# What PR analytics tools track when competitors are getting press coverage so your team knows when to push harder or when to sit tight?

Question for the PR analytics software reviewers and researchers as this one's less about the tracking and more about the judgment call. Which PR analytics tools help you track when a competitor gets press coverage so you can decide whether to pitch your story harder or sit tight until the noise dies down?

The four names in the PR analytics category that come up most for competitor tracking are Meltwater, Agility PR Solutions, Muck Rack, and Notified.

Does that layer actually tell you when a spike matters, or does it stay a volume chart?

For those who know this tool: does it stay self-served, or you end up leaning on the managed side?

Its trend reports calculate share of voice automatically, and you see which journalists wrote the competitor's coverage. Does the auto-SOV hold up when competitor names are ambiguous?

Is the benchmarking deep enough to skip a dedicated analytics tool?

I’d separate competitor monitoring into two jobs: measuring who is winning attention, and understanding whether that attention creates an opening or makes the moment too crowded.
