly even if the primary one is down.
It is not chargeable.
ELB works well with AWS auto scaling (helps scale up/scale down at run time without any impact)

We can integrate ELB with Route53 and cloudfront to serve the request on time from different location to avoid latency.
It's secure and easy to install.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Nothing much except
It's tough to write demerits of ELB as most of the things looks good only.
port translation limitation and also not allowing us for our own custom IPs.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps in auto scaling our environment
Makes our application always accessible.
Quick way to balance traffic.
It is a central point of access from where all the traffic gets distributed
Easy to work with deployment of our webservers.

Great load balancer but almost free, it provides all necessary solution for your application include layer 4 and 7 load balancer, support both http and https, multiple certification support and multip backend pool configuration
It integrates well with Route53, AWS certificate management, cloud watch, and EC2 Auto Scale to provide a full solution for Application which requires high available, secure and scalable.
Log and monitoring system is very useful for troubleshooting issue

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Limited support for port translation, do not provide IP address option

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

Checking you requirement for ELB to choose correct ELB type, for example, NLB provides best performance if we do not need https or multiple backends

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We build a system with EC2, Autoscale, and Target Group and use https with the certificate from AWS certificate manager and Route 53 and Cloud Front in front to provide services.
our Load Balancer act as a central point with multiple Target Group for backend applications

  ### 37. Easy to use but comes with a big word of warning

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Spiros P. | Innovation section manager, Telecommunications, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2018

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

- Super easy to setup and use either with the console or the AWS command line tools
- Load balancing across multiple availability zones leads to application redundancy
- Supports sticky sessions with a cookie
- Easily configurable values of the application server's heartbeat and timeouts, so that the load balancer can identify unhealthy instances
- Monitoring, which is very easy to setup, use and extracted meaningful results from through Amazon Cloud Watch metrics

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

- Let me start by saying that the thing I dislike the most applies to the classic load balancer, which was the one used for my application needs. I did not use or have any experience with either their newest "Application Load Balancer" or the "Network Load Balancer". That said, the load balancer works great under continuous, non-spikey traffic but fails to accommodate instantaneous spikes in network requests. Extensive internet research showed that the load balancer needs to be "pre-warmed" and this is done by filing a request to Amazon support 24 hours ahead of the expected increase in traffic.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

- Does not respond well to traffic spikes
- Tech support is not included unless one opts for a plan
- Pricing is on the expensive side

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The goal of the project was to have a stateless Wordpress installation, as described in the "WordPress: Best Practices on AWS" whitepaper (https://d0.awsstatic.com/whitepapers/wordpress-best-practices-on-aws.pdf). Although we followed the guide to the letter, the end result failed to meet our requirements, mostly due to performance issues of the load balancer mentioned above.

  ### 38. AWS Elastic Load Balancing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Military | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

The ability to grow with our site is one of the biggest advantages to using this service. It is also very cost effective for what it has to offer.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

AWS as a whole can be intimidating, or hard to learn.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to quickly scale based on site demand is critical for being able to keep costs down and site availability up. It has tremendously helped us stay current, scale to necessary size, and deploy web based content and applications. Being cloud based is a huge bonus, due to its always-on nature and fail safes pout in place to ensure the safety, reliability and availability of our content and data.

ELB is easy to configure and has ample documentation available online.

The scaling policies automatically scale the number of machines and attach them to the load balancer.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

ELB is a bit expensive as compared to its other competitors. Also, it does not respond well to sudden traffic spikes. Another problem is setting up SSL certificates.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Handling huge traffic and keeping the web application available all the time in spite of huge user load

  ### 41. helps in fault tolerance of any application

The loadbalancer manage ssl certificate and add you ec2 instances automatically without any configuration.
The autoscaling instigation is perfect

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

the ssl configuration is a bit complicated and the security group name would be more accessible

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Elastic Load Balancing:**

you can go to the ELB without any problems

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

the load is automatically balanced thought my EC2 instance without configuration the instance itself or the loadbalancer itself.

  ### 45. Effort-less High Availability and Scalability for All Stateless Applications

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Davy C. | Business Analyst, Government Administration, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2016

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Amazon EB takes out all the hardware and configuration headaches, and simply works reliably well with enough flexibility for enterprise scale apps. When configured with auto-scaling, new instances are automatically attached and detached to the EB when load triggers and met to provide sufficient throughput while dynamically adjusting for cost.

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Setting up SSL certificates for the first time is no walk in the park. While the interface provides sufficient errors to hint at what works and what doesn't, it would be simply better to have deeper integration with vendors and/or guidance. While we haven't experienced the need for "pre-warming" for larger spikes in traffic, we are aware for the need to do so if we anticipate such events; otherwise, the EB is unable to adapt quickly enough.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our EB is bundled in as part of our ElasticBeanstalk web application, which serves tens of thousands of users everyday.

  ### 46. Elastic Load Balancing that's easy to use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Evan W. | Director of Engineering & Head of Cloud Transformation, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2016

**What do you like best about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

Amazon has very nicely integrated their Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) suite with their Elastic Computer 2 (EC2) interface, to the point where it is as if it is one single product. ELB have easy configuration and allow for different certificate propagation methods (along with IP).

**What do you dislike about AWS Elastic Load Balancing?**

There is not much to dislike really. If anything, I wish the real time metrics available was not a premium. I suspect it is already built-in but the exposure requires additional cost, which is not easily discernible.

**What problems is AWS Elastic Load Balancing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to find a way to load balance traffic at scale as well as provide a failover system for our hosted cloud products. This allows for service despite varying capacity and redundancy when issues arise.
