# What's the best EHR for behavioral health practices juggling treatment plans and insurance billing?

I'm putting together a roundup on EHR Software for smaller practices, and I keep running into the same complaint buried in reviews: too many features, too much training before anyone can actually use the thing day to day. For a solo practitioner or a five person clinic, that ramp up time matters just as much as the feature list. I went digging through recent reviews from small business users to see which platforms people actually got running fast, without a dedicated IT person walking them through it.

Carepatron: small practice reviewers repeatedly call the initial setup straightforward, describing an interface that avoids the "advanced degree" feeling other platforms give off. Best for solo practitioners who want to be seeing clients within days, not weeks.

Practice Better: reviewers point to the built in billing, scheduling, and client portal as easy to pick up, though a couple mention the number of features can feel like a lot at first. Best for wellness practices that want everything under one roof without extra admin hires.

Pabau Practice Management: small clinics do mention a real learning curve in the first week or two, but nearly every review credits Pabau's onboarding team with getting them past it quickly. Best for clinics willing to trade a short ramp up for deeper automation later on.

TherapyNotes: several small practice users specifically call out how easy the initial setup was, especially when onboarding new therapists into an existing practice. Best for behavioral health practices that need billing and scheduling working on day one.

For anyone who's actually switched platforms recently, how long did it realistically take before your team felt comfortable? And did the vendor's onboarding support make a real difference, or did you end up figuring most of it out yourselves?

For behavioral health, I’d care less about how quickly the whole platform feels familiar and more about how fast therapists can complete the workflows they repeat every day. I’d test creating a treatment plan, documenting a session, submitting an insurance claim, and handling a rejection. If those workflows are intuitive without constant support, the onboarding has done its job.
