**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

It gives lot of flxibilty and ease to monitor servers on cloud as well as on-premises.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Better integration for third party tools like rabbit-mq queue monitoring with an agent.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Monitoring the latency, cpu utilization and other metrics with AWS CloudWatch

  ### 2. Experience with Amazon CloudWatch

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Wholesale | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

The best part of CloudWatch is the ability to set up and delete alarms that can communicate with Amazon's Lambda service to execute functions automatically. This is useful whenever you need to write something each time a certain level of usage is reached.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

With so many different metric options available, it can sometimes be difficult to get the exact type of metric you want without having to have a large number of metric options.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The commercial problem that most small businesses face when they are not in the cloud is their usage. The question of whether we are using our servers effectively is not always information that is easily available to see. With Amazon CloudWatch combined with elastic load balancing and auto-scaling on EC2 instances, this process of scaling up and down the number of EC2 instances becomes a breeze and an effective means of cloud computing.

  ### 3. Powerful AWS cloud monitoring service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eldho. K. S. | Information Management Consultant (Informatica/Microstrategy/SVN administration), Insurance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

With a simple interface to provide powerful actions in managing cloud resources. Best part is no installation is needed - it's easy as signing into cloud and selecting cloudwatch from services. Excellent in creating alarms and reviewing/visualizing current state of cloud resources.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

There is a bit of delay with the real time logs which can be confusing at times. Also, some services integration and management requires expert knowledge

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used amazon cloudwatch to monitor and manage resources in our AWS - mainly to set up rules to detect performance issues (high memory/CPU usage) and to scale up before the whole system starts to bleed, affecting the business.

  ### 4. International support for metrics

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mirko B. | Head of Engineering, Innovation and Incubation, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Love metrics and use them for many business items as well, but need utf support.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

We use metrics a lot and are adding dimentions based on entities we have in our system. Unfortunately metrics only support ascii dimensions.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking realtime metrics in our system, including business metrics.

  ### 5. Important monitoring service for your product

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Quan N. | Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Amazon CloudWatch provides monitoring for AWS cloud resources and the applications customers run on AWS.
+ It is usefull to get an overview of data.
+ Ease to integration with AWS.
+ CloudWatch is low cost and allows us to get enterprise level monitoring.
+ Captures all the important data for your EC2 and EBS instances. Thus you can retrieve the bill info.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

+ Many of AWS services can't be use with CloudWatch such as S3... I don't know why.
+ The UI design can be better.
+ Exporting alarm / alerting data is not available for further post-processing or analysis
+ CloudWatch does not give you any recommendations, so you have to know what you're doing.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

Adding more metrics so we can hook to more operational processes and information.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Cloudwatch to measure our usage in RDS and EC2 instances. It displays the current status of the suite and identify whats going on..

  ### 6. Great logging and metrics, but viewability needs work.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Spencer S. | Sr. DevOps Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Every AWS service easily connects to cloudwatch and drops in logs.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Searching across multiple instances of things (lambda jobs) is currently impossible, as far as I know.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Logging and metrics for different services. We've been able to catch problems and fix them before services go down.

  ### 7. Great but small feedback to enhance

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** shareef h. | Development Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

historical cloud watch stays there. and I can see old instances history as well

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

some metrics are empty and don't know why like for example if am not using t2 instance why the metric show cpu credit usage, this increases time I have to spend on documentation to understand or even call support to ask.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

Add vedio documentation is very great

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

optimizing rush hours to reduce resource and as result the bill.
I love slow log in RDS and backups

  ### 8. Room for improvement especially for c#

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

It is relatively easy to set up and get running with most AWS services.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

I don't care for the way it manages multiline console errors, not sure if there is a way to have those condensed to a single entry in cloud watch. This is generally an issue I see with c# errors in lambdas and ecs containers

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Right now mostly a way to track all issues within systems in a consistent way. It has helped diagnose everything from development to configuration issues

  ### 9. Great monitoring

**Reviewed by:** Fahad F. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Real time metric tracking with alerting. The load balancer level tracking is really good.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Hard to categorize some metrics because the lsit is so long, some kind of sectioning would be nice.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Monitoring on the load balancer level before and after waf rules being applied

  ### 10. Life Saver Amazon CloudWatch

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

its capabilities like to set high resolution alarms, visualize logs and metrics side by side, take automated actions, troubleshoot issues, and discover insights to optimize your applications, and ensure they are running smoothly.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

There is a lot for improvement required.
Checks for things like EC2 instances often have to be created and maintained individually (eg a CPU check needs to be set for each instance vs at the group/tag level)

Notifications are limited to email addresses, when a lot of us use Slack, Pagerduty, webhooks, or something other than email these days

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

use its capabilities like to set high resolution alarms, visualize logs and metrics side by side, take automated actions, troubleshoot issues, and discover insights to optimize your applications, and ensure they are running smoothly.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloud Watch helps my team with data and actionable insights to monitor our applications, understand and respond to system-wide performance changes, optimize resource utilization, and get a unified view of operational health.

  ### 11. cloudwatch is powerful monitoring tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

the ability to use cloudwatch alarms to trigger notifications and to trigger autoscaling activities. They come out of the box

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

cloudwatch doesn't have memory utilization out of the box or volume storage monitoring

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Ability to monitor our AWS resources (applications, servers, and api activities) in both development and production environment.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

AWS CloudWatch is proprietary monitoring solution and is not extensible by default to other software without considerable integration or writing of glue codes.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

If you're going to be using AWS platform for DevOps or hosted infrastructure solution and want to dynamically scale resources based on demand, Amazon CloudWatch helps you to monitor resources by setting metrics and triggers.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AWS CloudWatch has helped us save greatly on resources by provisioning based on capacity demands from monitoring resource metrics like cpu or network performance to name a few.

  ### 13. One stop shop for AWS Metrics

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Easy to customize based on your requirement. We integrated this with Pagerduty for alerting.

Valuable tool for DevOps and Developers alike to troubleshoot Cloud infrastructure run time. I love the dashboard which is created for beanstalk shows breakdown of TPS, healthy/unhealthy host along with other metrics.

This is a managed service so easy viewable through AWS console or CLI. For customized solution you use AWS SDK.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

The metrics are skewed up to 5 mins. So you can check metrics for last 5 mins and not up to the minute. It may take some time for new users to learn the nuances of this tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

If you are on AWS you will be using AWS Cloudwatch. We use this actively for metrics on SQS, Elastic Beanstalk, EC2 etc. Once your project is out running you can see how different metrics all tie up together. You can build a dashboard of all the metrics you are interested in. We also have created alarms custom to our application. You can cron (time based events) to trigger defined actions or lambda functions. Very useful to actively monitor your cloud infrastructure.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use this tool for alerting and constantly monitor our Cloud infrastructure.

  ### 14. Watch my EC2 stuff

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Easily set up and configurable to get cloudwatch running.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Making filters can be a bit tricky and may take a ton of trial and error to finally get the correct one.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

Veirfy what you want to send and what you want to alert off of. Just simply sending things to cloudwatch is not going to provide any business value.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Place to retain data to build alerts off of for performance and other monitoring tasks.

  ### 15. Its best tool for monitoring for cloud application.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring and management service built for developers, system operators, site reliability engineers (SRE), and IT managers.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Its can be used only for monitoring of your amazon resources.I rarely run into a situation where what I needed to setup was not immediately clear, and when I did AWS support was quick and helpful.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its premonitering tools for outage. It help us with reporting and the biggest problem it solves is that it helps us actually fix the performance issues as a results of being able to identify them in the first place.

  ### 16. Easy to set up for monitoring and alerting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

There is a wide range of system stats that you can monitor. The visualizations are intuitive, but not very granular.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

I can't monitor disk utilization out of the box. I need have a script run out of cron on the box, and have it post to cloudwatch.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

If you are using AWS, and you need monitoring and alerting, you should evaluate Cloudwatch first.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to keep my systems running and I'm alerted when there is an issue.

  ### 17. Great tool for monitoring with some caveats

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

CloudWatch is a great tool that enables out of the box monitoring for many services and allows you to speed up your development process.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Once you get to a certain scale, CloudWatch becomes very expensive.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CW enabled and still enables us to have great monitoring and dashboards, including triggers and alarms. Before we integrated it with third party providers, we didn't have a good solution for 24/7 NOC alerts.

  ### 18. Cloudwatch lack features and ease of use

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Mostly the vast metrics collections available for the hosts and all the managed services

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

First why are events within cloudwatch. That's a great feature to trigger periodically events but it does not seem the right place to put that.
Secondly, the dashboards are not simple to use and they lack features.
The log search is starting to get better with log insights.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Debugging applications, trailing and monitoring.

  ### 19. Not enough fine grained analytics/dashboards

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Its very easy to use and configure and just works out of the box.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

I would like it to be our complete monitoring solution including fine grained data, for example a dashboard that shows our access logs broken down by status, etc.. but i cannot do that.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Monitoring, but we are not going to continue, for most of our monitoring we will be using Prometheus

  ### 20. Great product

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 08, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

I can view all logs, keep track of sales volumes for each day, week, month, etc. Which allows me to see where we are struggling. I also loved being able to supply my own logs for data, memory usage, sales volume, etc. It's nice being able to implement these things, although I thought the software did a good enough job on its own. I just wish their customer service had been more efficient. If they fix that, then I'll be a customer again in the future.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

There were not enough options to support what we needed it for and customer service wasn't all that great either.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

It's great for everything it does, but their customer service really needs to improve. Once that happens, it'll be the best out there.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's allowing me to monitor all of our sales volumes. I realized it was excellent with keeping track of data usage as well through our company.

  ### 21. Average software

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

The CloudWatch interface provides current statistics that can be viewed in graph format. Users can set notifications to be sent when something being monitored surpasses a specified threshold. The app can also detect and shut down unused or underused EC2 instances.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Now you can monitor Ram, swap and disk usage via monitoring scripts. Also, you can send custom metrics to CloudWatch. Creating alarms and notification with events and much more.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Billing metric data is stored in the US East (N. Virginia) Region and reflects worldwide charges. This data includes the estimated charges for every service in AWS that you use, as well as the estimated overall total of your AWS charges.

It's clunky and often has very slow loading times and makes searching for difficult.

**Recommendations to others considering Amazon CloudWatch:**

Use cloudwatch if your need for logging is light or you just want one central place from which to pull logs from into 3rd party stuff. Cloudwatch itself can be difficult to use if your use case is large.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking logs and triggering events inside of the AWS environment.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Amazon CloudWatch?**

There are so many activities, events, and services that you can use CloudWatch to respond to.

**What do you dislike about Amazon CloudWatch?**

Because there are so many things pushing data to CloudWatch, it can be challenging to be sure you're responding to right events, and it's easy to create a signal-to-noise problem.

**What problems is Amazon CloudWatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Proactive alerting of potential application issues, informing internal customers of imminent cost threshold breaches.

  ### 26. Events and Monitoring
