I qualify myself as an excellent developer, but that doesn't make me a good system manager. This is a talent I need to outsource. My cloud provider is my day-to-day "talent", and SimpleBackups" are my backup "talent". They're the specialists, they do one thing, but do it well, very well indeed. **What do you dislike about SimpleBackups?** Haven't found anything yet. Whenever these was an issue, I contacted their support and got a helpful reply within the day. **What problems is SimpleBackups solving and how is that benefiting you?** I create and manage software for Getty Images, the nr1 stock agency of the world. My product used to be a local PC/Mac app, but 2 years ago I changed it to a web app running in the cloud. My cloud provider makes database backups on daily basis, but at some level this is still a single-point-of-failure, since only 1 party is involved. The contents of the database is everything, if I lose it or have to go back to a month old backup, it's the end of my business. I tried a few available options, with varying success, and then found out about SimpleBackups. A few clicks later I had a recurring backup all setup, with database backups stored at a different cloud provider, located at the other side of the world. A remote backup, for sure. Fortunately, I have not had the need to actually restore a backup, but have carefully studied the procedure at SimpleBackups, and know I can do this quite easily if/when the need arises. Very happy with this service. It's one of those things, like insurances ... not fun paying for them and if all goes well, it almost seems like unnecessary, but if you ever need them ... you'll need them badly. To me, SimpleBackups equals peace of mind. So yes, very happy with my choice. ### 2. Using some Tier-1 cloud providers solutions (like RDS) are great because they can do backups easily. But, the trade off as vendor lock-in. It was easy to setup the and onboard the complenents in digitalocean **What do you dislike about SimpleBackups?** The biggest disadvantage is that the free plan only allows us to choose a single component, such as a droplet, snapshot, database, or disc, for backup. If you want to add additional tasks, you must purchase the premium plan, which is somewhat more expensive. For example, having a 10$ droplet and paying 29$ for backup does not make sense. If you have more articles, it works. **What problems is SimpleBackups solving and how is that benefiting you?** As i have mentioned it will easy to maintain the backup for your digitalcoean components like Droplets, snapshots,databases , volumes ect. Note: I mainly used for digitalocean not sure about othe cloud services ### 10. Teams in the system) and that works incredibly well. It means you can ring-fence your data and integrations between clients, projects, etc. **What do you dislike about SimpleBackups?** - I really can't think of anything bad about the system. The only feature I think would be cool would be the ability to use a YubiKey for MFA but that isn't a necessity. **What problems is SimpleBackups solving and how is that benefiting you?** - Effortless ways to backup Postgres and MySQL backups regularly and offsite. - Notifications when backups fail - Strong encryption of the backup files - Easy methods to access the server for backups without having to write bash scripts on the server itself ### 13. After playing around with a couple of other sites which was either too complicated or too expensive for me I found SimpleBackups and signed up for a test account. In a matter of minutes, all was up and running and my DBs was backuped securely to my Dropbox account. I was looking for a solution to have my DBs on my personal Dropbox account. Later I adapted to their own cloud space which also worked after only a couple of clicks. It simply works as promised, easy and reliable! Additional their support is exceptional and I got very fast help for doubts in their internal chat and via email as well. Today this is not as normal as it should be but they actually care for their clients. **What do you dislike about SimpleBackups?** Honestly, I can't tell you anything I disliked. Even their support was always outstanding when I had a doubt about my server config and the ssh connection to them. **Recommendations to others considering SimpleBackups:** If you look like me for an easy solution without headache then this has to be your choice! **What problems is SimpleBackups solving and how is that benefiting you?** I backup the DBs from my own clients.
