# Which log monitoring software is most widely used by software engineers for real-time error tracking and production diagnostics?

In the<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/log-monitoring"> </a><a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/log-monitoring">log monitoring</a> category, three come up most: Sentry, Datadog, and Grafana Labs. The wider list:</p><ol>

<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/sentry/reviews"><strong>Sentry</strong></a>: developers lean on real-time error tracking and stack traces to catch production crashes fast.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/datadog/reviews"><strong>Datadog</strong></a>: reviewers correlate logs, metrics, and traces to pinpoint the cause across the stack.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/grafana-labs/reviews"><strong>Grafana Labs</strong></a>: engineers use it to correlate a spike with a slow query on one timeline.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/elastic-elasticsearch/reviews"><strong>Elasticsearch</strong></a>: paired with Kibana to detect error spikes and anomalies in near real time.</li>

&lt;p&gt;During an incident, the tool engineers open first probably says more than any adoption metric. Sentry has an advantage when the starting point is a specific application error; Datadog becomes more useful when nobody knows whether the problem is in the application, database, or infrastructure yet.&lt;/p&gt;
