It takes minutes to deploy your first app and scale that app out. It's also been a joy to be able to scale the app out with a simple flip of a switch. **What do you dislike about Aptible?** The apps scaling is a little less finely tuned than I'd like. Cpu and ram scale together vs maybe a little more separately. Currently, in order to scale for cpu, one also has to scale ram at the same rate and increase costs. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have been creating a state of the art application to increase provider productivity. To begin with, we were able to get up and running very quickly. We have also been able to with a very small team build and deploy applications without the need to hire a giant devops team. ### 2. I guess it's the only cons so far I've seen. **Recommendations to others considering Aptible:** If you want to have all of your DevOps tasks to be solved in an efficient and proper way, just go with Aptible. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** All of our production and staging environments are in Aptible, giving us the freedom to worry about software development and not sysadmin tasks. ### 3. Lack of an orchestration layer (e.g., Kubernetes). **Recommendations to others considering Aptible:** Perfect if you're working in a medical setting, but would otherwise be using something like Heroku. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** We built the PoC of our data synching platform and our app-centric API. Deploying new builds is a snap, and the set of features supporting hosting is robust. It has hugely increased our ability to innovate and stay inside regulatory lines. **What do you dislike about Aptible?** The Aptible documentation is sparse. There are items that cover most topics, but we often have to dive out of the site to other places to learn more about how to proceed. The missing pieces are minor (I always find them), but with a bit more effort, it could be much more helpful. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** HIPAA-compliant hosting for healthcare clients. Our biggest benefits are speed of deployment, and comfort that our environment is secure. ### 5. During this time we've scaled flexibly, experienced zero down time, and have been privy to tremendous, timely support when we've needed it. **What do you dislike about Aptible?** If I were to improve anything about Aptible, I'd focus on improving the dashboard UX/UI. There are occasions when it's difficult to track down areas within the dashboard for handling certain use cases. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're making it possible for healthcare providers to record and distribute video content through an HIPAA-compliant web application. ### 6. That leaves the rest of the hassle to internal operations, which –especially on international teams– is already pretty messy. **What do you dislike about Aptible?** The lack of documentation for a platform intended for developers is completely baffling to me. A lot of the entries are just a few sentences long, at most, and don't really cover more than the obvious. Most CLI commands only describe what arguments they support, not what they do. These commands include delicate operations of the app like DB management where you shouldn't be questioning whether your interpretation of an ambiguous paragraph is right or wrong. Some operations that would seem basic don't seem to be supported. Renaming our instances meant a small migration for us, and there is no way to specify aliases. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've worked at a small startup focused around managing health care appointments and very private data. The fact that you can rely on the platform's responsibility for keeping that data private is great. ### 8. The 7 or so databases Aptible provides is a good start, but if you want to use something else you're out of luck as there is no way to back a container with persistance storage. Having EBS would be awesome then we'd be able to roll our own database if needed. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** Deployments are straigthforward and getting a service up and running from scratch is easy. ### 13. There is limited control outside of the Aptible CLI options requiring us to ask for certain things manually. This includes database configurations, how you can deploy images, reverse proxy configurations, and the granularity of scaling. **What problems is Aptible solving and how is that benefiting you?** We support issues in revenue cycle management for healthcare providers.
