# What's the best fleet tracking platform for dispatchers managing real-time vehicle and trailer tracking?

I've been looking into fleet tracking platforms specifically built for dispatchers managing real-time vehicle and trailer tracking, since that's a much narrower need than general fleet visibility. Most fleet software treats trailers as a secondary asset tacked onto vehicle tracking, which doesn't hold up once you're actually running dispatch off the same screen all day.

A few platforms build for that dispatch-specific view rather than treating it as an add-on:

Samsara: dispatchers get real-time GPS visibility into driver status, which eliminates manual check-in calls. Live location data paired with traffic routing gives customers accurate arrival estimates without guesswork, and fleet-wide coverage extends to reefer trailers alongside tractors and straight trucks.

Motive: fleet visibility is centralized enough that a manager can see who's active, who's having issues, and who needs coaching from one view. Video retrieval usually takes seconds when a dispatcher needs context on a specific trip.

Geotab: an interactive map shows the whole fleet moving in real time, including speed, position, and mechanical status. This makes fuel usage and vehicle status easy to track without switching between screens.

Azuga Fleet: built around locating and routing vehicles day to day. GPS tracking is indispensable for teams spread across a large area who need to make on-the-fly schedule adjustments.

For dispatchers running any of these, does the trailer tracking actually feel as real-time as the vehicle side, or is there a lag between the two? And how much of the schedule adjusting still happens by phone versus inside the platform itself?

I’d want to know whether trailer location updates stay accurate enough for dispatch decisions in the moment. If trailers refresh more slowly than vehicles, teams may still fall back to phone calls whenever equipment gets swapped or repositioned.
