# Meltwater vs Cision vs Muck Rack for a boutique PR agency: which gives better media contact data without enterprise pricing?

This comparison shows up constantly for small agencies that have outgrown their basic tools but don't want to pay for capabilities they'll never use.

From reviews in the PR CRM software category and head-to-head observations:

Muck Rack: Consistently described as the leader for contact data accuracy. Reviewers who switched from other platforms describe it as simply better at keeping journalist profiles up to date. The trade-off is that it's the most expensive of the three for smaller teams, and its pricing structure doesn't scale as well at the individual-user level.

CisionOne: The largest raw database of the three, and reviewers in niche sectors describe finding contacts that other tools miss. The pricing tends to be enterprise-oriented, but agency reviewers say they negotiate package pricing that works for smaller operations. Setup is described as relatively smooth for teams migrating from the legacy Cision platform.

Agility PR Solutions: Comes up as a viable alternative for agencies that find Muck Rack too expensive and CisionOne too large in scope. Reviewers who switched from Cision describe Agility as more intuitive and specifically less likely to return irrelevant coverage, which saves cleanup time. Pricing is more competitive at the small agency level.

Propel: Worth including for boutique agencies where pitch tracking and CRM functionality matter as much as database size. Reviewers describe it as designed specifically for PR teams rather than adapted from a broader marketing intelligence tool, which changes the day-to-day experience.

For boutique agencies that made this switch, what actually tipped the decision: the contact data quality, the pricing, the features one platform had that the others didn't?

These three look similar on paper, but they each started life as a different product. Meltwater began as a monitoring tool. Cision grew out of press release distribution. Muck Rack was built around its journalist database from day one. Each is still best at the thing it started as. So instead of asking which is best overall, ask which of those three jobs your team does every day. If you pick against your daily work, you pay for a great feature you rarely open and live inside a mediocre one.
