# What are the top-rated intellectual property management platforms for docket control and deadline tracking across a large portfolio?

Once a portfolio gets large, that makes the deadline engine matter far more than the interface.

FoundationIP (4.0, 105+ reviews). Known for calculating deadlines from each country's own law rather than one global rule set. Firms that begin with US-only docketing commonly move foreign matters onto it later. It is a rules-heavy system, so unusual country rules tend to need a support conversation.

PATTSY WAVE (4.0, 60+ reviews). Known for docketing incoming US filings automatically and for its links into international patent and trademark databases. The automation runs further on the trademark side than the patent side, so some patent work stays hands-on.

IPfolio (4.6, 30+ reviews). Known among corporate IP teams for holding patent annuities and trademark renewals in one system and reconciling records against the USPTO, with any mismatch listed for review. That reconciliation is built around US records, so foreign data still gets a manual pass.

Alt Legal (4.8, 20+ reviews). Known for updating USPTO and Canadian trademark deadlines on its own and emailing a daily list of what is due. It grew out of US trademark practice, so global portfolios lean on other sources for international data.

I’d add exception handling to the evaluation. Automatic deadline calculation is valuable, but large portfolios inevitably have unusual prosecution events or local-country rules that don’t fit the standard workflow. For FoundationIP, PATTSY WAVE, IPfolio, or Alt Legal users, how easy is it to override a calculated deadline while preserving an audit trail showing who changed it and why?
