Although I'm a junior in programming, I'm a purist-coding everything by hand. Everything about Arcjet, including the documentation, are easy to follow, the setup is easy to build.

The UI/UX of the Arcjet website is really modern, though I haven't used all the settings because the default ones are more than enough for me.

I'm a free user for the moment, but the pricing is more than fair for me, I will pay for sure as I will scale. But still usable as a free plan.

Performance wise, it's easy to play with the settings, so as you might make the policies more lax or more secure, while not affecting the performance not even a bit.

I like the fact that Arcjet's customer service is very quick in resolving issues, like when they swiftly resolved a problem with the TypeScript SDK. I also appreciate that the price is very competitive, especially for the WAF, making the service more affordable compared to others like AWS. Additionally, I find that the ease of use of the SDK and the clear documentation allowed me to integrate Arcjet with ease, enabling me to get started right away and focus on application aspects with little effort. Yes, regarding the SDK, there were some configurations that did not allow me to immediately understand if they worked or not. Some things are not extremely transparent, and they did not allow me to understand if there was a correct configuration until it was evident that it did not work. For a product of this scope, it is important that everything is clear. I would have preferred a more conservative approach in handling requests, similar to the one used for passing requests, but a more rigid path was chosen, limiting the optimal use of the service by some users. Additionally, geoblocking does not work well when configured with services like Cloudfront, resulting in accuracy issues in IP-based location blocking, which forced me to switch to another service for that task. What I like most about Arcjet is how easy it makes it to integrate security features into an application. The rate-limiting feature was especially useful because it let me protect my API from excessive requests by automatically rejecting repeated calls within a defined time window. It was simple to configure, and the documentation helped keep the implementation process smooth.

The main downside I ran into was during development. Because I was constantly testing and making frequent API calls, the rate limiting would often end up blocking my own requests. To make development easier, I had to raise the limit or temporarily disable rate limiting in my development environment. One thing I disliked was that the bot protection occasionally flagged some of my legitimate requests as bot traffic during development and testing. Since I was making many rapid requests while debugging, I sometimes had to adjust or temporarily disable the protection in my development environment. I used Arcjet in a personal AI banking project for PII detection and setting token/usage limits. It was really easy to integrate, and I liked that I could add security controls directly into the application instead of building them from scratch. I like that Arcjet basically acts as a service. Initially, it was a bit difficult to get my agents to incorporate it correctly due to some configuration issues, but once I had the patterns in the repo, it started consuming it as a service smoothly. The agents just needed some system prompting and better understanding of TypeScript. It was quick to use, and I think it's great, especially if you're building with Vercel. I think that some documentation or skills for agents to incorporate Arcjet would ease the onboarding for me. It was initially like a plug-and-play service, so I didn't have to worry deeply about bot detection. However, I faced difficulties with different subscription levels, user management and configuring sliding windows and rate limits for endpoints. The agents struggled with this setup, and it became confusing for them, especially with how Arcjet interacts with tools like Effect.ts. I find Arcjet pretty simple as it runs on middleware, and its SDKs are pretty good. I appreciate the first-party support for Next.js, FastAPI, and Flask, which I use, as many other services lack such coverage. Arcjet provides security for my email validation fields against spam. It's pretty good for what it does and quite flexible. The setup was pretty easy, and now with the skills, it's even easier. I appreciate the good documentation as well. I wish there was first-party support for the 10stack router in the SDKs. I know there's React router, but I'd prefer 10stack. Also, there's just a lack of information on the dashboard, and I feel like it could look a bit cooler. I'm not sure if Arcjet has built-in rate limiting because we use Redis for that.
