# What's the best project and portfolio management software for a mid-market team that needs strong reporting and resource-planning capabilities without an enterprise price tag?

Hey G2 community, I've been digging into project and portfolio management software for a mid-market team, somewhere in the 51 to 1000 employee range, and the search keeps splitting in two directions. Most tools either lean toward simple task boards that don't handle resourcing and reporting, or they go straight to enterprise-grade PPM with an enterprise price tag and a steep setup. What actually holds up for a team our size that wants solid dashboards and resource visibility without the overkill?

Smartsheet: mid-market reviewers keep pointing to the dashboards and reports for tracking KPIs and sharing real-time updates, and several mention automations saving real time on manual work, though a few note that reporting setup takes some getting used to.

ClickUp: mid-market users highlight the built-in dashboards, custom fields, and capacity planning as strong for day-to-day project oversight, though a couple mention it's missing deeper finance and schedule management once things get complex.

Celoxis: this one comes up specifically for resource management in the mid-market segment, with reviewers describing how it centralized project planning, resource allocation, and progress tracking that used to live across spreadsheets and email, with a learning curve during setup being the main tradeoff.

For those running PPM at a mid-market company, how are you handling resource allocation across multiple projects without buying into an enterprise PPM suite? And has anyone found a tool where the reporting works well out of the box instead of needing heavy customization?

<p>From what I've heard, most mid-market teams accept some upfront customization as the tradeoff for avoiding enterprise pricing, tools like Smartsheet and Celoxis get real reporting depth, but it takes real setup time to get there rather than working well right out of the box.</p>
