**What do you like best about Applitools?**

I appreciate using Applitools for catching visual bugs that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. The consistency and deterministic outcomes make it reliable for identifying visual differences. The support is great, which adds to the positive experience. It's also easy to set up and use, thanks to the libraries available for all major platforms and frameworks. The integration with our existing automation stack was smooth, which adds another layer of convenience.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

Despite their best efforts, the maintenance can still be time-consuming for bigger test suites. It has significantly improved over the years, but it's still not there. For products in active development, the screens are changing every day. If you have a full suite, although you can group changes, you still have to go through them and decide whether the changes are intentional or a bug.

**What do you like best about Applitools?**

The standout capability for me is the Ultrafast Test Grid (UFG). It lets us scale visual tests smoothly across multiple desktop browsers, different viewport sizes, and mobile devices at the same time. As a result, we get broad responsive coverage right away without needing to build, host, or maintain a complex internal testing infrastructure.

Integrating the SDK into our existing automation framework was very straightforward and felt like a quick win for the team. On the execution side, being able to switch between Layout and Dynamic matching modes keeps our visual assertions highly stable and effectively removes the flaky false positives that are usually caused by dynamic data or shifting content. The Root Cause Analysis (RCA) feature is also exceptionally precise: when a mismatch happens, it points directly to the specific DOM changes or element displacement in the code, saving our developers hours of debugging time.

The Applitools support team is exceptionally responsive and proactive. Our weekly collaboration sessions have been invaluable, allowing us to quickly clarify technical queries and resolve roadblocks. This high-touch support has directly helped us build a highly robust, scalable testing framework for our responsive web applications in quick time.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

While the platform is highly efficient, there are a few notable gaps in the administrative and reporting tools. Right now, there’s no native option in the Applitools dashboard to set up automated alerts for usage thresholds when our team reaches a specific consumption tier, which makes proactive budget tracking difficult. In addition, the dashboard doesn’t provide a granular view of usage metric for example, a breakdown showing which specific pages are consuming our monthly license quota. Having a more detailed metrics dashboard would give us much better visibility and help us align the test suites we build with the actual resource consumption reflected on our monthly invoice. Finally, optimizing the initial test configuration for complex responsive layouts takes time.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We struggled to verify responsive layout consistency across an ever-growing matrix of browser versions and mobile viewports. Manual checks were too slow, and pixel-matching tools failed constantly because of minor rendering differences. Applitools Eyes addresses this by shifting the focus to AI-driven validation using DOM-based and different visual modes.

The centralized dashboard has also unified our workflow by enabling developers, QA testers, and Product Owners (POs) to collaborate in one place. We can review baseline changes and sign off on visual deployments together. This cross-functional visibility helps ensure design consistency across all form factors, while keeping our release cycles fast and predictable and allowing us to catch regression leaks early when visual changes slip in.

With UFG, we’re able to test many different combinations at once, very quickly, without needing to set up the infrastructure. As a result, we save time and effort.

**What do you like best about Applitools?**

Honestly, the visual diffs are the thing. They catch stuff my assertion tests never will — a button that shifted a few pixels, a broken font, two elements 
overlapping — and one baseline covers a whole page, so I'm not babysitting a dozen brittle locators to catch the same problems. Day to day, the review flow is what I lean on: something changes, I see the before/after side by side, and I accept the new baseline in one click instead of digging through a trace trying to tell a real bug from an intended change. That's the other thing — when it fails, I'm looking at a picture, not a stack trace, so I usually know what broke in seconds. The Ultrafast Grid checking several browsers and viewports in one run saves me a pile of separate runs too. And it's flagged regressions our functional suite didn't even see.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

The false positives, mostly. Anti-aliasing, a bit of dynamic content, a one-pixel render shift between runs — any of it flags a "diff" that isn't a real change, and now I'm in the dashboard rubber-stamping it. That's the part that wears on me: every legit UI tweak means going back and re-approving baselines, and on a big suite that's a chunk of time nobody accounts for. It's also a paid service you don't control, so a slow dashboard or a network blip can redden CI for reasons that have zero to do with the app. And it can't run fully hands-off — an assertion just passes or fails, but a diff needs a person to actually look and decide, which is awkward in an unattended pipeline.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The core problem it solves: my functional tests are blind to how the page actually looks. Playwright will happily tell me a button exists and clicks — while the layout's collapsed, text is overlapping, or a CDN font never loaded. The page "passes" and still looks broken to a student. Applitools is the thing that catches that. For us that matters more than usual because it's an education product — students and teachers are in it every day, and a visually broken page is a bad day for a kid trying to do their work, not just a cosmetic nit. The business win is mostly speed and coverage: instead of someone manually clicking through pages across browsers before every release, one baseline run does it, so visual regressions get caught in CI instead of by a support ticket after we ship.

**What do you like best about Applitools?**

I like Applitools for its intuitive Baselining feature and the ability to define ignore and layout regions, which is something I use the most. The new AI-generated summary feature is really helpful whenever there are changes. The RCA feature is useful for comparing side-by-side DOMs. The best part is that it allows setting up different resolutions for various browsers. It's an integral part of our automation strategy, supporting pixel-perfect visual testing across different browsers and devices, saving us from manually testing on physical iPhones and Androids. I also find it easy to integrate with tools like Cypress, Playwright, and Storybook, making it our go-to tool along with the Applitools ultra-fast grid. The Figma plugin introduction could also be useful for our design system projects.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

The baselining on cloud takes browser memory, so if I'm on a tab for a long time, things tend to become slow after a while and I need to close the session and open it in a new tab for it to work smoothly.

**What do you like best about Applitools?**

Applitools has become one of our most critical tools for ensuring release safety. We run visual regression tests both in pre-production environments and directly after production deployments. It has repeatedly saved us from critical visual and functional regressions reaching production. It acts as our final safety net, ensuring live users never see broken layouts or broken components.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

The main downside happens when a small change impacts many pages and we need to accept those baselines almost one by one. Also, maintenance wise, when there are many moving elements that we need to manually ignore. Those two points can take time.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a QA Engineer myself, it helps me replace dozens of element-level assertions with a single visual checkpoint per page and it validates that the visuals render across multiple viewports and devices from a single run using the Ultrafast Grid.

**What do you like best about Applitools?**

I really appreciate Applitools' AI-powered visual testing capability. It automatically detects UI differences that traditional Selenium functional tests often miss, such as layout shifts, font changes, color inconsistencies, and alignment issues. The seamless integration with Selenium and TestNG reduces manual validation effort. I also find the clear dashboard provided by Applitools very useful for reviewing and approving visual changes, which makes regression testing faster and more reliable. Setup was fairly easy for us since we were already using Selenium with Java and TestNG, and integrating Applitools into our existing automation framework was straightforward. Once we created the initial baselines, maintaining the visual tests became much easier.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

Applitools has been a great tool overall, but there are a few areas that could be improved. The initial setup and baseline management can be a bit complex for new users. Handling dynamic content often requires additional configuration, such as ignore regions or match settings, to avoid false positives. The pricing may also be a challenge for smaller teams. Additionally, I'd like to see improvements in test execution speed and more detailed diagnostics when visual tests fail to make troubleshooting even easier.

Additionally, Applitools offers many powerful features, but there is sometimes a communication gap around new releases and capabilities. At least for my team, we are not always aware of newly introduced features or best practices unless we actively look for them. More proactive communication, release summaries, in-product announcements, or feature walkthroughs would help teams discover and adopt new functionality more effectively.

We use Applitools primarily for Visual Regression Testing (VRT). It helps us automatically detect unintended UI changes across our applications, allowing us to identify visual defects early in the development cycle before they reach production.

**What do you like best about Applitools?**

Not much. Now that I'm seeing the question, I don't have many positive things to say about it.

I guess... I like that the filters view lets me see only things that need approval.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

Most of it.

It's slow. That's a major complaint, and a lot of things simply don't work right.

We had this issue where we needed to add ignore zones, and Applitools even helpfully helped us find those and ignore them, and it asked us to ignore them on the next PR, and the next, and the next. Seems to always be super buggy.

Some years ago, we got flagged for old npm packages, and we found that they were coming from the latest eyes-storybook. Not great.

It seems like we had a lot of fonts issues that took forever to figure out until this year (10 min for AI to solve it). Like every other PR or browser update at Applitools would make all the fonts render differently, and we couldn't figure it out. It ended up being some `document.fonts.ready` promise I needed to wait on, but it took 4 years to figure it out.

Getting any sort of support was a lot of "you guys figure it out and run tests and come back to me." Meaning either your employees don't have enough to debug with or they're making me do all the work when I'm busy with other things. I wanna be able to say "VRTs are having issues running correctly because every approval updates the global baseline".

It shouldn't take AI 10 min to fix something that we've had as a HUGE problem for 4 years. This is INSANE. It's a basic feature of any VRT system, and your guys either did or didn't have it, but we never could get that answer even with your rep. We're paying for Enterprise and a rep, and still couldn't solve it. SERIOUSLY? A basic feature like "only lock approvals to the current branch?". It should be standard for any team working with VRTs. If I made the VRTs images stored in the repo, we would've never had that possibility.

We were also told to get some GitHub integration, but when we moved to our private GitHub Enterprise server, security nix'd that, and you guys had no other solution. My experience has been absolutely horrible!

Applitools has been a huge waste of my time, and the thing we seem to talk about the most. "Do we need Applitools?" (a real question that's come up multiple times), "Applitools is broken again", "I can't merge because Applitools is throwing up random errors, and we can't figure them out" for 4 years! Unacceptable. If I moved companies, this would be the first thing I changed.

On top of that, your docs suck. There's no professional way to say it except I can never seem to find the info I need. I've had to go to your eyes-storybook source code multiple times. Even AI struggled to find anything in the docs. I _also_ had it look at your source code. I need to be able to figure out things asap. I can't sit there and fumble around with your tech all day just because it's a 3rd party tool.

The screenshots are super small too. We're taking them at 1024x768 I believe, and that might be part of it, but there's no easy way to auto-zoom them. You can't even tell what's different without really zooming in.

And that brings me to another thing, the controls are super confusing. I can't easily figure out what they do. I know "show before" and "show after". What about "show side-by-side"? What about "hide magenta color". It's not easy. Takes me some time to find it. As a user, I'd expect to find that out just by looking. You might think this is nitpicking, but I've had this product for a long time, and I never seem to be able to remember how to do those simple things.

This one in particular might be my own fault based on a configuration. Each run shows its title as only a Git hash "3d29204e7c1b0513036cefd5baba2e64520017a7". I think I did that because we were getting conflicts years ago, but even still, it would be nice to group them by branch or at least show the branch info somewhere in that card. We're giving it to you, so I know you have it.

It's just one big list, but the Git hash is all I see. It means I have go into our in-house CI runner, scroll until I find the Applitools link, then go to it from there. I can't just go into the Applitools UI and easily know which run is the right one. I know you have filter controls on that left sidebar, but I don't wanna use those. It should be clear from looking at the feed which run is which. Right now, that left sidebar is completely useless.

I think the UI also seems very old school. I don't know how to explain it, but the design seems very busy and early-mid-2000s, not like modern designs.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's supposed to solve the differences in our Storybook stories between PR changes. It does that somewhat with issues (as noted in other questions).

eyes-storybook is the one we use. One nice thing about it is it checks all our stories for us. We have something like 800 stories in the component library, so it's nice to be able to automate that.

There are a few points we'd like to address directly.

On baselines

Branch-scoped baselines are a supported capability in Eyes through the use of branchName, parentBranchName, and baselineBranchName, and approvals can be confined to a branch rather than promoted to a global baseline.

The fact that you raised this repeatedly over several years and never received that guidance is a failure on our part. This wasn't a missing product capability, it was a failure to provide the right answer. We are reviewing how that happened and what we need to improve to ensure it doesn't happen again.

It's also worth noting that our Customer Success organization has undergone significant changes over the past six months, with a much stronger focus on customer outcomes, proactive engagement, and technical enablement. You can read more about that transformation here:

On support

Being told to "go run some tests and come back to us" is not the level of support we strive to provide, particularly for an Enterprise customer. We are reviewing those interactions internally because that is not the experience we want any customer to have.

On the reliability issues

The concerns you raised around ignore regions not persisting across pull requests, performance, and the font rendering behavior you ultimately traced to document.fonts.ready are all valid. Rather than speculate, we'd like to reproduce these issues against your actual environment so we can understand the root causes and determine what improvements are needed.

On the dashboard experience

Your feedback around diff images requiring excessive zoom, controls that are difficult to discover, and a test feed organized only by commit hash without meaningful branch context is fair. We've shared your review directly with our Product team so they can evaluate these improvements.

On documentation

If you found yourself reading the eyes-storybook source code to answer your own questions, then our documentation did not do its job. We appreciate you calling that out, and we will use this feedback to improve the experience for future users.

The Ultra-Fast Grid is the thing I keep coming back to. Parallel cross-browser rendering means our VRT suite doesn't become the bottleneck in CI. Branch-based baseline inheritance has been a real quality-of-life win too; feature branches just work without needing manual baseline management or dealing with false failures on in-flight UI changes. The Eyes dashboard makes diff review genuinely fast and easy for other team members to learn with the thumbs up/down and you're done, no back-and-forth in code.

Onboarding docs could do a better job surfacing enterprise-specific config upfront. The API key setup and understanding how to structure multi-team account isolation (app naming conventions, branch baseline scoping) also took some trial and error to get right. I love Applitools for visual regression testing in our component library. It's great to know if an unrelated change visually affects a component we're working on. The AI-powered comparison engine locates those UI bugs which are very hard to overlook by manual checks or even by traditional automation. What really impresses me is the ease with which it can be integrated into the already existing test frameworks, and also, the dashboard being a clean and intuitive one, makes it very easy to review the differences. Sometimes the test execution will fail due to an element not being available, my suggestion is, cant we handle this error with the AI and it automatically handles the error and rectifies it without manual intervention i hope this is in place, but need some more fine-tuning for this feature.

I came across applitools recently and it stands out for me for its AI-powered testing, which makes it really effortless to identify any possible UI discrepancies and it also reduces false positives, making our QA process more efficient. The AI-powered maintenance features save us extensive time with the volume of tests we run. And I had to mention this that it is incredibly accurate, which is why I have come all the way here to write down what I feel about it.

I like everything about it but just the initial setup and integration was a bit complex, which I felt. Try reaching out to the customer support for any help, I found them really helpful personally. After getting started, the user flow is very easy to understand. The user journey is not at all complex and can fully utilize all its features.

I have been using applitools to solve the problems of maintaining high-quality UI testing with minimal effort as it is AI-powered. The shallow learning curve for initially implementing it. 

Typically QAs have less experience working with code and less time to learn. this can make starting a proof of concept or just integrating a plugin into an existinging framework prohibitively expensive in terms of time.

With Applitools we've found that its been easy to integrate with our automation framework. The majority of the work was very straightforward and required little more than than the read me that comes with the package. Where we got stuck the online documentation and helpful engineers helped us get back on track.

The way errors are returned in hooks can be troublesome when creating automated reports.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Applitools is our go-to tool for cross-browser and cross-device testing for our web platform. Without this tool, we'd have to use traditional cross-browser platforms that can be slow and unreliable. 

Furthermore, the visual regression aspect massively enhances our assertions some "it's visible" to is "it's visually perfect"

We setup Applitools using the Cypress SDK, and the best part about Applitools is getting confidence that if we introduce unintended changes, those are found right away.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

There have been a few times that we've seen an issue with snapshot quality (these were already fixed in a newer update of the SDK). The only other thing we disliked is there wasn't built in support for Azure DevOps Server on the pipelines, but this feature is now available and getting updates.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Applitools has many SDKs that make it easy to start creating snapshots and comparing those baselines against newer ones. This helps us avoid creating a problem with our user experience by finding any differences we weren't expecting, highlighting them, and giving us more detail about the issue. The tool is extremely good at noticing the differences that matter and allowing us to ignore differences based only on a pixel-by-pixel difference.

I found people keep using this tool the wrong way. This is a powerful collaboration tool for Engineers, designers and product people to understand how customers experience their applications and product.

Personally, I find the best way to leverage this tool is by using it as a conversation icebreaker to explore the various challenges different customers may encounter, particularly when using different browsers and mobile devices.

I absolutely love this tool! 

It allows me to manage the precision required for validation, and I'm also thrilled about its new self-healing capability for cloud runners. This feature takes the user experience to a whole new level, ensuring smooth operations and minimising disruptions.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

I find the branch and baseline functionality can be a bit confusing, especially for non-technical people in the organisation.

I do not have a solution and recommendation, but it might be a good idea to review again with the UX teams and get feedback from different customers if this is helping them or not.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Applitools is solving my cross-browser and cross-device visual validation requirements and some of the accessibility problems some tools lack to provide. It also reduces my automation execution and has help me with component validations early in the delivery cycle thanks to their implementation of tools such as storyBook, and their component visual validation capability.

**What do you like best about Applitools?**

Applitools is a very mature, widely comprehensive tool. It is very powerful and at the same time very easy to use for everyone via the GUI. So even QA engineers with less programming knowledge can easily work with it. The given functionalities are very well thought out and easy to use. In addition, there is an excellent, fast support. One has a dedicated contact person who responds immediately within a few hours. At the same time, they offer support for realizing your own projects based on Applitools.

**What do you dislike about Applitools?**

Applitools is quite an expensive tool in comparison, which of course comes with the power of the tool. It would be desirable to have a package that is structured differently for large companies with many required accesses, so that you do not have to pay per account. This makes it somewhat unattractive for a large company to roll out the full power of the tool across the entire company.

**What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Applitools we are able to build a reliable Visual Test Automation that helps us compare screens pixel by pixel. It is rare to find such sophisticated tools on the market and it helps us to keep the quality of our product high
