# Which ecommerce platforms support multi-currency checkout and local payment methods for brands selling into multiple countries?

Multi-currency display is easy to find. Multi-currency pricing with local payment methods that actually convert well is a completely different thing.

What we've found matters most in practice, not in the demo:

True per-market pricing, not just display conversion of one base currency

Local payment methods natively supported, not just Stripe routing to card

Tax and VAT handled per market without manual rules

Checkout that feels local to the buyer, not just translated

Shopify Plus: Managing multiple currencies, languages, and expansion stores from one backend with custom pricing lists per market. Is the localised checkout experience genuinely strong or does it still feel like one checkout with a flag on it?

Shopify: Good multi-currency via Shopify Payments, but deeper localisation seems to require Plus or third-party apps. At what market count does that gap become a real problem?

BigCommerce: 20+ embedded payment providers and no transaction fees. Native multi-currency built into the platform. How does the local payment method coverage compare to Shopify Payments in practice?

Salesforce B2C Commerce: Comes up for enterprise brands where multi-market complexity justifies the implementation cost. Anyone using it specifically because the other platforms couldn't handle a particular market's payment requirements?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone already selling across five or more markets: what broke first, and which platform actually handled the checkout localisation without constant workarounds?

Currency and payment method are different problems, and the second one decides conversion. A checkout can price flawlessly in euros and still lose Dutch buyers if iDEAL isn't offered, because people abandon over how they pay more than what currency they see. In markets like the Netherlands, local methods carry the majority of online payments. So the comparison that matters is per-market payment method coverage, not how many currencies the platform lists.
