# Which Auto Shop Management tools provide SMS notifications and digital inspection features to reduce phone time with customers?

I'm looking specifically at which auto shop management tools cut down phone tag with customers through SMS updates and digital inspections, since that back and forth calling is one of the biggest time drains for a small shop's front desk. Inside Auto Shop Management, Tekmetric, Shop-Ware, and AutoRepair Cloud are the names most associated with these features.

Tekmetric: includes digital vehicle inspections with photos that get sent straight to the customer's phone alongside text updates, cutting down the need to call and explain findings verbally.

Shop-Ware: built around a workflow where technicians document findings digitally and customers approve work through text links rather than a phone call.

AutoRepair Cloud: offers customer text notifications tied to repair status, useful for shops wanting to keep customers informed without constant calls.

Alldata: stronger on diagnostic and repair data than customer communication specifically, typically paired with another tool for texting and inspections.

Bay-masteR: a smaller platform with basic customer communication tools, worth a look for very small shops on a budget.

For shops that switched to digital inspections and texting, how much did phone volume actually drop, and did customers push back on approving work through a text link instead of talking to someone?

I’d measure the reduction in outbound calls rather than just adoption of texting. Digital inspections seem most valuable when customers can see the photos, understand the recommended work, and approve or decline it from the same message. If advisors still have to call afterward to explain every inspection, the workflow has digitized the report without really reducing front-desk workload.
