"Feature-Rich Yet Challenging to Master"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

I find Altium Develop efficient once the libraries are complete, making the design process more fluid. Many of the features are quite helpful, particularly the circuit duplicator, which was invaluable when working on a design with 5 identical circuits. I could easily copy them in the schematic editor and use the PCB Layout Replication to achieve uniformity across the board. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

I find creating the libraries to be a long tedious process. While having a lot of freedom in the use of layers, it makes setting them up and getting them to be exactly the same for a layout difficult and tedious. The initial setup was a slow process of learning for me. With all the features and limited understanding of how it worked, it was hard to know how certain things operated. Some things that seem trivial after the fact, like the Objects for snapping, were not as customizable as in the previous software. Updating the PCB from the schematic or from the PCB to the schematic is tricky compared to Eagle, where both were unified so you didn't need to push them back and forth. "Effortless BOM Management and Cost-Effective Tool"
5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

I really like how Altium Develop makes managing the bill of materials easier, which can be the most challenging part sometimes. It's nice to be able to collaborate and share spaces using the online tools. The bill of materials feature is very easy to use. Another good feature is the revision control, which is really important for us. It's also great that I can add guests to the workspace, which is critical when we have external consultants. The product has become much more cost-effective than previous versions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

I know that there is a conflict in transitioning from the previous license to Altium Develop. We faced challenges with the workspace, like duplicate workspaces and trouble logging in. It took about an hour to figure out how to transition over on a coworker's laptop because we had to delete and reinstall the entire system. It was kind of a mess, but once you're in, you're good. My coworker found it hard because he was signed into two different apps, and there were challenges that needed solving with a simple refresh or reinstall of the software. "PCB Design with Altium"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

Lots of features. Most of these do in turn have a sharp learning curve, however once they are mastered it makes designing a board very streamlined. For example, when working with a schematic and creating a PCB, being able to highlight specific groups of components and then locate them on the PCB is huge timesaver and helps with board layout. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

The only issues I have ran into so far are crashes and the autosave function failing. At times, it will freeze up randomly even if there was no input into the program. Additionally, the autosave feature is not the greatest, as it doesn't always reconnect to the host server. I actually lost a small amount of work from yesterday due to this. Response from Alanna Jordan of Altium Develop

Hi Charlie! It's great to hear that Altium has helped streamline your development process and enabled multiboard design for your company. We understand the importance of a reliable autosave function and stability in the software. Your feedback will be shared with our development team to continue improving the overall user experience. Thank you for your input!

"Altium Develop Streamlines Agile Task Management and Cross-Team Coordination"
5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

I appreciate the task management capabilities in Altium Develop. Using structured task assignment within an agile framework creates a smoother, more predictable workflow for our firmware and hardware teams. It aligns our development cadence with the software team’s sprint planning, which improves cross‑functional coordination and helps ensure that all engineering disciplines move forward with shared priorities and clearer visibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

There was the usual learning curve that comes along with change. However, it was short and we were up and running like nothing changed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Cheap, Powerful, and Perfect for Low-Volume PCB Design, easy to share design with colleagues"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

Cheap and powerful, hit our needs when we do designs of only few PCBs a year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

It has more features as the Altium Standard Designer. But a very good internet connection is needed. When you do home office, maybe the internet connection is too slow and it takes a lot of time during the work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Alanna Jordan of Altium Develop

"Cloud Collaboration That Streamlines PCB Project Workflows"
4/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

It provides a collaborative environment for electronics design teams, making it easier to manage PCB projects, version control, design reviews, and engineering workflows. Its cloud-based collaboration and integration with the Altium ecosystem improve productivity and reduce design bottlenecks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

It has a bit of a learning curve for new users, and some advanced collaboration and management features could be easier to configure. Performance can also be occasionally slow when working on very large projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Decent Features but Lacks Key Improvements"
2.5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

There's nothing specific to Altium Develop that Designer doesn't already have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

The lack of a license management page in Altium Develop was irritating. The component template is restricted in the current package and should be available in the most basic plan. Updating symbols forces reordering of pins in the schematic symbol. The flex layer stack-up doesn't allow for both soldermask and coverlay, making it difficult to edit coverlay. Rather than automatically propagating, coverlay and board regions get deleted with minor changes to the layer stack-up. I can't reorder graphics on fabrication or assembly drawings, making it hard to add a confidential watermark. The git integration is abysmal, affecting back-up on a secondary server. The setup was irritating with buggy licensing and ambiguous information about whether Designer, Develop, and Develop were the same thing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless Team Collaboration Across Locations"
5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

I like being able to collaborate with a team of multiple people who are in different locations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

I’d prefer it if the cloud section included a few quick editing features, as that would make it more convenient to make small changes without switching elsewhere. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Exceptional PCB Layout, Needs Better Wire Harness Design"
4/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

I really like Altium Develop for its strong PCB layout toolkit. It supports challenging packages like BGA and is good for impedance matching and PCB trace length tuning. The setup of Altium Develop was very easy. I have experience designing PCBs with Altium in the past, and it’s a very good tool for that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

I wish Altium Develop's wire harness design was as strong as its PCB layout design, so I could use one software for everything. Some commands don't work properly, like the total thickness command not returning the actual value. The number of colors I can select in the PCB stackup is limited to four. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Alanna Jordan of Altium Develop

Hi Vazgen. Thank you for your positive feedback on Altium Develop's PCB layout toolkit. We understand your concerns about the wire harness design and the limitations you've encountered. We are committed to improving our software and will take your comments into account as we continue to enhance our solutions.

"Great Value for Small Businesses with an Improved Requirements Manager and BOM Portal"
5/5
What do you like best about Altium Develop?

I like the requirements manager and the updated BOM portal. The subscription fees are also a lot less and help us as a small business Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Altium Develop?

I have only one seat in the subscription and I am the only user. But sometimes Altium Develop logs me out of the seat and I am forced to spend time to log in again. There isn't a fix that I can find for this and it disrupts my workflow Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
