# What is the best tool for tracking local search rankings?

We have a family-owned local business. and staying on top of SEO feels a bit overwhelming. Figured I’d throw it out here to see what everyone else is using for local SEO. Looking mainly for tools that are good at tracking local keyword rankings, visibility, and maybe reputation management on the side. Here’s the shortlist I’ve gathered based on G2 scores and what reviewers mention:

Semrush: feels like the all-in-one marketing suite. Super powerful for local keyword tracking, plus competitive insights are next level.

Birdeye: more reputation-focused, but people say it does a great job keeping track of local reviews and boosting visibility.

SOCi: seems built for multi-location brands; folks love the ease of monitoring tons of locations at once.

Right Choice: lighter-weight, but reviewers like its clean interface and simple tracking features.

SE Ranking: solid budget-friendly pick; does local rank tracking without overcomplicating things.

Curious what others are using. Is Semrush overkill if I just want rankings? Or is it worth it for the extras? Has anyone here tried SOCi for multi-location businesses? Which tool helps you feel confident your local SEO is on point without wasting time or money?

Would love to hear your experiences! What’s working best for you?

From my experience, SOCi really stands out if you’re managing multiple locations, that’s where it starts to make a lot of sense. But if it’s just a single location, it felt a bit like overkill for what we needed.

One thing to watch out for is keyword limits. Some tools look affordable until you start tracking multiple service areas, zip codes, or nearby cities.

If local rankings are the main thing you care about, Semrush might be more than you need. It is strong, but for a family-owned business I think a simpler tool can make more sense if you want something easier to manage and more budget-friendly.

What usually matters more is getting reliable local rank tracking without adding too much complexity. Reputation features can be helpful too, but only if you are actually going to use them regularly. Otherwise, it can feel like you are paying for a bigger platform than you really need.

Also, for those of you already using these tools, what’s the one thing you’d say to watch out for?

Is it hidden costs (like needing add-ons for more keywords), accuracy of local rank tracking, or just paying for features you never end up using? Curious what’s been the biggest surprise (good or bad) for you when it comes to local SEO tools.
