Really powerful system, with a tonne of API calls and automation hooks. **What do you dislike about Aurea List Manager?** It's only my personal opinion but we had a basic system beforehand and needed more help than we got. You don't get much support when dealing with issues like slow speed sending, software crashes, etc. They shift blame on MTAs now and again... I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't 100% sure they need it. It's also real expensive. Lyris has the ability to set up automated emails based on form submissions, drip campaigns, campaigns based on engagement with emails. There is also a lot of flexibility to set up custom variables on the fly. **What do you dislike about Aurea List Manager?** The tool lets the users have multiple lists for the campaigns. The only thing that makes this difficult is that an email address can be in multiple of these lists and be send many emails. It's hard to really merge or look at an email address globally to see what lists they are included on. The content management area where the images are set up is a little clunky. **What problems is Aurea List Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** The system was used to send all email communications for form submissions and students at the university. The benefits of how many automated emails and ease of customization and personalizing the emails is really helpful. ### 16. They tend to blame those things on parts of the product they don't directly support like SQL Server or your MTAs. **Recommendations to others considering Aurea List Manager:** Make sure you have a thorough understanding of email before attempting to use this product. My experience with their support has been that it is less than helpful, so you will spend a lot of time scratching your head if you don't know the ins and outs. You might be better suited with the hosted version if that is the case. **What problems is Aurea List Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** Amongst other things, our company thrives on lead generation. As such, we send millions of emails a day to our various lists. Lyris LM allows us to build and schedule these mailings in a dependable and reliable way. ### 18. I do appreciate Lyris HQ's more intuitive visual editor very much. **What do you dislike about Aurea List Manager?** I dislike the lack of attention of mobile browsers, and I wish the dashboard weren't flash. **What problems is Aurea List Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use e-mail to leverage our fundraising campaign and to attract event attendance. In the past they at least had a public knowledge base where you could search through issues. I've found a bug in version 10 that causes mail to completely stop. I even found published bug ticket descriptions, but have no way to find a solution. We paid around $30,000 a Lyris License for 1 million member list. They wanted another $20,000 to renew our support contract. They also don't have perpetual licenses anymore, if we wanted to upgrade the cost would be $62,000/year. I'm not sure who the target market is for this software but it seems like they are intent on pricing itself out of existence. **Recommendations to others considering Aurea List Manager:** I would recommend using a service like Mandrill, or Mailchimp. **What problems is Aurea List Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sending email messages to customers and subscribers quickly. Turn around time even by email is usually within just several hours. Support staffs do a very thorough job of making sure issue has been addressed each and every time. **What do you dislike about Aurea List Manager?** In the process to implement the Lyris API to automate the list management and message delivery, and discovered that their API would only allow a "pull" method for doing bulk upload (we would need to securely host our own data for Lyris to pick up, not the other way around). This is not a very common practice and has created some challenges for our company. Also, I feel they are lacking in providing support / features for mobile email and / or responsive design. **Recommendations to others considering Aurea List Manager:** Lyris has most of the features one would expect from an EMS. Can't really complain. As far as list management you are allowed to do append, update, but not directly replace an entire list (which may or may not be important for some). They offered a very limited-time "start-up" support package that did not at all account for the amount of time it would take us to figure out how to implement our first integration of almost any kind. Their email responses were slow. By the time we had the integration done and I needed help learning to use the tool, our start up time period was over, and they charged us on a per-ticket basis for every question I needed to ask. We moved to Exact Target, where four years later (and for a very similar price point), they still fall over themselves to help with every question or problem we encounter. **Recommendations to others considering Aurea List Manager:** If you're new to email and need coaching or hand-holding like we did, look somewhere else. ### 23. I've managed two installations of Lyris Listmanager over the past 10 years and every time from installation to operation it's delivered results. User management is key in mass mailing, with Lyris Listmanager your email management is completely automated no duplicates, automatic quarantine of bounced and failed email address are all inbuilt making management of your members easy. Reporting and analytics are a marketing managers dream, with Lyris you get a ton of reporting facilities from delivery statistics, heat maps which track how an email performs to member reporting letting you know how many people you're talking to. If you're a developer then Lyris Listmanager comes with a plethora of API calls and automation hooks. The Lyris developers even allow you to add custom database columns to mold the system to your requirements so you can get truly segmented data. If I was to join a new company and was asked to install a mailing solution, Lyris Listmanager would be my default choice. **What do you dislike about Aurea List Manager?** As you will tell from the above description of Lyris Listmanager, I like this system, but like with any software it does have its small annoyances. The downside to Lyris Listmanager in my opinion is the image handling of the content section, let me explain. The content management system of Lyris Listmanager allows administrators of the system to create standard content templates for easy mailing creation, along with having an image library for you to drag and drop images into these templates. You may think great! But the downside has always been that Lyris Listmanager handles images as references, it doesn't upload and store the file, in some instances this is counter productive, especially if the user doesn't have access to a FTP service to put the images on the web. Aside from this minor issue, the ultimate turn off to this system is cost. For a standalone system that you can install on your own server, your company will have to have deep pockets. But you have the hosted option should you so wish. **Recommendations to others considering Aurea List Manager:** With the onset of web apps and freemium services and free mass mailing scripts why would you want a system like Lyris Listmanager? Simple complete control! It's your data, your server and you have the keys to do what you want and how you want. Lyris Listmanager is a professional business tool built to support your businesses need to communicate with many people. With email messages still being the most effective digital marketing tool available at this present time, you need a tool that will generate conversions. Lyris Listmanager is such a tool. ### 24. Pricing comparable. **What do you dislike about Aurea List Manager?** Testing wasn't as easy, although haven't used the tool recently, was the tool with my former company. The IP addresses should be confirmed for all clients, the client I worked for their servers were named weird names and this is what showed up when users clicked on the email links. **Recommendations to others considering Aurea List Manager:** Compare all tools, make sure you get the latest version with support. Managing data wasn't that bad although we uploaded new lists for every campaign. ### 25.
