## About Amazon ElastiCache
Amazon ElastiCache is a fully managed service that makes it easy to deploy, operate, and scale an in-memory data store and cache in the cloud. Often working in conjunction with other AWS database and storage services, ElastiCache ensures modern applications meet real-time requirements for high data throughput and sub-milli second response times, while serving millions of simultaneous requests. Amazon ElastiCache supports two open-source in-memory engines: o Redis - a fast, open source, in-memory data store and cache. Amazon ElastiCache for Redis is a Redis-compatible in-memory service that delivers the ease-of-use and power of Redis along with the availability, reliability and performance suitable for the most demanding applications. ElastiCache for Redis is fully managed, scalable, and secure - making it an ideal candidate to power high-performance use cases such as Web, Mobile Apps, Gaming, Ad-Tech, and IoT. o Memcached - a widely adopted memory object caching system. Amazon ElastiCache for Memcached is protocol compliant with Memcached, so popular tools that you use today with existing Memcached environments will work seamlessly with the service. ElastiCache for Memcached is suitable for caching use cases where performance and concurrency is important.

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Amazon ElastiCache?**

AWS Redis Cache Gives us great performance for our open Source Moodle LMS.

**What do you dislike about Amazon ElastiCache?**

It is very expensive and difficult to afford in India.

**What problems is Amazon ElastiCache solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We couldn't run our LMS without a high-performance cache. We tried a lot with configuring the Redis cache on dedicated hosting on high-end servers but it couldn't deliver the services like AWS Redis Cache. At last, I came in contact with the AWS team and their Elasticache met our requirements of cache.

  ### 2. High speed cloudnative in-memory cache

**What do you like best about Amazon ElastiCache?**

* it's compatible with redis and memcached engine
* It supports resource wise access for application data
* Since it supports redis and memcached engine already, we don't have to do heavy refactoring in our code to move from self managed redis/memcached to EC, we can continue using popular opensource clients to connect with EC.

**What do you dislike about Amazon ElastiCache?**

* ElastiCache is little bit expensive when compared to other managed caching services, but it makes sense to use EC if all of our infrastructure is in AWS.

**What problems is Amazon ElastiCache solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* EC helped us in increasing the application response time by enabling us to quickly retrieve the data from the cache, without requiring heavy ops.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Amazon ElastiCache?**

Not much modification required to move our existing redis cluster onto the Amazon ElastiCache. What I love the most is Multi-AZ failsafe architecture available to set up our Redis cluster here. Also it is very fast and easy to manage through the AWS console.

**What do you dislike about Amazon ElastiCache?**

Not complaining, but it feels the pricing structure for the usage is pretty high.

**What problems is Amazon ElastiCache solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Initially we had our redis cluster set up on a single EC2 instance. Since it is a startup we couldn't afford a bigger instance at that time. So everyday during our peak times the instance used to fail due to overload. We had a trial run with moving the redis cluster to Amazon ElastiCache and use the multi-AZ failsafe architecture. Initially it was a 3 node failsafe architecture. Right out of the bat, it was a hit. We immediately moved our production cluster on to it and never got to worry about it any other day.

  ### 18. Fast, Reliable, Cheap

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zach A. | Sr. Software Engineer, Internet, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon ElastiCache?**

It's always available. We haven't had any downtime or management woes since launch! It's also very fast. It's been a big win using this instead of hosting our own Redis cluster.

**What do you dislike about Amazon ElastiCache?**

It's a big rigid when it comes to upgrades. Updating versions or hardware requires some manual orchestration. Setting up the cluster is also a bit unintuitive from a UI perspective, but that's solved by using Terraform anyway!

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon ElastiCache:**

- Make sure you choose the right hardware--memory optimized instances are your friend for these workloads
- Make sure you make use of replicas to distrubute reads (based on your workload)

**What problems is Amazon ElastiCache solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're using it as a persistent caching layer serving our compute-intensive pageloads.

  ### 19. Amazon ElastiCache

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon ElastiCache?**

Amazon ElastiCache is a fully managed in-memory data store and cache service by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The service improves the performance of web applications by retrieving information from managed in-memory caches, instead of relying entirely on slower disk-based databases. ElastiCache supports two open-source in-memory caching engines: Memcached and Redis (also called “ElastiCache for Redis”).

As a web service running in the computing cloud, Amazon ElastiCache is designed to simplify the setup, operation, and scaling of memcached and Redis deployments. Complex administration processes like patching software, backing up and restoring data sets and dynamically adding or removing capabilities are managed automatically. Scaling ElastiCache resources can be performed by a single API call.

**What do you dislike about Amazon ElastiCache?**

Redis on Elasticache does not directly support persistence (but it's do-able using the backup feature + or attaching a Redis Slave), so you run the risk of losing messages if the instance goes down.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon ElastiCache:**

It’s very useful

**What problems is Amazon ElastiCache solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Performance of web applications

  ### 20. Dramatically speed up frequent call to your api

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon ElastiCache?**

By using cache appropiately, we were able to increase speed and performance of our API by using the cache for our most frequently accessed calls instead of going to the DB

**What do you dislike about Amazon ElastiCache?**

diagnosing issues with the calls was not easy, maybe more training was required but it was not easy to figure out how to go about it

**What problems is Amazon ElastiCache solving and how is that benefiting you?**

one of our apis use it to speed up the GET calls to the api

  ### 21. Java clients for Elasticache

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon ElastiCache?**

Setting up is easy and great response times. Used Terraform to setup and Lettuce client to communicate with the resource.

**What do you dislike about Amazon ElastiCache?**

We were looking for a Client to use with Elasticache and were little dissapointed not being able to use Amazon product directly and going to another third party client. This inceases our product dependencies increasing risk.

**What problems is Amazon ElastiCache solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using to security tokens to validate and invalidate clients.

  ### 22. Elasticache for redis
