Shadow Protect has the ability to restore full VM's to new storage locations and spin up a VM if it fails. Save Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There is no ability to do file searching, only browsing of restore points that have to be individually mounted Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you're looking for a backup solution with DR capabilities (ability to spin up VM from backup), then this works fine. Saves the overhead on VMWare while using VEEAM, but it still uses VSS for backup and is taxing on system resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My Co workers and I have used this as our safety net. Every feature has worked as promised. It was an easy transition to have some backup files transferred to another system. We have never worried about our files because it backups all of our computers without us even realizing it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX?

The backup exploration is really helpful, we use in combination with our BDR system. It's very in-depth and has been invaluable to our company. The VirtualBoot option is an option we've used less-often, but it's nice to have that safety net available to us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX?

The licensing for us at least is by-server. This ends up being a very costly expense for an appliance that in an ideal world we'd never have to use.

Potentially this is the fault of our reseller, I inherited this system from my predecessor and overall while it's been great software, I've been unable to justify the price point. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX:

There are cheaper options for smaller companies I would consider. Veeam and BackupExec both have similar features that for a cheaper price will get the job done.

However if you would like the full in-dept suite of applications this allows you to use, and if the budget is there for it. ShadowProtect has been a boon to our data security. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX solving and how is that benefiting you?

An entire backup strategy, for both web and SQL applications. The hourly snapshot backups have been remarkably useful. I wish it would integrate with SQL more to create .BAK files instead of a manual maintenance plan being put into effect, but overall it's been very solid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
