[What hybrid cloud storage platforms are best for a dev team that needs fast backup and disaster recovery so they can recover quickly if something goes wrong in production?](/discussions/what-hybrid-cloud-storage-platforms-are-best-for-a-dev-team-that-needs-fast-backup-and-disaster-recovery-so-they-can-recover-quickly-if-something-goes-wrong-in-production)

Hey G2 software reviewers, researchers, and anyone who has lived through a bad production day. Something breaks, and the only question that matters is how fast you get your data back. I'm looking at hybrid cloud storage platforms for exactly that: fast backup and disaster recovery for a dev team. From the[](https://www.g2.com/categories/hybrid-cloud-storage-solutions)[hybrid cloud storage solutions](https://www.g2.com/categories/hybrid-cloud-storage-solutions) list, three names keep coming up:

- [**Nasuni**](https://www.g2.com/products/nasuni/reviews) saves a version of every file as it changes, so recovery means pointing back to a clean moment and moving on. Reviewers rate it near the top of this category for business continuity. It's built for file data though, not databases.
- [**NetApp ONTAP**](https://www.g2.com/products/netapp-ontap-data-management-software/reviews) takes constant point-in-time copies and keeps a synced replica somewhere else, so restores are quick. The trade-off is that it takes real expertise to run.
- [**AWS Storage Gateway**](https://www.g2.com/products/aws-storage-gateway/reviews) continuously backs up your on-prem data into AWS, and in a true disaster you can bring things back up in the cloud itself. Reviewer satisfaction is more mixed here, and recovery speed depends on how well you've set up the AWS side.

For anyone who has actually had to recover, not just test it: how long did it really take, and did the tool keep its promise?

From G2 reviews, Nasuni keeps its recovery promise most consistently in practice. G2 reviewers who have recovered from actual incidents (not just tests) describe pointing back to a clean version and restoring in minutes for file data, with the caveat that anything database-heavy needs a separate solution. AWS Storage Gateway is where the gap between tested and real recovery shows up most, with reviewers noting that actual recovery time depends heavily on how the AWS side was configured beforehand, making it reliable for teams that have rehearsed it.

[Which hybrid cloud storage providers give the most seamless integration with an existing on-prem SAN so a company can extend storage capacity to the cloud without replacing its current infrastructure?](/discussions/which-hybrid-cloud-storage-providers-give-the-most-seamless-integration-with-an-existing-on-prem-san-so-a-company-can-extend-storage-capacity-to-the-cloud-without-replacing-its-current-infrastructure)

For the cloud storage infrastructure reviewers on G2 who have worked on bolting cloud capacity onto an existing SAN: which hybrid cloud storage providers give the most seamless integration with an existing on-prem SAN so a company can extend storage capacity to the cloud without replacing its current infrastructure?

I want to start a discussion on this, because nobody wants to rip out working infrastructure just to get more headroom. I've been reading through the[](https://www.g2.com/categories/hybrid-cloud-storage-solutions)[hybrid cloud storage solutions](https://www.g2.com/categories/hybrid-cloud-storage-solutions) category and three routes stand out, each with a different answer:

- [**AWS Storage Gateway**](https://www.g2.com/products/aws-storage-gateway/reviews) is the vendor-neutral route: a virtual appliance that sits beside your SAN, presents iSCSI volumes to your servers, keeps hot data cached locally, and pushes the rest to S3. My question: how did cache sizing hold up once production traffic hit it?
- [**NetApp ONTAP**](https://www.g2.com/products/netapp-ontap-data-management-software/reviews) is the route if your existing arrays are already NetApp: tiering cold data to cloud object storage is built into the array itself, no extra box. For those running it: how transparent is the recall, really, when someone suddenly needs data that's been tiered away?
- [**CTERA**](https://www.g2.com/products/ctera/reviews) works at the file level rather than block, so it's less a SAN extension and more a way to move your file shares to a cached edge appliance backed by cloud object storage. If that's the part of your estate that's actually full: did it let you retire file servers, or just add another layer?

One honest flag: **Azure StorSimple** still appears in this category's data, but Microsoft retired it at the end of 2022, so I wouldn't start there.

Which route did I get wrong, and what's missing that should be on this list?

From G2 reviews, NetApp ONTAP gives the most seamless integration when the existing SAN is already NetApp. G2 reviewers describe cold data tiering as genuinely transparent in most cases, with recalls being the weak point when large volumes of tiered data get requested simultaneously, causing noticeable latency. The missing name on this list is Pure Storage with Cloud Block Store, which reviewers running non-NetApp SANs cite as the closest equivalent for extending block storage capacity to the cloud without replacing existing arrays.
