# Which self-serve programmatic display advertising tools work best for in-house teams new to DSPs?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Question for the programmatic reviewers and researchers here. I've been comparing self-service programmatic display advertising tools for in-house teams that are new to DSPs, and every one of them looks right on paper, which is exactly the problem. </p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">"Self-serve" and "easy to use" have become table stakes claims in the<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/display-advertising"> </a><a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/display-advertising">Display Advertising</a> category, so the label tells you almost nothing about whether beginners can actually run a campaign without an ops person on call.</p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">For a team taking media buying in-house for the first time, the shortlist half-writes itself:<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/stackadapt/reviews"> </a><a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/stackadapt/reviews"><strong>StackAdapt</strong></a>,<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/basis/reviews"> </a><a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/basis/reviews"><strong>Basis</strong></a>, and<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/simpli-fi/reviews"> </a><a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/simpli-fi/reviews"><strong>Simpli.fi</strong></a> come up most in G2 reviews, with two others worth a look:</p><ul>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/stackadapt/reviews"><strong>StackAdapt</strong></a>: the common default for first-time self-serve buyers; reviewers consistently rate its ease of use and support high, and the platform is genuinely built around self-service rather than offering it as an afterthought.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/basis/reviews"><strong>Basis</strong></a>: self-serve DSP plus workflow automation; more to learn up front, but the structure helps a new team avoid the messy-spreadsheet phase entirely.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/simpli-fi/reviews"><strong>Simpli.fi</strong></a>: approachable for teams whose campaigns are geo-driven; less relevant if your buying is national and audience-led.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/quantcast-platform/reviews"><strong>Quantcast Platform</strong></a>: leans on AI-driven optimization to do the tuning a new buyer would not know to do manually; that same automation means less granular control while you are learning.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/choozle/reviews"><strong>Choozle</strong></a>: a different shape entirely, a self-service layer that buys through other DSPs' infrastructure rather than being its own; simpler to start on, with the trade-off that you are one step removed from the underlying platform.</li>
</ul><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">For anyone who has actually onboarded a beginner team onto one of these: what broke first in the real world, the targeting setup, the reporting, or the budget pacing? That story would help more than another feature comparison.</p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true"></p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true"></p>

&lt;p&gt;For a beginner team, I’d expect budget pacing to cause problems first. Targeting and reporting can be learned with templates, but knowing how aggressively to spend, when to adjust, and when not to overreact usually takes more hands-on experience.&lt;/p&gt;
