Question on: Apple OS X Yosemite
Can I upgrade from OS Yosemite?
Can I upgrade from OS Yosemite?
Yes, you can upgrade from Apple OS X Yosemite to a newer version of macOS. The latest version of macOS as of my knowledge cutoff date (September 2021) is macOS Monterey. However, there may be newer versions available at the current time.
Depending on your Macintosh's hardware, you may or may not be able to upgrade from Yosemite to a more recent version of macOS. The following macOS versions are compatible with various Mac models:
macOS Monterey: 2015 and later MacBook, 2016 and later MacBook Master, 2017 and later iMac, 2020 and later iMac Expert, 2018 and later Macintosh Smaller than Usual, and 2019 and later Macintosh Ace
For macOS, Big Sur: MacBook Air beginning in 2013, MacBook Pro beginning in 2013, iMac beginning in 2014, iMac Pro beginning in 2017, Mac mini beginning in 2014, and Mac Pro beginning in 2013.
Catalina for macOS: MacBook Air from 2012 ahead, MacBook Ace from 2012 forward, iMac from 2012 ahead, iMac Expert from 2017 forward, Macintosh Little from 2012 forward, and Macintosh Star from 2013 forward.
Mojave for OS X: MacBook Air from 2012 and later, MacBook Star from 2012 and later, iMac from 2012 and later, iMac Genius from 2017 and later, Macintosh from 2012 and later, and Macintosh Expert from 2013 and later.
High Sierra for macOS: MacBook Air from 2010 onward, MacBook Expert from 2010 onward, iMac from 2010 onward, iMac Star from 2017 onward, Macintosh from 2010 onward, and Macintosh Master from 2010 onward.
Therefore, if your Mac is compatible with macOS Catalina, macOS Mojave, macOS High Sierra, or macOS Big Sur, you can upgrade directly from OS Yosemite to one of these versions. However, you must first upgrade to macOS Monterey from one of the intermediate versions (such as macOS High Sierra, macOS Catalina, or macOS Big Sur) if your Mac is compatible with it.
