Comparing tools in the online proofing category specifically on how well they handle catching what actually changed between versions.

PageProof reviewers point to its automatic audit history and Smart Compare feature as the reason feedback stays clear and nothing gets lost between email threads and printouts. One reviewer specifically called out how it makes feedback tracking easy, so different versions never get confused.

Ziflow has a Compare Mode that lets reviewers place files side by side or overlay them, and one reviewer described using it to confirm a price and disclaimer change went through correctly across thirty campaign assets without overlooking an unrelated edit elsewhere.

Gain keeps a time stamped audit trail of every approval decision across content types, with reviewers citing that clients can approve directly without creating an account, which cuts down the back and forth that usually muddies which version was actually approved.

Version comparison would be one of the features I’d test with a deliberately planted error. I’d change the requested element between versions but also introduce an unrelated change elsewhere in the asset, then see whether the tool makes both obvious. That would tell me whether comparison genuinely reduces approval risk or simply makes reviewing revisions more convenient.
