We used this for our long term storage - it is awesome how one can very easily set up formulas that auto move items (such as versions of objects not necessarily needed in the short term, repeated site backups etc) to long term storage where they can be very easily retrieved if necessary at a very meager cost. That to us was the biggest benefit - we could always retrieve site backups from any point in time when required - and believe me, you can never be too careful or have too many backups!! Not only that - Glacier makes handling object versioning an absolute cinch if set up right. And it's very easy to set up even for non technically inclined folks.
