For a lot of free or outdated MacOS programs, MacOS X Mountain Lion is the highest system that you can upgrade an iMac or MacBook to in order for the software to be compatible. The interface is old compared to the current MacOS versions. The graphics, icons and preinstalled software are all dated. Recommendations to others considering Apple OS X Mountain Lion: ONLY use if necessary for older software that is not compatible with anything higher than OS X. I have a lot of clients who have older software that will only work and can be installed on macOS X Mountain Lion such as graphic designers and DJs. In order to install macOS X onto their devices, I have to use terminal to backdate the system date and time in order to trick the device into allowing the installation of old software. Plus, the software can no longer be downloaded from macOS download installer and must be installed from an external Flash Drive. The system felt that it was smoother and better RAM managment. The Battery life had also improved for me. I got an extra 30 minutes to an hour when using my computer. The size it takes up on the hard drive was improved, too therefore saving space for my laptop. And of course, it being free update makes it great, more features without havbing to pay more. As with any OS update like OSX has, it can break your software, and having a copy before an update will make sure that you can go back in case anything goes wrong. Being an OS update, it does play with system files, so make sure you have them backed up and restore the system. It can take a while to complete, so do it overnight. Previously I used to work with Windows where a restart is must every 2-3 days, but with mac I have no more to worry about restarts anymore. Memory management is perfect. One of my favorite things about Apple OS X Mountain Lion is the dictation feature. As someone who works in healthcare and is required to create several notes every day, dictating my notes and having them immediately transcribed is a godsend. Sometimes when I have multiple applications and/or windows open, I do notice that my computer's functionality as a whole performs slower than usual. At the same time, the new Safari makes it very easy for me to access my note-taking and caseload tracking online system. I have the site saved easily as a shortcut and am able to access it whenever and wherever. I love that it saves as a shortcut on my other devices automatically too! I really like this operating system because it works very well on low-developed apple products with a low ram and still the device is still very fluid. I don't like a single thing about apple where its system is very restricted where some parts are good, like an apple product it's very rare to have or get some kind of virus, but on the downside it's too closed to do activities such as downloading apps from outside the app store, which is quite different from android that already lets you do this. A dependable Mac Operating System from 2012 that introduced Malware blocking and iCloud services for backup and data sharing across both iOS and Mac OS. The OS, although great at the time (2012), is now very dated and does not have the applications or features that later versions of the OS include.
